ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY The City of Karratha acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and work and recognises their continuing connection to country, waterways and community. We pay our respect to all Elders, past, present and emerging. MAYOR’S MESSAGE In 2021, the Pilbara’s premier arts festival returns – the Red Earth Arts Festival (REAF), presented by the City of Karratha. 2020 was a tough year. Major community events, like REAF, were cancelled due to the rapid development of COVID-19. Unfortunately, this meant our community wasn’t able to come together for our much loved annual festival. Given the difficulties that we faced, we are proud to say the Red Earth Arts Festival is back, better than ever for the eleventh year. 2021 offers ten nights and ten days of festival activity, anchored at our award-winning Red Earth Arts Precinct in the heart of Karratha as well as activities presented in all towns. Engaging with the arts is of great importance for our City. The arts can motivate us, aid our recovery and support longer lives better lived. The Red Earth Arts Festival highlights Council’s ongoing commitment to arts and culture in the City. Council acknowledges the role arts and culture has in bringing people together to enhance the liveability of our community. Our region is recognised as an artistic and creative hub and we are committed to activating and expanding the arts through major events such as REAF. A big thank you to our principal partner Rio Tinto and event sponsors Pilbara Ports Authority for their help in delivering this festival. Let the fun, family-friendly festivities begin! Peter Long City of Karratha Mayor
