Fellow Federal Employees: As the Preamble to our Constitution so eloquently states, our government exists to “… establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.” As public servants, we are dedicated to these principles. We represent a powerful, caring community committed to the benefit of others. The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) provides us yet another way to serve our community and nation. Through the CFC, we can support thousands of organizations in this Catalog of Caring whose mission it is to help those in need. We can assist charities granting wishes to children battling cancer, organizations supporting Veterans, and groups dedicated to sheltering the homeless and feeding the hungry. In 2018, more than $34 million and more than 56,000 volunteer hours were pledged through our local CFC here in the National Capital Area. This year, we hope to do even better! Even a modest contribution can have a huge impact: • $17 funds one day of a clinical trial for a cancer patient; • $25 shelters, feeds and cares for an endangered animal; • $50 provides a child with school meals for one year; and • $100 builds emergency shelters for five families uprooted in the wake of a disaster. Choose your cause, share your story, donate, volunteer and join us in this longstanding tradition of the Combined Federal Campaign. Join the CFC this year with your federal colleagues and Show Some Love. Thank you for being a public servant. Thank you also for being an everyday philanthropist through the CFC! Thank you, Vince Micone Chairperson Local Federal Coordinating Committee Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area 2 Show Some Love

If you are still having trouble finding the organization, please verify with the organization that OPM approved its application for the 2019 CFC and, if so, their new CFC code. Does CFC allow me to pledge volunteer time instead of money? Yes. Visit the CFC Pledge System at www.opm. gov/ShowSomeLoveCFC to search for charities that offer volunteer opportunities and pledge time. What if I pledge volunteer hours but do not perform the hours? The CFC expects you to honor pledges of both financial and volunteer time; however, you can cancel your pledges at any time if your situation changes. Does the government insure me from loss or bodily injury while volunteering? No. You will complete most volunteer work on personal time. In the limited cases where you pledged volunteer time to charities and are using administrative leave to fulfill the obligation, please refer to your department or agency policies. If you are not using administrative leave, worker’s compensation does not cover you if injured while doing volunteer work. 6 Show Some Love
