2018 GEA Major Industry Conference Speakers Speakers at the GEA Major Industry conference represent the region’s major industries, infrastructure providers, planners and leaders in the mineral processing and mining industry. The GEA works hard in securing speakers that have timelines and procurement opportunities in line with the date of the conference each year. In 2018, approached speakers represent the mining, coal, solar, agricultural and construction industry. Confirmed speakers for 2018 Australian Future Energy CEO Kerry Parker. A Non-Executive Director, Company Secretary, CEO & Finance Director with nearly twenty years of board level experience across the commercial sector with particular experience in the mining, resources, energy, infrastructure and heavy equipment industries. At board level a Non-Executive Director for the Raya Group providing strategic financial advice for funding initiatives and acting as Company Secretary. In an executive capacity, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Carbon Energy Limited managing corporate planning and strategy including capital raising and negotiating with Chinese joint venture partners. Prior to that Chief Financial Officer for Unity Mining, Discovery Metals and Inova Resources significantly reducing operating costs and increasing revenue generation streams. Previously Managing Director for Resource Capital Finance and Panax Geothermal where I sourced nearly $200m in government and commercial funding for resource exploration and development projects. Hold a Bachelor of Commerce, Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and Securities Institute and have completed the AICD’s Company Directors Course.
Overview of AFE’s Gladstone Energy and Ammonia Project: Development of an above ground coal gasification production facility in the Gladstone SDA for production of pipeline quality syngas for local industrial customers; Project to be located in Qld State Development Area (SDA) in Gladstone (approx. 70 hectares) – option over land in place; Coal to be sourced from Batchfire Resources’ Callide Mine – Agreement currently in place, approx. 1.5 mtpa low quality coal; Production of approximately 20PJ of pipeline quality syngas. Offtake arrangement with Solar Mining Services for offtake of 600tpd ammonia product (as a manufactured product from syngas), and approximately 12PJ of pipeline quality syngas to local gas users or to power production. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Renew Estate Director Toby Roxburgh. Toby is an electrical engineer who is passionate about creating new possibilities from a sound technical base in the energy field. He has worked on energy policy, planning and sustainable design, and cost–benefit analysis targeting energy efficiency, district energy, renewables and peak demand reduction. His experience in power generation includes grid connected and off-grid hybrid systems, photovoltaic systems (large scale ground and rooftop), solar thermal, cogeneration, trigeneration, district energy, biomass, waste to energy, biogas, fuel cells and geothermal. His district energy experience includes interfacing multiple buildings, civil and underground works, piping and cabling, equipment, and project management. Chris is based in ACCIONA Energy’s Brisbane office and has a role in the wider Development team as a Project Developer. Chris is a qualified environmental planner and environmental scientist (from Griffith University in Brisbane), with more than 12 years of experience in obtaining approvals for large infrastructure projects, including renewable energy projects in Queensland. After working in consulting for 10 years, Chris has taken on the role of Project Manager for the Aldoga Solar Farm – where he is responsible for obtaining planning and environmental approvals, grid connection and overseeing all other aspects of the project during the development and pre-construction phase. Overview of Acciona Energy’s solar project ($500M): Acciona Energy plan to develop, finance, construct and operate a $500 million 1,250 hectare solar farm through a 30-year lease with the Queensland Government at SDA in Gladstone. At maximum capacity, up to 265 megawatts (AC), will deliver the equivalent amount of energy needed to supply up to 122,000 households, which is around five times the number of households in Gladstone. The project will support up to 240 construction jobs and 10 ongoing jobs, and better yet with the company adopting Buy Queensland and Gladstone Buy Local procurement policies, giving preference to local sub-contractors and manufacturers. Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2019, with electricity generation in the second half of 2020. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Qld Resources Council Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane. Ian Macfarlane was elected to Federal Parliament in 1998 and became Australia’s longest serving Federal Resources and Energy Minister and the Coalition’s longest serving Federal Industry and Innovation Minister with over 14 years of experience in both Cabinet and shadow ministerial positions before retiring from parliament in May 2016. Ian became Chief Executive of the Queensland Resources Council in 2016 and is a non-executive director of Woodside Petroleum and the Chairman of the Innovative Manufacturing Co-operative Research Centre. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Defence ($800M): Australia-Singapore Military Training.
The delivery of enhanced training areas in Central and North Queensland will benefit the Australian Defence Force’s training, as well as Australia’s bilateral defence relationship with Singapore. The Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative is part of the Australian Government’s commitment to creating strong and enduring economic opportunities for local communities and businesses. Gladstone Ports Corporation CEO Peter O’Sullivan. Peter was appointed by the Board in July 2016. Peter is an entrenched member of the Gladstone community and brings over 30 years of recent work history, 14 of those working for/with GPC in areas such as Community Relations, Human Resources and Major Projects. During his career, he has gained extensive operational, project and senior management experience, most recently as Project Leader for the Western Basin Dredging and Disposal Project. Peter directs and controls GPC’s business and operational activities, providing leadership by enhancing and developing plans and strategies to ensure short and long-term objectives and sustainable outcomes are achieved. Peter’s key focus for 2017/18 is to work with the Executive Team to optimise the capacity of our shipping channels. At the same time, he will ensure that cost effective port infrastructure is provided and maintained, and new trade opportunities are sought to diversify activities at the three ports. Overview of Gladstone Ports Corporation projects ($29.5M): East Shores Stage 1B: Stage 1A of the East Shores precinct was completed in 2014, providing the community with exceptional access to the harbour through the popular recreation area. Stage 1B of the project includes the delivery of an Interpretative Centre, amphitheatre, waterfront café and a cruise passenger interface for the growing cruise tourism industry. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

The development includes two hotels, a motel, tourist park and extensive tourist facilities including a golf course and sporting facilities. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Gladstone Regional Council The Gladstone Regional Council local procurement “Buy Local” policy was implemented in 2016 with 75 per cent of the value of all Council contracts awarded via a formal tendering process to local businesses in the 2016/17 year. This is in part due to project scopes being outside of local interests or abilities, but Council is also taking action to increase the number of applications it receives from able local suppliers. Guest Speaker and Emcee: Greg Evans. Chief Executive of the COAL21 Fund and Executive Director of the Minerals Council of Australia. Greg Evans is Chief Executive of the COAL21 Fund and Executive Director – Coal at the Minerals Council of Australia. Prior to this Mr Evans was most recently the Deputy Chief Executive of Universities Australia, before that he was the chief economist and director of economics at the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) for nine years. Greg has experience as a ministerial chief of staff in the government of Prime Minister John Howard, an official in the Commonwealth Treasury and working for industry bodies including as chief executive of the Wool Council of Australia and acting chief executive of ACCI. Mr Evans commenced his career in the banking sector as a financial analyst dealing with the funding of infrastructure, mining and oil and gas projects. More speakers to be announced soon
