ISSUE 2, 2012 SPECIAL FEATURE ME: How did your team manage to achieve this milestone in the light of all the pressures on the industry (material costs, service and registration tax escalations, etc) ? PN: Synchronization and partnership! Absolutely everyone from the sales, marketing and production teams worked seamlessly together. With the focus of becoming more customer centric, it meant that we had to relook at the way our processes worked and improve them and the results were magic. We concentrated on deepening our partnerships with financers from regional rural banks (we were the first in the car market to do so), non-banking financial institutions, private and nationalized banks. We’ve opened up more showrooms across the urban and rural landscapes, which means we’ve added more financers and dealers. We also adapted to increasing demand by creating flexible capacities in our manufacturing operations – in the case of the Bolero we have multi-plant production to adapt to market demand. We’ve enhanced our reach and service and improved our quality. Additionally, communications played a big role – our online digital space on Facebook has over four million fans popularizing each of our brands. What’s more, we’ve made it a point to be more interactive with our customers and fan base. Personalized home visits by our mobile service stations and sales representatives have added that extra touch of caring, not seen before in the automotive industry. ME: Where do you see Mahindra Automotive in the next 12-24 months? PN: Staying true to Promise 2013, we are on our way to becoming a $5 billion business. We are also on our way to becoming India’s second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer. We need to be a far more technology driven company and research has to be at the heart of that vision. The creation of the Mahindra Research Valley will elevate our image and brand and take it to the Top 3 in customer satisfaction in India. FY12 has been a year of aggressive launches for M&M as well as the industry. FY13 will also be a similar year. We have announced 5 new launches for the coming year. India is gradually becoming a hot bed of new launches with many global launches by multinationals taking place first in India, even before these products are launched elsewhere. One of the most anticipated launches from Mahindra would be the SsangYong Rexton which was displayed at the Delhi Auto Expo. We aim to bring in this SUV to India along with its Compact SUV, as well as the Mahindra Reva NXR, before the festive season in October/November 2012. The Maxximo HT would be launched in the first quarter while the sub 4-metre Verito would be launched in the last quarter of FY 2012-13.
