Dear Friends, You undoubtedly have heard of the word twofer (pronounced toofer), but maybe have never seen it in print. Surprisingly, this strange looking word has many meanings, but the one that most aptly describes this edition of Pathways is:“ An item that satisfies two criteria simultaneously” What I’m trying to say is that this newsletter covers MARCH and APRIL and going forward we will be producing a bimonthly newsletter. Printing costs increased significantly so this is a solution that does not involve increasing the charge to you. Given the amount of change you have all endured already, I hope you agree that this one should be a piece of cake. Speaking of cake, we would love to offer you some when we finally move into our new building. When? Well, we are on the home stretch of completion. My best guess is that we will be moving in April. Between the uncertainty of our moving date and the state of the pandemic, we have not planned indoor opportunities yet for this particular newsletter…..but we are ALMOST there. In the meantime, we can always alert you about any changes in the moment through our Constant Contact emails and our Facebook posts. Our Grand Opening, may happen over the course of daily tours for several weeks, to keep the CDC parameters….but rest assured, we will find some way to Open and some way to make it Grand. The Grandest part though, will be to greet all of you again IN PERSON. It will happen. But for now, enjoy this twofer! Best Regards, Lydia There’s Good News to share! Congratulations to the following staff members: Jennifer Yoo completed her Certification as a Group Exercise Instructor through ACE, Cindi Lindgren became certified as a Senior Center Manager and Lydia Gadd became certified as a Certified Administrator—both through OASC and the best news of all—Mary Bodmann our Youth Coordinator is engaged to be married! No good criminal leaves a big tragedy unexploited. The Covid-19 pandemic is no exception. There are a couple of huge scams going on right now that you should be aware of. First, I know several victims of an unemployment scam. Due to the fact that unemployment is trying to get workers signed up quickly, thieves are applying for unemployment under stolen identities. You may find out by getting cor- respondence from unemployment. These thieves are also able to commit tax fraud with the same information. It is important to contact the IRS, unemployment fraud department and/or the State Attorney General’s office if you feel you have been a target of this fraud. The Attorney General’s office can be reached at 800-282-0515 any weekday between 8am and 7 pm or by reporting on-line at www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov. Another big area of fraud surrounds Covid vaccines, testing and/or cures. Scammers say they can get you sched- uled for the vaccine if you pay them (they can’t) or that they have machines that will make your home safe or at- home test kits. You will NEVER be charged ANYTHING for Covid vaccines or tests and cannot circumvent the sign up process by paying. The Ohio Attorney General’s office has issued a few animated videos describing common fraud scenarios and showing red flags and how to avoid being defrauded. Please follow the links below to view these videos .All the new videos can be viewed at https://www.ohioprotects.org/learn-about-fraud, or direct links can be found here: Full Video: https://youtu.be/7KlXgQcskOc Identity Theft: https://youtu.be/fQPXxlkTrJU Gift Card Scams: https://youtu.be/8UfPc6f1kyw Red Flags of a Scam: https://youtu.be/afvu_0xMkqM Finally, if you are in doubt about a situation, please do not hesitate to call us at 440-899-3544 to run the scenario past our staff or call your local police department’s non-emergency number to ask them. There is never a situation so urgent that prevents you from fact-checking. Westlake Community Services 29694 Center Ridge Road Westlake, OH 44145-5117 440.899.3544 MARCH/APRIL
