August 1, 2021 WILDFIRE UPDATE Lytton Complex FIRE SIZE: FIRE STATUS: Lytton Creek (K71086) 50,944 hectares (estimate) Out of Control RESOURCES: There are 90 personnel, 34 pieces of heavy equipment, six helicopters, an Incident Management Team and Structure Protection personnel. UPDATE: Smoky skies, precipitation, lower temperatures and higher relative humidity has resulted in decreased fire activity in recent days. Crews have constructed a hand guard on the west side of the Thompson River, near Goldpan Park where some fire activity has been observed. On the east side of the Botanie Valley, near Sleetsis Creek, crews completed a hand ignition on July 30 and are now engaged in mop-up. Helicopters have been engaged in bucketing operations on the west side Botanie Valley however were unable to do so today due to reduced visibility from low-lying smoke. Fire progression continues to the north towards Laluwissin Creek FSR. Heavy equipment is working to construct a fire guard to north of the fire by widening existing roads. On the southeast flank, fire activity has been decreased as a result of smoky conditions shielding the fire from direct sun. Fire growth continues to be to the south and southeast, in the Shackan Creek area. Lytton Creek wildfire (K71086) July 30, 2021 A control line has been established north of Agate and heavy equipment is working to construct additional contingency guard north of Nuaitch Creek. This guard will be connected to existing roads and creeks that serve as natural fuel breaks. August 1 2021 WILDFIRE UPDATE Lytton Complex FIRE SIZE: FIRE STATUS: Lytton Creek (K71086) 50,944 hectares (estimate) Out of Control UPDATE: A thermal scan has been completed in the area surrounding the communities of Nicomen and Gladwin to detect remaining hot spots. Crew will use the results of this scan to seek out and cool identified hot spots. Structure protection units have been deployed throughout the community of Shackan and structure protection specialist have begun assessment of the community of Nooaitch. EVACUATION ORDERS AND ALERTS: The Village of Lytton has an Evacuation Order in effect for all properties in the Village of Lytton. The Thompson Nicola Regional District has issued an Evacuation Order for properties in the Spences Bridge area of Electoral Area “I” (Blue Sky Country). Evacuation Alerts remain in place for other areas of Electoral Area “I” (Blue Sky Country) and Electoral Area “N” (Beautiful Nicola Valley-South). Effective at 1100 hours on July 26, the Evacuation Alerts in the vicinity of 2256 Trans Canada Highway and Gladwin- Jade Springs in Electoral Area “I” (Big Sky Country) have been rescinded. August 1 2021 WILDFIRE UPDATE Lytton Complex FIRE SIZE: FIRE STATUS: George Road (K0804) 1,390 hectares (estimate) Out of Control UPDATE: The George Road wildfire is being managed by the Incident Management Team in command of the Lytton Complex. This incident is currently classified as a modified response fire and is continually being monitored. There are no fire suppression resources solely assigned to this fire and resources will continue to be prioritized throughout the province based on availability and prioritization of incidents. In hot and dry conditions, visible smoke and flame can been observed from Highway 1, Highway 12 and surrounding communities. Today, August 1, lower temperatures, higher relative humidity, and some precipitation has resulted in decreased fire activity. Fire growth continues to be primarily to the north, though some downslope progress to the west has also been observed. EVACUATION ORDERS AND ALERTS: The Skuppah Indian Band has issued an Evacuation Alert in response to the George Creek wildfire. August 1, 2021 WILDFIRE UPDATE FIRE NAME FIRE SIZE: FIRE STATUS: McKay Creek (K71030) 27,811 hectares (estimated) Out of Control LOCATION: Approximately 11 kilometres north of Lillooet. RESOURCES: There are 32 personnel, nine pieces of heavy equipment, two helicopters and an Incident Management Team assigned to this incident. UPDATE: On Friday, July 30, high temperatures and strong wind resulted in a significant increase in fire activity on the western flank of the Mckay Creek wildfire. Fire growth has been primarily to the west toward Applespring Creek, and to the north where the fire is near West Pavilion Road and Watson Bar Creek. Helicopters continue to engage in bucketing operations when visibility allows. Ground crews are working to establish a hose-lay while heavy equipment works to construct a fire guard on the north flank of the fire, connecting to existing roads and creeks which serve as natural fuel breaks. Opportunities for controlled ignitions continue to be assessed. On July 24, the Thompson Nicola Regional District partially downgraded the Evacuation Order to an Evacuation Alert in Electoral Area “E” (Bonaparte Plateau). An Evacuation Order remains in place for some of this area. The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District has issued an Evacuation Alert for the Pavilion and West Pavilion Area. 2021 WILDFIRE UPDATE Lytton Complex (K71086, K71030 & V11669) RESOURCES FOR BUSINESSES AFFECTED BY WILDFIRES: The BC Economic Development Association (BCEDA) has launched a special webpage dedicated to Wildfires 2021— https://www.bceda.ca/wildfires.php — which contains a live document where information will be added for business and communities, plus manuals and toolkits dedicated to disaster preparation. As the Province and others start to roll out support programs, BCEDA will update the live document so that busi- nesses can easily find this information. Have the BC Wildfires impacted your Business?
