Day 5 Classical concert at Sao Francisco Church FOR FULL GROUP Sao Francisco Church, whose construction began in the 14th century, is the city’s most important Gothic temple and one of the most important works of the Baroque, thanks to its gilded interior from the 17th and 18th centuries. It was the exuberance of its gilded woodcarving that led Count Raczinsky to describe it as the “Church of Gold.” It has been a National Monument since 1910 and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage since 1996.
