Leisure Lines from the Director of Parks and Recreation… Brian Emelson, CPRE, Director of Parks and Recreation As I write this note from my office in the Victor Recreation Center, I can share my excitement as we head into our 3rd consecutive season of DIRECTOR OF recreation programs and activities since the Covid-19 pandemic changed PARKS & RECREATION all our lives back in March of 2020. The recent summer and fall months Brian Emelson, C.P.R.E. have seen a return to many traditional activities that we hold dear including bemelson@town-victor-ny.us concerts in the park, summer camps, family gatherings, and a fairly typical return to the school year for our children. While we are not fully back to RECREATION SUPERVISORS normal as a society, we have made so much progress as a community in Steve Hendrickson 2021! shendrickson@town-victor-ny.us During the winter program season, we welcome back popular Department programs including Butterfly Kids Yoga, Tiny Dancers, and the Ski Mike Stockman and Snowboard Club which to will hit the slopes in early January. This mstockman@town-victor-ny.us February we will celebrate the season with our annual “WinterFest” on Saturday, February 5th as well as the return of our “Easter Egg Hunt” on Saturday, April 9th at its NEW location in Dryer Road Park! Our adult, PARKS MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT drop-in volleyball program with Christine O’Connor takes to the court on Jeff Rader Wednesday nights and we have several NEW fitness classes for teens, jrader@town-victor-ny.us adults and senior citizens including Exercise Band Boot Camp and 100 Days to 100K…Trainer Tuesdays at the Rec! MOTOR EQUIPMENT OPERATORS Our parks and trails operations staff were quite busy this year completing Travis Thomas several NEW projects in our natural spaces. With the support of the Ontario County Soil and Water District, LaBella Associates and our Town Victor Gaspar Stormwater Management office, we completed a long awaited, streambank stabilization project in Fishers Park. This unique “Root Wad” project TRAIL MAINTENANCE fortified the Irondequiot Creek streambank at the park’s picnic grove and EQUIPMENT OPERATOR Main Street Fishers parking area. Not only will this prevent erosion at Adam Reitz this high valued creek, but it will provide a much better habitat for fish. areitz@town-victor-ny.us In September, we completed major renovations to the Fishers Park tennis and pickleball courts including the addition of four permanent pickleball courts, complete resurfacing and striping, new fencing and an expanded parking area. Christened “Colyer Courts,” after local pickleball advocate and longtime Victor resident Jerry Colyer, the facility will serve our community well for the coming seasons! In the fall, we constructed a 2,500 linear foot section of shared use path in Victor Municipal Park from the Paparone Drive – Brahurst Street intersection to the playground and lodge within the park. Kudos to the entire crew for pulling together to get these projects completed during a hectic season which also includes mowing, athletic field maintenance, watering and weeding flower beds, and lodge / picnic shelter upkeep! Please note, that our NEW office hours at the Victor Recreation Center are 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., but you can access our online recreation MISSION STATEMENT program registration platform at www.victorny.org anytime. In 2022, we are The Town of Victor Parks and planning to move our park lodge and picnic shelter reservation process to Recreation Department is an online format as well! dedicated to offering ALL As we head into the holiday season, our Department wishes you and your residents a balanced system of family a happy and healthy season.
