RED WINES 2014 Richard’s Block Pinot Noir WINE STYLE This beautiful Pinot Noir is dedicated to our Father, Richard, who purchased the original family vineyard in 1956 and was instrumental in bringing this noble grape to the Okanagan Valley in the early 1970s. All of the fruit was sourced from established blocks on the Boucherie slopes right above the winery. TASTING & PAIRING Coming from our premium block on Upper Boucherie Road, this wine is a true expression of what makes Quails’ Gate Pinot Noir so special. It has a complex nose of lilac, black cherry, plum, forest floor and exotic spice. The palate is beautifully-balanced and well-structured, with expressive tannins and brooding ripe berry flavours. This wine is very Burgundian in style, being both elegant and sophisticated. We recommend serving at 15°C with wild game such as duck and venison, dishes with beets and wild mushrooms or aged cheddar would be an ideal match for this wonderful wine. WINEMAKING The 2014 vintage was one of the warmer seasons at our Estate vineyards, and was created under the careful direction of our Winemaker, Nikki Callaway. All of the fruit was sourced from two established blocks of Pinot Noir at our Estate featuring 667, 117 and 115 clones as old as 24 years. 100% Pinot Noir and aged in French oak for ten months, this wine is purposely Old World in style. 2015 Stewart Family Reserve Pinot Noir RED WINES WINE STYLE The Stewart Family Reserve Pinot Noir is our flagship red wine at Quails’ Gate. The fruit is sourced from our finest blocks on the Boucherie slopes just across from the winery. It is made in limited quantities and only in vintages of exceptional quality. TASTING & PAIRING Expect an inviting mix of ripe red fruits, such as cherry, raspberry and plum that lift the palate, along with sweet spice aromas of allspice, clove and nutmeg. The tannins are evident and will soften beautifully with time. Suave, with an effortless elegance, we recommend serving at 15°C to enhance your tasting experience. Try pairing with duck, Thanksgiving turkey, pork, or seared BC salmon. WINEMAKING The warm season resulted in very ripe grapes. A blend of different blocks and clones of Pinot Noir grown on the estate with some of the vines being 30 years old, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks using a combination of indigenous and French cultivated yeast strains. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels (40% new and 60% 1 & 2 years old) for 11 months before blending and bottling, giving depth and character to deliver a powerful yet supple wine. 2013 The Boswell Syrah RED WINES WINE STYLE The Boswell Syrah is named in honour of our Grandparents and is part of our Anniversary Series collection. The fruit is sourced from a vineyard close to the Lake and is one of the most northerly grown Syrah vineyards in British Columbia. TASTING & PAIRING This lovely wine had developed beautifully in the bottle. On the nose, ripe berries and violets marry with white pepper and clove for an incredible bouquet. On the palate the wine is smooth, rich and full bodied with velvety mouthfeel and deep concentrated flavours. This Syrah is reminiscent of Northern Rhone wines with that distinctive Old World style and flavour. We recommend decanting this wine for about an hour or so before you serve. Try pairing with roasted red meat dishes or a rich osso buco and its braising juices. WINEMAKING The perfect weather of 2013 meant the grapes enjoyed warm sunshine-filled days leading up to harvest. The vineyard where our Syrah is grown is perfect for this varietal; the natural air-conditioning of the Okanagan Lake cools the ripening grapes each night to create a perfect balance in the finished wine. Aged 18 months in French oak, enjoy this wine today or cellar until 2020. TECHNICAL NOTES Alc. by volume: 14.0% Total acidity: 6.0 g/l Residual sweetness: 0.1 g/l Sweetness code: 0 Date bottled: June, 2015 Case volume at time of bottling: 860 (6/case) CELLARING NOTES: Enjoy now through 2020. 2013 Merlot RED WINES WINE STYLE The fruit is grown on both the Upper and Lower Boucherie benches close to the winery. The warm growing of 2013 allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. Our Merlot’s are dry and medium to full body in style with rich plummy fruit with integrated oak spice and dark chocolate notes. We have found with experience that these wines age particularly well especially in warm vintages like this one. TASTING & PAIRING The wine is deeply coloured with notes of ripe plum, blackberry, dark cherry, oak spice and hints of chocolate, dried herbs and sweet tobacco. The palate is rich, intense and full bodied with a lovely smooth mouthfeel. We recommend decanting this wine for at least an hour or so prior to serving. Try pairing with grilled red meats, stews, braises and aged hard cheeses. WINEMAKING Our Merlot was harvested in mid-October 2013. The grapes were hand- harvested, crushed, and after 3-5 days of cold-maceration, the juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks using a mix of indigenous and cultivated yeast strains. Daily pump-overs and gentle hand plunging during a 28 day maceration period has given this wine complexity and its rich dark colour. The wine was barrel aged in new and old French oak for 18 months prior to blending. TECHNICAL NOTES Alc. by volume: 14% Total acidity: 5.9 g/l Residual sweetness: 0.7 g/l Sweetness code: 0 Date bottled: May 2015 Case volume at time of bottling: 3,865 cases CELLARING NOTES: Enjoy now through 2020. WHITE WINES 2012 Chardonnay WINE STYLE This is a wonderful opportunity to try one of our Chardonnays that has been optimally cellared for a few years now. 2012 was much warmer compared to the cooler vintages of the two previous years. The wine has evolved nicely and has become much more complex and interesting in character.
