Laundry Tips & Tricks ● Laundry is free! You do not need to swipe your ID card. ● We recommend using detergent pods, 1-2 per laundry load, and toss it right into the machine. ● Do not dry wool, rubber or plastic ● Hot setting may cause clothes to shrink ● Don’t put more clothes than comfortably fits in machine ● Don’t use powdered detergent in machines ‘ ● Clean dryer lint filter before and after each load ● Remove your clothes promptly so you can help your peers ● Don’t forget to empty your pockets ● LaundryView: Allows you to check the availability of washers and dryers in your residence hall before going to the laundry room ● https://www.laundryview.com/selectProperty?property=2376

Key, IDs, and Lockouts Your apartment key and the access card, or Stony Brook ID ● Do not give your key or ID to anyone ● Carry your key and ID always ● Lost Key or ID or Locked Out? ● Visit our office to borrow a temporary key‘or access card ● Contact the RA staff after business hours, overnight or weekend Unauthorized Access: Residents are responsible for keys and building access cards issued to them. Students may not transfer use of keys, SBU ID, or building access cards to anyone else. Student may not use keys, SBU ID or building access cards that are issued to another student. Violation of this policy may result in Student Conduct Charges.

Covid-19 Safety Guidelines *Based on Guidance from New York State Dept of Health (NYS), Center for Disease Control (CDC), and State University of New York (SUNY) FOR SBU STUDENTS Testing For Summer Residents- May 17-August 20- Must participate 1 day per week • FREE at SBU Testing Site Location- GLS/HDV Center • Open MondaY - Friday 9 AM- 4 PM and Saturday 9 AM- 12 PM • Results: Notification Only for Covid Positive Results- no notification if test is negative ‘- • Testing. Please note that testing is still required regardless of your COVID vaccination status. • Complete the Campus Clear app daily health screening If you have never been tested at GLS/HDV, you must register for the GLS/HDV testing site and provide updated insurance information. When registering, make sure you enter your student ID correctly for your test to be accurately recorded. Cleanliness Expectations ‘- Excessive filth that prevents the easy accessibility of living space is prohibited because it creates a hazard in the event of an emergency, and it can introduce unwanted pests and, potentially, mold. Do not wash your clothes in the sink or in the shower. 18
Cleanliness Expectations Kitchen Area The floor should be clean (i.e. swept and mopped). Any food items in the area should be stored in closed containers, to discourage pests. The stove and countertop ‘- areas should be cleaned and wiped down properly (i.e. no oil or grease). The kitchen sink should be clean and empty (i.e. dishes are cleaned and are in the dish drain and/or stored). Fire Safety & Fire Alarms ● Evacuate immediately when a fire alarm goes off ● To prevent a cooking fire in the kitchen: ○ Never leave cooking unattended. Unattended cooking is the number one cause of cooking fires. ○ Wear short or close-fitting sleeves. Loose clothing can catch fire. ○ Clean cooking surfaces to prevent food and grease build-up. ‘ Keep curtains, towels and pot holders away from hot surfaces. Regular Soap and Water is good enough ○ Turn pan handles inward to prevent accidental spilling. ○ Close the oven door and shut off the heat to smother an oven or broiler fire. ○ Be careful to follow microwave cooking instructions
Guests Overnight guests ARE NOT PERMITTED 2020-2021 ● Daytime guests are not permitted the first two weeks of class ● After the second week of class, daytime guests are limited to SBU students living on campus ● You are responsible for all of your guests actions ‘ ● Someone who remains in the community between the hours of 11:00PM and 9:00AM is considered an overnight guest ● A friend cannot live with you by sleeping on the couch or by sleeping in an empty bedroom. ● Violations will result in student conduct action
Tobacco Free Alcohol Policy University ● You must be over 21 to have alcohol ● Stony Brook is a Tobacco-Free in your room. You cannot drink if you campus, therefore smoking is not are under 21. allowed on campus grounds, in the ● If you are over 21 you can have: rooms, or in the parking lots ● Six (6) 12 oz. bottles/cans of beer ‘- ● ½ gallon of wine ● 0.5 or ½ liter of spirits at one time. ● Alcohol (beer, wine, liquor or spirits) should not be stored in common areas of apartment or suite unless all residents are over 21 years of age. 22
Quiet Hours ● Courtesy hours are in effect 24 hours a day. Residents must make reasonable efforts to avoid disturbing other residents and comply with reasonable requests to cease any disruptive activity. ● Sunday evening through Friday morning quiet hours ‘ are between the hours of 11:00 pm and 8:00 am, and between the hours of 2:00 am and 10:00 am from Friday evening through Sunday morning.
Prohibited Items! Monthly Health and Safety Inspections ● H&S timing: Every month, ‘ anytime between 10AM-10PM ● Resident Assistants and Pro- Staff conducting inspections ● Prohibited items will be confiscated and stored

Extension Cord vs. Power Strip ‘- Extension cords (single and multi-plug) and multi-plug wall adapters are prohibited because they provide no protection to electronic items plugged into them in the event of a surge, and they produce fires if overloaded. Surge protectors provide your electronic items with the necessary protection, and they are much better at preventing fires in the event of a surge. 26
No Air Fryers, Hot Plates or Pressure Cookers ‘- Instant pots, pressure cookers, hot plates, and multi cup coffee brewers (and coffee brewers without automatic shut-off) are prohibited because they generate significant amounts of heat. 27
Common Violations ‘- Other common violations include non-University furniture (small metal or plastic furniture is allowed, but ask your AC/RHD), refrigerators larger than five cubic ft. and more than 1.5 amps, foam-based mattress toppers, and storage Ottomans. 28
