(Scoring Breakdown) and Scoring Criteria. Judging will take precedence over all pageant activities and schedules. 1. Miss ORA Pageant will provide three to five judges, depending upon the number of contestants. 2. Judges are selected for their expertise in all fields of the competition. 3. Judges will judge all categories of the pageant. 4. All judges’ scores will be used. 5. A Head Judge will be chosen. 6. Judges may, at their discretion, deduct points if they see trainers coaching contestants from the side during the Horsemanship or any part of competition, or if they witness unsportsmanlike conduct at any time. 7. Paper score sheets will be used and all judges will hand their finished score sheets to the Head Judge, who will place the score sheet in a manila envelope. The Head Judge will seal the envelope and sign his/her name across the flap. The score sheets will be collected and sealed at the conclusion of each judged event and the sealed envelopes will be delivered on a daily basis by the Judge’s Chairperson to the auditing individual or firm who compiles, in private, the scores. The Head Judge is responsible for the integrity of the score sheets between the times the events end until the envelope can be delivered to a CPA or auditing firm. 8. When judging in all divisions has been completed, the auditors will determine which contestants have scored the highest in each category and in the overall scores. The highest overall score will be the 2020 Miss ORA; second highest will be the first runner-up. 9. Scoring ties in Appearance, Personality, Horsemanship, Speech and Photogenic will be broken by referring back to the score of the Head Judge. That score will break the tie. If a tie still remains, the score of the next judge will be used, and so on until the tie is broken. 10. A tie score for Miss ORA and first runner-up will be broken by the Horsemanship scores. The contestant with the highest score in Horsemanship will receive the higher ranking. 11. The highest cumulative total of appearance scores in all judged events will win the Appearance Category and the highest cumulative total of personality scores in all judged events will win the Personality Category. Other specific awardees will be identified as those having the highest score in that area. 12. All decisions made by the Judges are final. Horsemanship The purpose of this judged division is to select the young lady who rates highest in: 1. Horsemanship – including control of mount and the way she handles any situation which may occur. 2. Balance – the ability to sit a saddle. 3. Positions of hands, feet and seat. 4. Mounting and dismounting. 5. Confidence, appearance, and awareness of audience. It is not the horse, but the skill, understanding and ability of the contestant that will be judged. Each contestant will either Miss ORA Pageant Rule Book 4/23/2019 8
ride a draw horse or their own in the horsemanship competition. This will be determined at a later date. As in rodeo, there will be a draw for the order in which contestants compete, and also a draw for each contestant’s mount. The pattern for the Horsemanship competition will be at the end of rulebook in Appendix B. At the end of the pattern, the contestant will dismount at the judges for their horsemanship interview. They will then mount and perform a queen’s run followed by a flag run. Note: (Please bring a flag boot with you if you have one.) The patterns should be set by the reigning titleholder, if possible. Judges may, at their discretion, deduct points or disqualify from competition any contestant if they see trainers, family members, or friends coaching contestants from the side. If contestants use their own horse, an automatic 10 point deduction will be made if parents, trainers, or friends are caught warming up their horse. Appendix F Social Media Etiquette Miss Ozark Rodeo Association is an ambassador for the ORA and a role model for our western heritage and values. The young women involved with Miss ORA model goodwill, positive character and the highest level of integrity. Miss ORA’s involvement with social media must always reflect these qualities. While social media can be a marvelous tool, it can also quickly ruin the reputation of both an individual and a rodeo royalty program. The following guideline is intended to assist Miss ORA in utilizing social media to its full potential to connect with family, friends, rodeo fans, sponsors, and all her supporters. 1. The Miss ORA Facebook page is managed by the Miss ORA Director and the current Miss ORA. You may tag the Miss Ozark Rodeo Association Pageant page in all posts pertaining your title to be shared. 2. In ALL posts (including personal posts and Miss ORA posts)Miss ORA will represent goodwill, positive character, and integrity. Do not post negative comments (this includes sarcasm). 3. In ALL posted pictures (personal and Miss ORA; in crown and banner and not)Miss ORA will be dressed modestly. Refrain from low cut tops. 4. Post frequently, but not excessively. A good rule of thumb is no more than 3 posts a day. Great things to post about: positive experiences at rodeos and events, appreciation for sponsors, utilizing sponsors' merchandise/services, promoting rodeos and community events, etc. 5. Absolutely no photos or posts in swim suits or other inappropriate clothing or with alcohol. 6. Be safe. Giving out too much personal information can open you up to unwanted advertisement at best and dangerous stalkers at worst. If you feel uncomfortable about a situation that involves your Miss ORA Page, report it to the Pageant Director. Personal safety comes first. Do not feel obligated to accept any friends to your personal page that you do not have a personal relationship with. 7. Write professionally. Use proper grammar and spelling. 8. Lady-in-Waiting: Though we would like to keep the Miss ORA Facebook page focused on the current title holder throughout her year, there are instances where it is appropriate for the Lady-in-Waiting to tag the Miss ORA Pageant Facebook page. In all posts, include "Lady-in-Waiting" after tagging the Miss ORA Pageant Page. Remember: Any photos, text, or videos you release through social media can never be retrieved or deleted. Though you may delete it, someone may have already downloaded it. When used properly, social media is a wonderful way to promote your rodeo, your organization, and your pageant. But it is also a reflection of those entities and yourself. So, ultimately, when in doubt....don't do it! Miss ORA Pageant Rule Book 4/23/2019 17
