Opera is all about heart. But, in 2019, West Australian Opera is digging even deeper. The surprising theme behind our season is…blood. Blood is life-force, symbol, power, and passion…just like the best opera. In 2019, we put four blood types under the microscope: • The sign of approaching death (La traviata). • The family ties of a warring couple to their daughter (The Magic Flute). • The price taken in gleeful revenge for past wrongs (Sweeney Todd). • The stain which can never be rubbed clean (Macbeth). At West Australian Opera, we tell stories through the power of the singing human voice. And, as always, our stories are about the experience of being human - our passions, our peril, and our pleasures. In 2019, we continue to bring you powerful stories, sung through arresting music. Join us on the next stage of our journey…it’s going to be bloody fantastic. Brad Cohen Artistic Director 01

SUPPORT US The arts, quite simply, nourish the soul. They sustain, comfort, inspire. There is nothing like that exquisite moment when you first discover the beauty of connecting with others in celebration of larger ideals and shared wisdom. (Gordon Gee) Opera is beautiful and timeless but it is also expensive, requiring hundreds of highly-skilled professionals across a range of disciplines to bring a production to life. Our donors are at the heart of what we do and assist us to put opera on the mainstage at His Majesty’s Theatre, to reach out into regional communities, to develop young artists and to enrich the cultural landscape of our State. ANNUAL GIVING There is no question that the support from government and from the corporate sector provides the life blood for a company like ours. But it’s the support of individual philanthropy that provides our lungs. It allows us to breath, it gives us oxygen. It is the very thing that puts a spring in our step and for that we are tremendously grateful. (Andrew Pascoe, Chairman) We invite you to consider supporting West Australian Opera with a donation (donations over $2.00 are tax deductible). Every gift will assist with our work.
