2020 Leader Equine Victorian Interschool Senior Equestrian State Championships
Welcome to the 2020 Equestrian Victoria Senior Interschool State Championships

Thank you to all riders, supporters and sponsors of the 2019 State Championships and our team of riders that
attended the Australian Interschool Championships. Victoria became the first non-home state to win the Champion
State Team trophy at the Australian Championships, this was an amazing achievement and every rider on the team
played a part in the Team success. This also resulted in the Victorian Interschool team being selected as the Young
Team of the Year at the 2019 Victorian Sport Awards, the first time equestrian reached the final of these prestigious
award.

COVID-19 has disrupted us all in a way we could never have imagined, and following several postponements of the
event this year our final option is try to offer an event for the riders who will be finishing school this year and have
also missed many of their final year of school celebrations. We know all our other year riders will be disappointed
not to attend this event but you have more years to come in interschool and we will look forward to seeing you in
April 2021.

The 2020 schedule has some changes including:
      • This event will be conducted under the current COVID-19 regulation and EV return to Equestrian
competition requirements. At the time of preparing the schedule we have incorporated the restrictions as
best we could understand/predict and we may need to modify competition requirements
      • Please read EQUESTRIAN VICTORIA COVIDSAFE PROTOCOLS & REGULATIONS, do not enter if you do not
          agree to these conditions
      • Due to the uncertainty in COVID-19 restrictions and the desire to ensure school leavers can experience
their final Interschool event we have modified the schedule to provide a competition for Year 12 and 11
riders only. All Year 12 and 11 riders are welcome to enter and if insufficient entries are received, late
entries may be offered to Year 10
      • There will need to be a limit on class sizes and balloting may be required, priority will be given to:
                  • Year 12 and 11 riders that have a participation qualification as per conditions of entry
                  • Year 12 without a participation qualification
                  • Year 11 without a participation qualification
                  • If insufficient entries are received, late entries may be offered to Year 10
      • Only 1 person may attend the event with each competitor, there will be no spectators.
      • All times will be scheduled, with the aim to facilitate completing all your competitions in the shortest
          possible time
      • You will be expected to leave the venue immediately upon completion of your competitions. Results will
be online via Nominate. There will be no presentations you will collect your prizes for a prize collection
          point.
      • Stabling and camping bookings will be need to made direct with WPNEC. All bookings will need to comply
with current COVID-19 Government and venue requirements www.wpnec.com.au
      • Volunteers are crucial to run this event, we still need you so please consider if you can help
      • Show jumping is planned to be conducted on the new all purpose arena.
      • Riders need to have current Junior Competitive Equestrian Victoria membership to compete. Your horse does
not need to be registered, please ensure your membership is current prior to entry
      • Riders in Combined Training classes must have helmets tagged.
      • Limited amount of merchandise is available and must be paid for prior to and collected at the event
      • No school team or Nan MacArthur awards at this event, no trade stands or on site catering

In this unusual year the Organising Committee looks forward to welcoming you to the event. Enjoy your horses,
represent your school and look forward to a more positive 2021, we hope this event is a small compensation for your
  challenging year.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

riders should ride at the equivalent height eg, secondary riders jumping 75 cm should enter 80 cm CT not 60
       cm.
    • No whip is allowed in the dressage phase, however whips of no more than 75cm are allowed in the
       jumping phase.
  Scoring System
    • As combined training runs under Eventing rules, riders are placed based on the number of penalties they
incur over the 2 phases. This means that the rider with the least penalties when penalties from the
dressage and jumping phases are added will be the winner. The result is always rounded to one decimal
point. Jumping penalties are calculated in the normal manner as per Jumping.
    • In the case of equal scores for placings in a class, the rider with the best dressage score (least penalties) will
be the higher placed. If equality still exists, the closest to the optimum time (under the time set) in the
jumping element will be the higher placed. If there is still a tie, then the placings will be shared and the
       subsequent place not awarded.

   Phase 1 ‐One Round Table A Article 238.2.1
Athletes with equality of penalties for any place are placed in accordance with the time taken to complete the
round. In the event of equality of penalties and time for first place, there may be a jump‐off over a shortened
course over obstacles, which may be increased in height and/or spread in accordance with the provisions of the
schedule. Please note- this is only if faults and times are exactly the same so is very rare that this second round
  jump off is ever run.
   Phase 2 ‐ Two‐Phase Article 274 5.3
This competition comprises two phases run without interruption, each at an identical or different speed, the
finishing line for the first phase being identical with the starting line for the second phase.
The first phase is a course of 7 to 9 obstacles with or without combinations (Table A against the clock). The
second phase takes place over 4 to 6 obstacles, which may include one combination (Table A against the
  clock).
Athletes penalized in the first phase are halted by ringing the bell after they have jumped the last obstacle or
when the time allowed for the first phase has been exceeded, after crossing the finishing line of the first
phase. They must stop after crossing the first finishing line. Placing is according to the penalties and time in
the second phase and, if necessary, to the penalties and time in the first phase. Athletes stopped after the
first phase may only be placed after athletes who have taken part in both phases. In the event of equality for
first place, the tied athletes will be placed equal first.
