How many times have you stopped in your track and tried to
catch a glimpse of the bride as a garlanded limousine passes by?
Yes, everyone loves a wedding because so much behind-the-
scene effort has been expended to make it a happy, grand
and memorable occasion. This is especially so when there is
elaborate pomp and pageantry as in royal weddings.
Just look at the euphoria that swept Britain when Prince Harry
recently tied the knot with TV star Meghan Markle. The overall
cost is reported to be 32 million pounds, although the tourism
boom the event created has boosted the economy to the tune of
500 million pounds. So wedding is big business!
But coming back to the very essence of weddings, they are
designed to commemorate the blissful union of two people
with deep affection for each other, and the aura can be quite
touching and contagious as family and friends, and even on-
lookers, share the merriment of holy matrimony.
We have always advocated maintaining a sensible
balance in wedding planning and spending. Couples
should go over the list of marital indulgence
realistically with reference to their personal preferences
and budgets. As a major milestone in a person’s life journey,
a wedding merits a degree of fussing over, but perhaps not to
the extent of rivaling celebrities and royalties.
