2021 Canada Post Scholarship Program Application and Process 1 Step 1: Review scholarship program Before you begin your application, check that you meet the criteria and are eligible for a Canada Post scholarship. 2 Step 2: Collect application information Before you complete your final application, review the application questions and compile/type your information using separate pages if required. Complete, brief and accurate information will help us promptly evaluate your request. 3 Step 3: Complete the application While you must submit typed information on the application, note that information in some of the boxes is limited to 220 characters (about 40 words); therefore, save information that will not fit in the application space on separate sheets; be sure to include these sheets when submitting your final application. Section 2 Provide only three entries, as a maximum of three entries will be scored. Section 4 Provide only six entries, as a maximum of six entries will be scored. Review Part C Checklist To ensure your submission is not disqualified, your application package must include the following: • signed and initialed (in all four places) both a hard copy and e-copy of the 2021 Scholarship Program Application • final official mark transcripts (with seal or proof of issue by province. In Saskatchewan, with proof of issue by Saskatchewan Learning; in Alberta, with proof of issue by Alberta Education; in Quebec with seal issued by CEGEP or the education institution). Interim marks should be submitted with digital application if final marks are not available right away. Please see ‘note’ below for additional information; • copy of your birth certificate, guardianship or statutory declaration; • school and community letters of reference; letters must be signed by a teacher or person from the association and include pertinent information about the student’s scholastic ability, personal character with specific details about the student’s activities and experience that demonstrate scholastic or community leadership, contribution and achievements. Letters must also contain contact information for each reference. Applications received without signed letters of reference will not be considered; • copies (scans/pictures) of recognition awards and certificates received; • proof of registration/an accepted offer of admission from an accredited Canadian College or University. Note: If original final official transcripts are not available by June 27, 2021, applicants must send a copy of their interim marks along with their application. Then contact the school board or province to discuss options to promptly obtain your original final official transcripts with seal or issued by province (e.g. in Saskatchewan: Saskatchewan Learning, in Alberta: Alberta Education, in Quebec: CEGEP or the education institution); Original final official transcripts (with seal or issued by province) must be provided to your regional scholarship coordinator on or by August 13, 2021 otherwise, the application will be disqualified. 45-066-191E (21-03)
2021 Canada Post Scholarship Program Application and Process 4 Step 4: Application Submission: Digital application - application package consisting of the completed application form and all supporting documents (see part c checklist below or step 3 above) must be emailed to the National Scholarship Coordinator at Scholarships@canadapost.postescanada.ca on or before June 27, 2021. Applications received after this date will not be considered. • Application package files should be gathered into a single zipped/compressed file (see job aid on Intrapost for how to create a zipped/compressed file) and sent in a single email; • Email subject line should contain the applicants full name and city/province of residence (not school location) – for example: Lindsay Turner – Calgary AB • All photos and/or scanned images must be legible – if images are not clear, the application will be disqualified Physical application – in addition to the above digital application submission, all applicants are required to mail 1 (one) copy of the following to 4567Dixie Road, Mississauga ON L4W 1S2 c/o Scholarship Program: • The application (form only – no supporting documents) with original signatures/initials. If applicable, an original copy of the guardianship form or statutory declaration will also be required. • Original final official transcripts by June 27, 2021. If official transcripts are unavailable by this date, interim marks will be required with the digital application and original final transcripts must then be mailed to your Regional Coordinator no later than August 13, 2021. Scholarship Program 2021 The electronic version of this application form is available through Intrapost, home access (http://mysite.canadapost.ca) or by contacting the scholarship regional coordinator nearest you; see regional coordinator list on website. The 2021 version of the application form must be used to apply for a scholarship in the year 2021. If additional information must be part of this package, it must be attached – the application form may not be altered. The program awards college and university scholarships to children of regular full and part-time employees (director level and above are not eligible). Scholarships valued at $1,000 for college and $2,000 for university are awarded annually to up to 29 students who are entering, for the first time, their first year of education in the year in which they are applying. Recipients may have their scholarships renewed up to two times only, to cover a total of three consecutive years of full-time study. Eligibility criteria Dependent children, including adopted children, step children, and wards in legal guardianship of permanent active employees of Canada Post are eligible. A copy of a birth certificate is required if the candidate is the biological child of the employee. If appropriate official documents for guardianship of the candidate are unavailable, the legal guardian will complete a statutory declaration form, which can be obtained from the scholarship coordinator of your region and must be attached to this application. The college diploma program must be of a minimum two-year duration. Applicants who have previously received a Canada Post scholarship are not eligible. Qualifications of applicants Applicants must not have taken any post-secondary courses prior to applying for this scholarship, with the exception of CEGEP courses (in the province of Quebec), if this application is for university studies. Applicants must have completed the requirements for admission into first year of a full-time undergraduate degree program or college diploma program at a recognized educational institution. Applicants must have obtained an average of 70% (or equivalent) on the best five academic courses (see list of academic courses below) in the final year of secondary school or CEGEP (pre-university education). If applicants interrupt their schooling, the maximum period permitted between the completion of secondary school or CEGEP (pre-university education) and the commencement of an undergraduate university degree program or college diploma program is one year. During this period, students must NOT have taken post-secondary courses, with the exception of CEGEP courses. Eligible institutions These scholarships are applicable to all Canadian educational institutions or their affiliates that have provincial degree-granting powers and Canadian colleges or CEGEPs. Students pursuing a full-time program in a CEGEP or private college in the vocational or technical stream (CEGEP I, II, III) leading to a diploma or certificate will be eligible for application to the program. Deaf and hard of hearing students are eligible to apply at an accredited North American institute for the deaf, such as Gallaudet University. Academic courses – grade 12 or CEGEP Language arts, mathematics, pure mathematics, applied mathematics, science, biology, chemistry, physics, social studies, geography, history, literature, accounting, computer graphics, law, psychology, fine arts, French, English or any one language. Selection of scholarship recipients Each region will have its own selection committee, comprising of a senior representative of the Regional Human Resources team and a Heritage Club member. The evaluation will be based on scholastic ability, character and leadership qualities at school and in the community. Decisions of the committee are final and without appeal. Note: Letters signed by family, friends or neighbors will not be considered, unless they are doing so as a representative of the school or organization that is referring the applicant. It is collected under the authority of sections 12 and 5(2)(d) of the Canada Post Corporation Act and is protected by the Privacy Act. The collection is mandatory and refusal to provide information may result in your application being disqualified.
