H E A LT H Y K I D S A N D FA M I L I E S F IT FAM I LY C H A LL E NG E San Antonio Sports Fit Family Challenge presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas encourages families to learn about health IMPROVED HEALTHY HABITS and fitness, eat right and stay active. Since the program’s inception in When asked, “How many times a day do you...?” 2010, San Antonio Sports has been providing families the opportunity to bond through the shared goal of getting fit over the summer. There are free, weekly fitness events at eight locations throughout the city that include Zumba® for adults and teens, and fitness classes for children four to 12 years of age. In 2019, Fit Family Challenge hosted 99 events throughout the 12-week program, resulting in a weekly participation engagement of more than 5,500, as well as three big events attracting 9,457 participants. 104 Due to COVID-19 in 2020, San Antonio Sports launched Fit Family Fitness classes Challenge Home Edition – a virtual fitness class program to keep families (57 in-person, 47 virtual) IMPROVED KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTH NUMBERS active while staying safe at home. SW I M FOR LIFE San Antonio Sports’ VIVA SWIM For Life connects children and their families to swim lessons taught by qualified instructors at public and private pools. This community-wide initiative is led by San Antonio Sports in conjunction with City of San Antonio Parks & Recreation and is supported by Ancira, University Health and a collaboration of nonprofit organizations, pool facilities, sponsors and media partners. E V E N T S T H AT I M PAC T O U R CO M M U N I T Y C OR PO RA T E C U P Corporate Cup has grown into an event that attracts 90+ companies and over 8,000 participants competing in 15 events and a Charity Challenge which benefits six local charities. Due to COVID-19 protocols and restrictions in 2021, we provided a hybrid event engaging, more than 1,400 people representing 36 companies participated in 17 events during the San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup presented by Ortho Now Injury Clinic. SAN ANTONIO SPORTS It was a month-long journey, with numerous events at multiple locations CORpORATE CUP2021 including Chicken ‘n’ Pickle and Top Golf, with new twists and challenges. Three virtual events lasted throughout the entire Corporate Cup timeframe, and 14 in-person events were hosted on several dates and CELEBRATING 10 YEARS locations. Many of the events took place during two “Field Days” where teams got to partake in familiar Corporate Cup festivities, including team tailgating, and competitions such as the 4x100 meter relay. In addition to joining forces with colleagues in a fun, active and football-tailgating-kind-of-way, the San Antonio Sports Corporate Cup incorporates a Charity Challenge into the competition each year. We’re 36 proud of all the teams whose donations made a real difference to our Teams registered charity partners. CHARITY CHALLENGE RESULTS 1,400 We look forward to returning to pre-pandemic numbers in 2022. Companies donated to six charities to earn points before the competition. These donations made a real difference to the San Antonio Food Bank, Haven for Hope, South Texas Blood and Tissue Center, University Health Blood Donor Services, Participants Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio and San Antonio Sports’ free community programs. E V E N T S T H AT I M PAC T O U R CO M M U N I T Y A L L -S T A R GA M E For 43 years, the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game presented by H-E-B has served as a celebration of successful high school football careers. It provides an opportunity for area players ANTONIO looking for an additional chance to impress recruiters and earn college SAN SPORTS scholarships. The 2021 game was played on January 30 at North East ISD Heroes Stadium and featured 113 players from 60 high schools in Bexar, Comal, Kendall, Guadalupe, Wilson, Atascosa and Medina counties. Team Gold triumphed 44-31 over Team Black with a convincing win, scoring 44 straight points after trailing 17-0 in the first quarter. Jordan Battles from Holy Cross High School was the Whataburger Impact Player of the Game, throwing four touchdown passes and leading his team to victory. E V E N T S T H AT I M PAC T O U R CO M M U N I T Y A LPHA WARRIO R F IEST A FITN ESS CH ALL E N G E Thirty-four high school teams of eight students competed in three divisions (female, male, and co-ed) challenging themselves at the Alpha Warrior Proving Grounds. Teams worked together to compete on the state-of-the-art obstacle course and in four Battleground Fitness Challenges: Alcatraz Obstacle, Pull-Up Challenge, 360 Mountain Climb Challenge, and the U.S. Army Push-Up Challenge. Each team was led by a member of the U.S. Army who served as their Military Captain and coach throughout the month leading up to the event which attracted 272 participants. Twenty teams made it through the obstacle course in under 20 minutes and the champion of each division was awarded a $500 grant for their school and athletic department. San Antonio Sports is bringing fitness to Fiesta when we host Fiesta FitFest, a multi-sport event taking place April 8-10, 2022.
