Enterprise City Schools - Parent and Family Engagement Policy The Enterprise City School System recognizes the value of parent and family engagement and acknowledges the powerful influences of parents on their child’s school success. Parental participation is encouraged and supported in the learning process and educational experiences of all students. Studies demonstrate that when parents are involved in their child’s education, the attitudes, behaviors, and achievements of students are positively enhanced. Although parents/families are diverse in culture, language, and needs, they share the school’s commitment to the educational success of their child. The Enterprise City School System, in collaboration with parents/families, will work towards establishing programs and practices that enhance parent and family engagement and reflect specific needs of students and their families. Professional development opportunities for teachers, administrators, and other school employees shall be offered to enhance the ability of schools to effectively serve all students, parents, and families. Administrative leadership is recognized as important in setting expectations and creating a climate conducive to parental participation. Early To this end, the Enterprise City School System supports working toward the development, implementation Education and regular evaluation of parent and family engagement programs, which will involve parents/families in Center the decisions and practices for all grade levels in a variety of roles. The parent and family engagement programs to be developed will be comprehensive and coordinated. Building capacity for the parent and family engagement program is addressed in each schools Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP). The Enterprise City School System Parent & Family Engagement Policy embodies the beliefs that: • Communication between home and school is regular, two way, and meaningful. This communication will include reports on their child’s progress and state assessment results. Reasonable access to staff will be provided. • Parents are partners in the decisions that affect children and families. Parents are encouraged to serve on advisory committees that promote parent input into the process of program planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement. • Schools are inviting to parents/families and actively seek support and assistance for school programs. Schools will engage parents by holding parent-teacher conferences during which the school compact will be discussed. • Parenting is promoted and supported through training and opportunities to strengthen parenting skills and family literacy. • Parents are linked to programs and resources within the community that provide support services to families. • Schools will assist parents in helping their child meet challenging state and local student content and achievement standards. Enterprise From deployments to new schools, military children are faced with unique challenges that ordinary youth their age never experience. The ability to adapt to present and future changes deserves our respect and admiration. In an effort to recognize the hard work and applaud the coverage of military children, the Department of Defense (DOD) has City Schools deemed April as the Month of the Military Child (MOMC). It is a time to honor military youth and the important role they play in contributing to the strength of the Army Family. At Enterprise City Schools, we love our military children and their families! Celebrate military Tips for Supporting Children kids! whose Parent is Deploying 1. Talk as a family before deployment. 2. Bestow, rather than “dump”, responsibilities on remaining family members. 3. Make plans for the family to continue to progress together, and include the deployed parent in ongoing projects. 4. Continue family traditions and develop new ones. 5. Help children understand the finite natures of a deployment by devising developmentally apprepriate time-lines. 6. To children, no news is worse than bad news. 7. Listen to a child’s worries about the deployed parent and answer questions as truthfully as possible. Rucker 8. Maintain firm routine and discipline in the home. Boulevard Elementary 9. Initiate and maintain a close relationship with the school and child’s teacher. 10. As the remaining parent, make sure you take care of yourself.
