BRIDGE SAINT BENEZET Stroll on the bridge (Pont d’Avignon) and visit of the St Nicolas Chapel. Visit with free multimedia audioguides in 11 languages and specific audio- guides for children over 8 years old. Free for children under 8. Entrance in front of the Rhône River. Entrance rue Ferruce between April and the October 31st. +33 (0)4 32 74 32 74 Pont d’Avignon: movies and tablets to see the bridge like you’ve never seen it before! A historical digital 3-D recreation of the entire Pont d’Avignon. The Pont d’Avignon, also known as the Pont Saint Bénezet, built in 1177, spanned the two arms of the Rhône river, connecting Avignon to Villeneuve lez Avignon. It was a magnificent technical feature for its time. The capricious floodwaters of the Rhone often damaged the bridge, which was repeatedly repaired over the centuries. As of the end of the 17th century, the bridge was no longer repaired, and today only 4 arches remain out of the original 22 arches which crossed the Rhone. A source of legends, and so symbolic of its city, the Pont d’Avignon has been the subject of unprecedented interdisciplinary research since 2010 by a team of researchers working under the auspicesof the CNRS. Today, at the Pont d’Avignon visitors can see the 3-D digital model which recreates the bridge in its entirety and applies all the knowledge that has been gained on its surroundings. Use our touch tablets and visit the 3-D space to connect with the bridge. Combined family ticket for the Popes’ Palace and the Avignon Bridge! Enjoy a special rate by buying your ticket directly at the Popes’ Palace, the Avignon Bridge, the Tourism Office ticket shop, or by calling us at +33 (0)4 32 74 32 74. www.avignon-tourisme.com
