2020 SCTP & SASP NATIONAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS DIRECTOR’S LETTER From your National Executive Director: To all the athletes, parents, coaches, state advisors, and supporters that have traveled near and far, and to those all across the country participating virtually; Welcome to the 2020 SSSF National Championships! The SSSF staff, Board of Directors, and everyone involved in the 2020 SSSF National Championships are so glad to see so many teams returning to the Cardinal Center this year. Although this season’s circumstances are less than ideal, we do appreciate the silver lining of teams participating at their home ranges who normally would not be able to make the trip to Nationals in Ohio. The National Championships are a tradition for many families not only to compete against the best in the nation, but also to share the sport and spend time together as a summer trip. Though this year will certainly be different, we are happy to put on a very healthy National Championship with nearly 2,000 athletes and over 6,000 event entries at the time of this writing! We are thrilled to put on a great competitive event this year, while still airing on the side of safety. The safety of our members, staff, volunteers, partners, and spectators is our first priority. Our national staff has been carefully utilizing information from the state of Ohio, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Morrow County (OH) Department of Health, and representatives from the Cardinal Center. We were also lucky to have advisement from some of our members that are medical professionals who deal directly with COVID-19 in their communities. Unfortunately, events that produce large gatherings such as the opening ceremonies, awards ceremonies, ice cream socials, and pizza parties will not be held this year due to local, state, and federal mandates. Please understand that events are subject to change due to current guidelines at the time of our event. We ask you to also do your part in following posted health guidelines while on the grounds in Ohio to help ensure a safe experience for everyone. Our thanks also go out to all the sponsors, donors and industry partners we have continued supporting our programs and foundation, especially in a year most challenging for non-profits. A special thanks goes out to Larry and Brenda Potterfield for their continued, generous support of the SSSF and our programs. Chances are your team has benefited directly from Larry and Brenda through the MidwayUSA Foundation matching program. An open-air College Recruiting Day has been expanded from Thursday to Saturday and representatives will be on hand to discuss education and shooting opportunities beyond high school and answer any questions you might have. This is a great opportunity for you and your families to see how your hard work in youth shooting can add to your options for higher education. You can find more details on all events in this program and get reminders by joining our text messaging list. Simply text SSSFnationals to 877-617-6454 to sign up. Please stop in during your downtime to see and thank all the vendors who have come to Marengo to support your National Championship event. Vendor row is a staple of our event and we are very fortunate to have nearly all vendors returning this year. The vendor shops at the Cardinal Center will be open and are sure to have everything you need AND everything you want! Be sure to stop into the newly expanded SCTP/SASP store to get your official event shirts and other swag. Whether you are competing from your home range or at the Cardinal Center, we hope you enjoy your time at YOUR 2020 National Championships! We are glad you are here! Please be sure to share some of those special moments in your social media posts by tagging them with #SCTPNationals2020 and #SASPNationals2020 Best of luck to all competitors – be safe and have fun! Ben Berka President and Executive Director Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. 5
