SAHS B116 $40
Students will learn the basics of painting with oil
paints and gain familiarity with brush stroke, color
mixing, composition, texture and handling of
paint. You will create three paintings over three
sessions of one single still life, beginning our exploration with an approach called Alla Prima painting,
known as the “wet on wet” approach, or direct painting. Generally, Alla Prima paintings are completed
in one session- a fantastic way to gain quick experience! Get ready to witness yourself grow and
understand visual elements more with each session. Material fee of $20 payable in class to instructor.

SAHS B116 $40
Come experience a drawing method with many approaches and lots of room for freedom and
exploration- chalk pastels! Using this wonderful medium in between drawing and painting, we’ll create
expressive imagery with partial abstraction of our subject matter—a vibrant bouquet of flowers. Over
three sessions, we will work with different techniques of chalk pastel and learn about color and mark-
making in the process. Material fee of $15 payable in class to instructor. Gold Card $30

image construction, combining watercolor with pen and ink in
order to learn about the subject we are painting and further
our depiction of it. Students will become comfortable with
comprehending lights and darks by diluting paint, understanding colors through layering and mixing of
pigments and testing out different application processes. We’ll learn about different types of
watercolor paper and techniques as we complete one watercolor painting per week, with differing
subject matter and style. Material fee of $15 payable in class to instructor.

familiar with where art and nature coincide! Vincent van Gogh was wonderful at expressive landscape
work and we can draw lots of inspiration from his work. During this two-session course, we will enjoy
the beautiful sky and view from our classroom. Using chalk pastels, we’ll learn about mark making,
capturing light and shadow and finding color. Our first class will focus on landscape handling and begin
working on our image which we will finish in the second class..

                                    SAHS B110 $36

If you can sew a straight line, you can make a rag
quilt! You can make a charming, super cozy quilt
without putting in a ton of time or — wait for it —
even really knowing how to quilt? It’s shocking, but
true. Rag quilts aren’t actually made of….. rags.
Rather, they get their name from having exposed
seams between patchwork squares, which are snipped and frayed to create a “raggedy” look. If you
think you can't sew, this incredibly easy rag quilt will prove you wrong. Simple to learn, forgiving and
beautiful. You'll be glad you tried! Supply list emailed before the start of class. Gold Card $30
