More on CIIP Every modern nation in today’s world is increasingly dependent on Critical Infrastructures (CI) and Critical Information Infrastructure (CII). However, many still are unaware of the importance of protecting them. The CI and CII have brought many wonderful benefits such as increasing connectivity, enabling remote monitoring, allowing more scalability and reliability as well as making services more affordable. However, any form of CI and CII breakdown can bring about significant adverse impacts that Increase reliance may jeopardize the benefits they bring. CI-supported services such as on CII those related to energy supplies, telecommunications, financial systems, drinking water and governments are inherently connected to societal functions like health, safety, security, economy and social well-being of people. On the other hand, Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) host and support critical information and (tele)communication networks that encompass mobile telephony and internet access services. Hence any disruption or destruction (in a worst-case-scenario) of them can undoubtedly result in dire consequences to the public.
Risks of disruptions Today, Critical Infrastructures (CI) functions can be affected and compromised in two ways : (a) Physical disruptions and/ to public services or (b) Destruction of the CI’s essential elements as well as information and communication technologies (ICT-based) services. Other factors that can disrupt CII are human errors, technical failures and disasters; all of which also beset CI. The CII is inseparable from CI as both are intricately linked and are becoming globally interconnected. As a consequence, both CII and CI have become favorite targets of malware, hackers, hacktivists, and adversary states operations. In addition, CII can also serve as a means to attack another nation’s CII. A nation’s CII that is compromised or disturbed can lead to significant and widespread damages, from citizens’ daily lives to the country’s national security and stability. Economic and public activities can be hindered as well. If the disruptions and disturbances are not well- managed, they can affect other nations as CII has become globally interconnected.
Recognizing risks and acting on them Recognizing the real risks we face today, it is critical time for almost every nation, including Indonesia, to start developing effective Critical Information Infrastructure Protection (CIIP) strategies, policies and best practices. Our Aims The 2-day event aims to Broaden understanding Build connections and Sow collaborations Explore public-private and upped the antenna deepen partnerships and align interests sector partnerships on of Critical Information between cybersecurity on priorities and collaboration model and Infrastructure players in public and Critical Information for protection of CII in Protection (CIIP) private sectors.
