Football is Popular! According to the 2016-17 National Federation of State High School (NFHS) Athletics Participation Survey… • Football is the most popular sport for boys at the high school level with 1,057,382 participants in 11-player football. • Another 29,328 boys participated in 6-, 8- and 9-player football. • In addition 2,143 girls participated in football during the 2016-17 season 2018 Ironmen Information Meetings 3
Ironmen History • Our Beginning – Started in 2009 by group of parents from St. Kilian, St. Alphonsus, and St. Alexis • Our Sponsor – Father Bober of St. Kilian Parish agreed to sponsor program • Our Primary Goal – Create a program that provides safe, fun environment to learn football and football cheer under Christian values 2018 Ironmen Information Meetings 4

League Guidelines & Rules • www.2badcats.com is the official site for rule, schedules, section records • Rules established by National Federation of State High Schools Assoc. with some exceptions • Coaches must adhere to all Diocesan requirements • Players must be
League Guidelines & Rules • Catholic section weigh-ins to be held at St. Bernard School on August 30 • Public section weigh-ins to be held at Penn Hills week of August 27 • Weight Limits – 2 different categories – Skill: Offensive & Defensive Backs, Ends and Linebackers – Line: Offensive & Defensive Lineman (C, OG, OT, DT, NT) • Players that do not make “skill” weight at League Weigh-in cannot re-weigh later in the season to become “skill” • Players over “max” limit at League Weigh-in cannot play until they get under the limit (video documentation required) 2018 Ironmen Information Meetings 20

Ironmen Cheerleading • A variety of catholic schools come together with one goal in mind, to support and cheer for their football team! • Ironmen cheerleaders build lifelong skills and friendships and they have tons of fun along the way! • Cheerleading is a true sport with some great athletes and impressive acrobats, cheer and dance routines. • All dance routines are customized and choreographed by Fire and Ice Athletics! • Catholic school cheerleading activities foster fitness, leadership, creativity, teamwork and a spirit of cooperation, all within a Christian context. 2018 Ironmen Information Meetings 23
Cheer Eligibility • Students in 1st-8th grade from area Catholic Schools including: Seelos Academy, St. Kilian, Butler Catholic, Blessed Trinity, St. Wendelin, and St. Gregory • Diocese of Pittsburgh Cheerleading Guidelines are followed and based on registration numbers each year, the girls will be divided into 3 squads, one for each football team! • The girls will be separated as evenly as possible and decisions will be made at the close of registration based on numbers, skills and consideration of safety guidelines with tumbling and mounting for the older grades. • Last Year the squads consisted of the following: – DV Squad: 1st – 2nd grades – Junior Varsity (JV): 3rd – 4th grades – Varsity (V): 5th - 8th grades . 2018 Ironmen Information Meetings 24

Practice Schedule • Practices will start August 13th and run Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. • There will not be practice for cheer once school begins, unless special circumstances warrant an exception. • Videos of sideline chants and the halftime cheer and dance routines will be sent home at the beginning of the season for the girls to practice on their own. This additional practice is important and needed for perfection due to the limited practices pre-season only. • All cheerleaders are to arrive 45 minutes prior to scheduled games for a pre-game practice and run-through. 2018 Ironmen Information Meetings 26

Other Cheer Highlights • After working hard at cheer practice camp in August, each football team takes time out of the practice to come over and watch the girls perform and they “take a knee.” • Jersey Day Celebration and each girl earns a special surprise (last year a personalized Ironmen water bottle). • Cheering in exciting stadiums and performing on the field at halftime with the girls names announced before their amazing routines • Opportunity to cheer at a CWNC game with high school cheerleaders doing a camp prior to the game. • Holding the “break-through” signs for the boys to crash through at the beginning of every game • Making signs for a player and presenting it to them at the Pep Rally before the big game • Performing under the lights during the Pep Rally and also during the Golden Bowl Night Game • Coming early to watch the game before and staying late to watch the game after, hanging out and enjoying our Ironmen Teams and Ironmen Family! 2018 Ironmen Information Meetings 28

Cheerleading Attendance Policy • Cheer Practice attendance is essential to the success of each season. • Each Cheerleader’s 100% commitment is required as each position on the squad is dependent on the others. Anticipated Practice & Game Schedules Training Camp • Six 2-hour practices weekly for 2 weeks starting August 13 in full pads • Mon. through Fri. from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at Marshall Middle School • Sat. from 9:00 – 10:30 AM at Marshall MS • Scrimmages will be scheduled first Saturday and / or during 2nd week • Players “earn” their jerseys! Practices • Four practice weekly at Marshal Middle School • Tues., Wed., Thurs. from 6:00 – 8:00 PM ; Sat. from 9:00 – 10:30 AM • Attendance at practice is one criterion used to determine playing time in games Games • Away games vs. Public Section teams held on Saturdays • Games vs. Catholic Section teams played on Sunday afternoons • Dev, JV, and Varsity games held at same site • Home games are played at NASH stadium • Typical Line-up: JV at 1 PM, Developmental at 2:30 PM, Varsity at 3:30 PM 2018 Ironmen Information Meetings 36
