FIN The Girl Scout Cookie Program is a hands-on leadership and entrepreneurial program. The number one reason people buy Girl Scout Cookies is to support Girl Scouting! We want customers to understand how the girls and the troop benefit and what their purchases will support. All of the proceeds – every penny - from the Girl Scout Cookie Program are used to benefit girls within our local council. The program generates funds for a girl’s troop to fund trips, activities and community service projects while allowing her to earn individual rewards. It is also used to fund major council initiatives like supporting and building membership, creating and sustaining innovative girl programming, and maintaining and improving camp properties. Use the important program dates provided to you in this guide as your template. Make additions and adjustments to your calendar as needed. • Set a reminder schedule. Build in reminder messages (text messages, emails, handouts, phone calls, etc.) to prompt girls/parents to take action for upcoming important dates. Money: Set guidelines to let girls/parents know your expectations of how product will be distributed and how money will be collected. • Stress the importance of being financially responsible with girls/ parents. One of the main objectives for the Cookie Program is to teach money management; the first step of doing this is knowing what your responsibility is. • Set expectations for collecting cookie money. Collecting money at each troop meeting is a best practice. After distributing product to girls/parents, make a habit of collecting money at each meeting. Collecting money early and often will minimize issues of lost or stolen funds. dO W O W FINd Other Selling Ideas T YO H • GARAGE SALES: How about having a Girl Scout cookie I garage sale? Think of how little competition you’ll have! Use UR N a troop leader’s or parent’s garage to hold your garage sale. T HIN G S GS Put up fliers in the neighborhood. O W W W dO ING S • WALKABOUTS: Take a wagon train on the road. Pick a day W IN G S and a local neighborhood for your wagon train. Have troop members bring wagons to decorate and load with Girl Scout cookies. Pull your wagons and knock on doors in the neighborhood to offer Girl Scout cookies for sale. • D OOR HANGERS: Did you miss a customer as you were walking door-to-door? Create door hangers to leave behind to let customers know you have Girl Scout cookies. Be sure to leave the troop leader and/or troop Girl Scout cookie manager’s phone number. Never leave girl’s information. • DRIVE-THRU BOOTHS: Decorate a troop leader’s or parent’s vehicle and ask permission from a local business to utilize their parking lot. Park your troop’s vehicle in the parking lot and create signs for drivers driving by, letting them know you have Girl Scout cookies for sale. Remember to stay away from the road and remain within a few feet of your parked vehicle at all times. GIRL SCOUT COOKIE TRADEMARK & CAUSE MARKETING • Girl Scout cookies are NOT intended for resale meaning cookie purchasers are not able to market, merchandise or profit from our trademarked cookie names, brand, product, etc. • Girl Scouts, Hornets’ Nest Council is under contract with our cookie partner Little Brownie Bakers, and only the council has ability to approve and use licensed cookie names and products. Similarly, Girl Scouts USA determines use of traditional cookie brand names and holds approval rights for all national licensing and sales partnerships where cookie brand names are used. Therefore, local troops are unable to solicit or approve the use of our cookies or any associated brand names for resale, cause marketing, etc. • Examples: • Cannot sell cookies to local frozen yogurt store to create a Thin Mint flavor of the month. • Cannot sell cookies to a local brewery and approve their use of a Girl Scout cookie FIN flavored drink. dY W ING S R W IN G S• This is trademark infringement which can be prosecuted.
