Olweus Bullying Prevention Program The underlying premise of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is that students have a right to feel safe in their school and that the school staff has the responsibility to secure their safety. The objective of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is to shift the balance of power away from students who bully to the students that are committed to help put an end to bullying and to school personnel who confront the unacceptable behaviors of aggressive students. The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program teaches students how to deal with bullying. Because much of the time bullying incidents do not occur in the presence of school staff members, student involvement in helping our school put an end to bullying is critical.Through classroom lessons the students will learn to: • Define bullying and understand what behaviors are considered bullying; • Understand the effect of bullying behavior and develop empathy for targeted students; Please visit www.cal-mum.org or sectionvny.org for all sports schedules. • Learn ways to respond to bullying behavior; • Learn when and how to report bullying; • Learn the consequences the school has established for engaging in bullying behaviors. page 9
