Information about the Region Busselton is one of the earliest settlements in Western Australia, first settled in 1834. Located only two and half hours or 223kms south of Perth, Western Australia, the City is home to the friendly seaside towns of Busselton, Dunsborough and Yallingup. Proclaimed a City on 21 January 2012, the City of Busselton is one of the fastest growing regions in Western Australia. The municipality has a current (January 2018) resident population of approximately 38,300 people (Australian Bureau of Statistics Census 2016 recorded a population of 37,673) with an average annual growth rate of around four percent. The population is expected to increase to over 55,000 residents by the year 2026. Covering an area of 1,454 square kilometres, the City is a thriving community with a strong identity. With 30kms of pristine sandy beaches, it offers the perfect holiday playground for young and old. Superb restaurants and a thriving arts community with numerous galleries showcasing the works of talented artisans are spread throughout the region. Other attractions include national parks, beaches, caves, wineries, micro-breweries and eco and cultural tourism sites that have credited the region as the most popular tourist destination outside of Perth in Western Australia. The City of Busselton is a fast-growing organisation delivering a vast range of facilities and services for its growing community. Governed by a Council consisting of nine elected members that are elected by the whole district, the City manages facilities such as the Busselton-Margaret River Regional Airport, Youth and Community Activities Building, Community Resource Centre, Geographe Leisure Centre, Naturaliste Community Centre, libraries both in Busselton and Dunsborough, waste facilities both in Busselton and Dunsborough, ArtGeo Cultural Complex and the Busselton Jetty Tourist Park (formerly the Kookaburra Caravan Park). The City also delivers a wide range of important services to its community, including planning and building development and approvals, economic and business development, environmental health and planning, waste and recycling, new and existing asset management and maintenance (including roads, bridges, construction, parks and gardens), events management, ranger services, fire and emergency services, cultural development, youth development, aged, access and inclusion, along with many other community services. 2020 City of Busselton Community Directory 4
