Despite the extraordinary challenges of the past school year, each of you has demonstrated the commitment to go far beyond the basic requirements for graduation and set new and higher standards for yourselves, your schools, and your communities. Dear Valedictorians, Salutatorians and STAR Students: As an educator and as your superintendent, I could not be more proud of you, our young scholars, As Chair of the Atlanta Board of Education and on behalf of my colleagues, I congratulate you for whenever you seek new challenges and new ways to test the limits of your abilities. Valedictorians and 2021 Event Program 2021 EVENT PROGRAM SELECTION OF HONOREES Salutatorians The Atlanta Board of Education permits each traditional, charter and partner high school to identify a senior as Valedictorian and one as Salutatorian in accordance with administrative regulations set Presiding Challenge to Honorees forth by the Superintendent. Table of Contents HIGH SCHOOL HONOREES Deonte Bridges CLASS OF 2010 VALEDICTORIAN, BOOKER T. WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL High School Honorees At an early age, Gates Millennium Scholar and Morehouse College alumnus Deonte Bridges decided to take a route that many of his peers often chose to steer away from and fully dedicated himself to academics. This mentality, along with a strong work ethic, earned Deonte the esteemed 10 Atlanta Classical 30 G.W. Carver Early College title of valedictorian for the historical Booker T. Washington High School’s graduating class of Academy Kenneth Allen Black Jr. 2010. NORTH ATLANTA SOUTH ATLANTA Alison Christmann-Vener Wendy Nevarez-Sanchez STAR STUDENT VALEDICTORIAN AND STAR STUDENT Alison Christmann-Vener has attended Atlanta Public Schools since Kindergarten and attributes much Wendy Nevarez-Sanchez was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Alfonso Nevarez-Sanchez and Juana l. Escalon of her success in school to the dedication of her teachers, including Garland Hart, Liz Jacobs, Whitney Cruz. A bright scholar with an inspiring future, Wendy has used the knowledge and determination instilled Woodward, Catherine Hirth, Renee Pitchford, Daniel Lloyd, Adam Brooks, David Ehrman, Lee Lundy in her to succeed in academia and her community. Wendy serves as treasurer for the Student Government and Caitlin Tripp. An avid reader and writer, Alison is also actively involved at her synagogue, has Association, vice president of the Young Mobilizers, Miss South Atlanta High School, and a high school played water polo since 8th grade for the APS Knights and Dynamo Youth Water Polo Club, and played researcher at Georgia Tech with Project ENGAGES. She has been a part of numerous activities, including alto saxophone at E. Rivers Elementary School, Sutton Middle School and North Atlanta High School. South Atlanta’s STEM Cohort, VEX robotics, the Georgia Chief Science Officers, Girls Who Code, and varsity Alison is inspired by the life and words of Maya Angelou, who wrote, “Courage allows the successful soccer.
