Technical Assistance Group (TAG) We meet every Wednesday between 3pm-4pm in the Drama Studio and learn about the technical side of theatre, and welcome students from all year groups. This term we have focused on the CAT Gala with the team providing the sound and lighting and back stage help for the Creative Arts and Technology Gala. To enhance the quality of our sound desk, we hired professional wireless headset microphones for the cast; this meant that there were some very quick microphone changeovers which the team organised very professionally. The new lighting system looked fantastic and our aim now is for more of the students to learn how to operate the new lighting desk. The whole team worked really hard for the Gala and I would like to thank them for their dedication. Mr Harman Duke of Edinburgh Award In our Year 10 cohort, we have 40 students signing up for the Silver Award and they will be going out on their first expedition in the North Downs in April, practising for their assessed expedition in May. Along with the Bronze cohort, these students have been training each week in preparation for this. The Year 10s have been managing this exceptionally well with their exam preparation and we are very impressed with their commitment to the award. History Have you seen the two-part BBC documentary The Holocaust, My Family and Me? It followed five second or third generation British Jews on a journey to discover the Holocaust related past of their families. The programme was fronted by Robert Rinder, who traced his grandparents’ families’ stories as well as the stories of several other families. We have been selected, along with another fifteen schools, to participate in an enrichment project with Royal Wootton Basset Academy, the BBC and Wall to Wall Media. We have chosen twenty Year 9 students to immerse themselves in the story of Bernie Graham, who followed his grandparents’ and uncles’ story. The idea is this project becomes ‘The Holocaust, their Family, Me (the students) and Us (the school)’ #HtFMeUs, allowing the students to deepen their understanding of this controversial event and at the same time cover a great deal of other skills from emotional literacy and critical thinking to teamwork and leadership.
