FROM THE DUGOUT WAYNE JEROME Good afternoon and a warm welcome to you all for today’s Toolstation Western League First Division fixture. As always, I extend the warm welcome to everyone from Oldland Abbotonians here to Sherborne Town. Last weekend we narrowly lost 2-1 to Premier Division outfit Clevedon in the FA Cup with our goal coming from Ash Clarke after a well-worked corner from Anth Herrin. It’s funny to think I’m not disappointed to be out of the cup. We made the club a few bob and as we showed on the day we can compete with these big boys and on another day we could have been a couple of goals up at half-time before we eventually took the lead. But our run ended with an 86 mins winner by Clevedon. Good luck to them in the next round as they travel to Winchester City on a Tuesday evening. Today we go on the hunt for our first much-needed league points after two successive 2-0 defeats against Portishead and Radstock. We go into the game with a full squad with Haydn Hodges and Josh Williams being declared fit after receiving treatment Wednesday night from Nikki (physio). We hope you enjoy today’s game and we can reward your support with all three points. INSIDE THE BOX WITH COLIN GOODLAND Hi everyone and welcome to Raleigh Grove, this week I have searched the computer box to bring you another football story. THE DAY A DOG SAVED MANCHESTER UNITED The modern-day Old Trafford rarely escapes the eyes of those who visit the city of Manchester. It isn’t the most towering of structures in the city’s skyline, but it’s one of the most iconic ones as far as football fans are concerned. It’s a building that has withstood the test of time and stands as a testament to what Manchester United have been through down the years. The Theatre of Dreams has seen it all. From the club being on the brink of bankruptcy to the Munich Air Disaster, the World War Two bombings and even relegation, remarkably it’s still with us. It has witnessed the club achieve the impossible dream and grow into a giant of world sport. Prior to becoming a success story on and off the pitch, however, the Manchester side had to endure survival in the bleak early days of the English league players. He isn’t there for publicity; Major had a bigger role to system – at one point doing so thanks to a dog. play than the players themselves.
