Employment Pathways ‘Employment Pathways’ is an exciting programme tailored to Year 10 students who are committed to developing their skills in a vocational trade and gain experience in the workforce. The Victorian Government recently completed an extensive review into vocational and applied learning pathways in senior secondary schooling. A key feature of the review is the move to an integrated senior secondary certificate, with vocational education embedded in the VCE. This certificate will replace the existing stand-alone VCAL certificate. This will give students the opportunity to develop both academic and practical skills. The move to a single certificate will happen in stages. The first stage in this reform is the creation of a NEW Vocational Specialist Pathway within the VCE, with the first cohort of students starting the new certificate in 2023. Why do you need to know this? Employment Pathways provides a focus on orientation to work options and pathways. Traditionally students who completed the Employment Pathways programme in Year 10 would transition to the VCAL programme in Year 11 and 12. Given the new reforms, the 2022 Employment Pathways class will be the first students completing the NEW VCE Vocational Specialist Pathway commencing in 2023. Students who are committed to embarking on a journey focussed on achieving their vocational goals and entering the world of work or school-based training programmes are well-suited to this flexible learning programme.
