It has been a blessing that I have been able to pursue a career that creates a product that brings people together. ” ~Moustafa Elakel Executive Chef MEET CHEF MOUSTAFA Moustafa Elakel is an award-winning, accomplished Executive Chef offering over 18 years of culinary experience. Chef Moustafa grew up influenced by a long line of home cooks, including his mother and grandmother. He has especially fond memories of cooking alongside family in his childhood home in Alexandria, Egypt. Intent on developing his skill and evolving into a strong chef and leader, Chef Moustafa spent years cooking and traveling throughout Europe before he decided to move to the United States in 1998. After graduating from Le Cordon Blue School of Culinary Arts in Miami, Chef Moustafa’s culinary career accelerated as he went on to work for some of the leading hospitality companies. His tenure with Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts brand spans almost 10 years, with his first assignment as a sous chef at Four Seasons Hotel Houston. Since then, his passion and expertise have led him to work with some of the most renowned chefs and restauranteurs such as Michael Mina and Clay Miller at Four Seasons properties in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. His next stop landed him the role of restaurant chef with the Trump International Hotel Brand where he spearheaded the opening of the brand restaurants in the Washington, D.C. location, including Benjamin Bar & Lounge and Benjamin Terrace. In 2017, Chef Moustafa joined the Harborside Hotel team as Executive Chef for Portum Restaurant & Lounge. His menus, featuring culturally diverse and innovative dishes, showcase fresh, high-quality ingredients procured from both local and international purveyors. GENERAL INFORMAITON **** COVID DISCLAIMER **** Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, room capacities and floor plan arrangements may be limited. We will closely monitor and follow Prince George’s County’s, State of Maryland’s, and CDC’s rules and restrictions for banquet events. Please contact our Banquet and Catering department to address your specific needs. Harborside wedding packages start at $75 per person. Our Catering Department and Executive Chef will work with you to create a menu that compliments your taste and exceeds your expectations. Our culinary team uses only the finest ingredients to deliver mouthwatering creations that are visually stunning. Upgraded selections are available. Complimentary Suite: We are pleased to provide a complimentary suite for the newlyweds on the night of the wedding for all weddings of 75 guests or more. Group Room Blocks: All packages come with an exclusive discounted group room rate for your friends and family. Room rates are subject to availability and will release [1] month prior to the event. Personalized Tasting: Tastings are included for all weddings over 75 guests and planned 2-3 months before the event. Hors d’oeuvres are not included during this experience. Tastings are planned for two guests, Monday – Friday at 1:30 pm; additional individuals may be added at an extra charge. Guarantees: To ensure adequate preparation, menu selections are due [21] days prior to event date. The hotel requires a final guaranteed number of attendees be communicated to the event manger no later than 12:00 PM, [3] days prior to event date. In case no guarantee is provided by this deadline, hotel billing will be based on whichever of the following is greater than the original number of the guests contracted. The hotel will overset event rooms and prepare food for no more than 5% above and the guarantee provided. Deposit and Payment Policy: An initial non-refundable deposit of twenty-five percent (25%) of the estimated food and beverage minimum and rental costs is required at contract signing to reserve space. The Hotel requires full prepayment of 100% of the estimated costs [14] days in advance of the wedding. Payment may be made by credit card, cash, or certified check. All pricing is per person, unless noted otherwise. Prices are exclusive of 20% taxable service charge, applicable state tax (6% for the state of Maryland) and a 9% liquor tax. 5
Tax and Service Charge: A service charge of 20% and a Maryland State sales tax of 6% will be added to all food and beverage costs. Alcoholic beverage sales tax is 9%. There is added no tax or service charge on the room rental. Wedding Cakes: Wedding cakes from a licensed vendor are welcomed. We offer complimentary cake cutting and serving. Set Up & Decorating: Your group will be allowed access to the event space 4 hours prior to the function. Harborside Hotel works with your vendors to schedule their set up needs. For high detail functions, please work with your Catering Manager to discuss your specific needs. Linen and Equipment: Harborside provides our in-house linens, china, glassware, silver-plate flatware, votive candles, banquet chairs, dance floor, and tables. If upgraded linen or equipment is desired, the Catering Department will work with you in selecting specialty rentals and place the order at an additional cost. Parking: The hotel provides complimentary self-parking, based on availability. Cancellation: In the event of a cancellation, a cancellation charge may be applicable based upon the original contract. ROOM RESERVATIONS Harborside is delighted to be able to offer special group room rate for a contracted room block of 10 or more rooms, held for you up to 30 days prior to the event for your guests as part of your wedding package. Guests may call in and make reservations on their own using the room block name or group link. Room accommodations must be guaranteed with a credit card. After the cutoff date, rooms and rates are not guaranteed; however, we will make every effort to accommodate any requests. Rates are subject to availability and are applicable to our standard cancellation policy. A complimentary suite will be provided to the couple on the wedding night. If the suite is available before check-in time, it may be used as the bride’s changing room. We hope to simplify your planning and look forward to assisting you with any special arrangements.
