EDITOR'S letter am thrilled to welcome you to our inaugural issue of the Tryano magazine, where we celebrate women in the region and pay homage to the Year of Zayed. Our spring theme, Leading the Way to New Horizons, captures a movement of innovation and discovery and highlights the launch of our latest section, Women’s Ready-to- Wear. Tryano is evolving from a category-focused to a full-offer concept department store, while continuing our obsession with offering you and your family exceptional experiences through a carefully curated edit of the best international and regional luxury, fashion, and beauty brands. Our buyers have just returned from Paris fashion week where they scoured runways and showrooms for the latest trends and unique pieces that we look forward to sharing with you in our award winning “Garden of Imagination” store in Yas Mall and now online on Tryano.com. For our spring-summer 2018 Ready-to-Wear launch, we are collaborating with celebrated contemporary designer Manish Arora who is known for his craftsmanship and unique play on colors. His rich and vibrant designs have been worn by international stars such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga, M.I.A, and Katy Perry. Manish’s pieces make us dream, as he takes inspiration from places like the Black Rock desert in the U.S. In this issue of the Tryano magazine, we shine the spotlight on women who inspire us with their journey and determination. Our cover story features the beautiful mother-daughter duo of Rita and Jessica Kahawaty. It was a pleasure watching them work together, giving each other support and bringing out the best in one another. As a mother of two young girls, I also admire how Rita has raised such a graceful and balanced daughter with a strong sense of purpose. Also in this issue, we share stories of three Emirati women who are contributing to Abu Dhabi’s growing art and design scene: archeologist, art lover, and Louvre Abu Dhabi’s communication coordinator at Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority Maryam Al Dhaheri, artist, designer, and filmmaker Sarah Al Agroobi, and innovative designer Manaal Al Hammadi. Each of them is a shining example of a new generation of women empowered by heritage and passion. These stories remind us of the challenges we face juggling the responsibilities of family, relationships, and Editor's sometimes career and that life isn’t always under the PICKS glamourous filter of Instagram or Snapchat (although we all love a good filter). Let us take this moment to celebrate each other’s successes and remember that the magic is in the journey. Cult Gaia bag I look forward to welcoming you in Tryano in Yas Mall and online at Tryano.com, and I would love to hear directly from you at sharmila@tryano.com. Enjoy the magazine. FASHION FASHION Interview Interview Tryano: Can you tell us more about yourself and how you became a fashion designer? Amal Al Mulla: Growing up, I always had this love for creating. I found fashion as my outlet to mold my ideas into reality, always having this fascination with what is beyond the surface. It’s this curiosity that still strikes me today, the string of thoughts and the process that goes into creating a piece or a collection from start to finish. I studied Fashion Design as a degree, and it was in school where I found a sort of freedom in combining my love for arts, design and fashion all together in one, sparking the idea to start my own label and brand. T: Where does your inspiration come from? AM: For me it comes in many forms. Traveling, reading, poetry, music and most importantly, experiences are always the root of finding inspiration and feeling inspired. T: What kind of woman do you design for? AM: Every collection aims at women who celebrate their individuality and all that they are. The clothing should complement her emotions, never overshadowing them. Our collections are always more about the way she feels and who she is rather than an age and what she does. Our woman is confident, beautiful, strong, sensitive, perfect and imperfect all together. Our designs are not meant to fill any gaps, but worn to celebrate how beautiful and great a woman can be by truly and authentically being herself. T: Can you tell us about your SS18 collections? AM: For Spring Summer 2018, the collection focuses on the strong woman of today by allowing her to escape the ordinary and delve into a world that is somewhat complete. The collection was inspired by a series of transitional emotions. It begins with a moment of complete chaos where the white noise begins to slowly subside, entering a space that feels wondrous, abstract yet familiar. It’s a feeling where chaos transforms into a personal reality that feels alive and bright with possibility, a reality that feels absolute. With a love for embracing contrast, the pieces balance lively patterns such as florals, stripes and different textures with a neutral color palette. Colors like pearl BAHRAIN’S whites, khaki, navy, salmon pinks and a striking mint green whisk our Amal Al Mulla girl into the new season with confidence and strength. The brand’s core aesthetic of contrast is strongly visible through the construction of the collection. The structured silhouettes and asymmetrical drapings all encompass the fusion of femininity against functionality. FASHION DARLING T: Do you think that regional designers are getting the right support? AM: I do believe the fashion industry in the Middle East has started to show great changes in the past years with the perception on fashion and the importance of supporting one another. It’s been truly gratifying to witness the acceptance and rise of regional designers globally. T: Are there any similarities between the Bahraini and Abu Dhabi women? Get to know fashion designer Amal Al Mulla H AM: There are a lot of similarities between them when it comes to fashion, women in the region have a great sense of style. Showing our individuality and portraying who we are as women here through clothing is important. We both love to experiment with fashion and our styles, and are not afraid to try something different and stand out. ailing from Bahrain, designer Amal Al Mulla merged her love for fashion with determination and drive to create her ready-to-wear label, focusing on the gap T: Any advice to young aspiring fashion designers? between luxury clothing and contemporary fashion. Hear about the inspiration AM: To never stop believing in yourself. Following our dreams sometimes is never an easy path, but with behind her brand, her thoughts about the rise of local and regional designers and perseverance and passion, anything is possible. her SS18 collection in this special interview. Walking in, her warm, bright smile, the glimmer in her eyes and her effortless beauty are signs of her past career as a beauty queen. Since then, Jessica’s journey has been on the rise as she sets herself apart from the typical fashion pack; her credentials now include Human Rights lawyer, TV host as well as Unicef Ambassador, and like many millennials, she is proud to showcase and share her life through social media. Dotted between her glamourous Instagram shots of fashion weeks, travel and street style are emotionally moving campaigns to raise funds and awareness for refugees around the world, a cause dear to her heart. Her mother Rita was beside her on set, ageless in attitude and equally as effortless and beautiful. Dancing to music in a long, lace dress by ML Monique L’Huillier, her confidence beneath her warmth reminded us all of the poise we often look for in others and aspire to have. The duo’s closeness could be felt throughout the day, filled with caring remarks, laughter, and a bit of arm linking – like best friends – in between shots and as we sat down to interview Jessica on her strengths, family and style. 28 Spring/Summer 2018

FASHION FASHION Interview Interview MANISH MANIA! Find out why Manish Arora is the designer to know this season. W ith the launch of Women’s Ready- to-Wear this Spring, we sit down with Manish Arora, the master of mixing fabulous prints and materials, to discuss what’s in store for the season and to get to know more about his latest collection, endearingly named ‘Ready to Love’. Tryano: Your designs are a work of art. What was the inspiration behind your SS18 collection? Manish Arora: Yes, I do believe design is a form of art, and I choose my collections to express it. That is why my clothes are about craftsmanship and details. My muse for SS18 emerges in a sweeping floor- length nightgown, rendered in heart lace and paired with fur-trimmed mules, or in silk pyjamas printed with dream-catchers teamed with satin eye-masks for uninterrupted beauty sleep after a star-filled night of dance and laughter. Hearts permeate the collection across print, lace and embroidery in an optimistic collection that is ‘Ready-to-Love’. T: Tell us more about the brand identity? MA: My brand identity is my life's mantra, 'life is beautiful'. I believe in expressing emotions through clothes like love, life, joy and happiness. T: Is your collection in Tryano adapted to the local woman? MA: My collection at Tryano essentially consists of delicate embroideries and meticulously detailed prints on kaftans, capes, MANISH skirts and long summery dresses for the beautiful and confident Emirati woman. T: What are your thoughts about the Abu Dhabi fashion scene? How would you describe the consumer here? ARORA MA: I know that Abu Dhabi women love fashion and they are particular about who and what they wear. They know their fashion designers and history very well. And I love that! T: You seem like a very adventurous person. What would you describe as your best adventure yet? MA: My best adventure was Burning Man, It changed how I look at "I BELIEVE IN EXPRESSING life, fashion and art. BEAUTY Interview BEHIND THE MASTERCLASS B E A U T Y T I P S F R O M I M A N A L TA M I M I M eet Iman Al Tamimi, a young Emirati from Abu Dhabi whose passion for bringing out the beauty in every woman led her to become a makeup artist. We met with Iman to learn more about her journey, her collaboration with Tryano, and her tips and recommendations for women who don’t always find the time to wear makeup in the morning. Tryano: How did you decide to become a makeup artist? Iman Al Tamimi: I have always loved anything that has to do with beauty and art. Although I had noticed my talents throughout my adolescence, it was only at the age of 23 that I decided to grow my talent professionally and went straight to Paris. I did an intensive course in beauty & makeup and got my Diploma within one month from Make Up For Ever’s Academy. T: How do you define beauty? IT: Beauty has varied throughout time, cultures and the vast perceptions of the world. I think every woman is beautiful! We should all own our looks, be comfortable and confident, and make the most of it. We are different shapes, sizes and ethnicities, and I think every woman needs to embrace her individual beauty. T: How would you describe the Abu Dhabi woman? IT: It is with no doubt that Abu Dhabi Women preserve their religion, Emirati culture and heritage yet love to remain up to date with the latest fashion and beauty trends. T: What are your picks for a trendy SS18 look? IT: My favorite beauty picks for this SS18 would be Benefit High Beam Highlighter, the Benefit Ready, Set, Brow and the NARS Casino Bronzer. This product combo will result in a bronze, glowy look with voluptuous eyebrows, which is now trending. T: Can you give us some beauty tips for working women who don’t have time to put on makeup in the morning? LONGWEAR TO STRONGWEAR IT: Skincare and makeup routines can take up so much time in the morning.
