Weather Station Process Installation Process 1. Once a site is approved a site visit is scheduled to install the Weather Station (Sensor), Data Unit (Console) and train the farmer(s) in its use and maintenance. 2. The site is assessed to determine the most appropriate location for the Sensor and Console in conjunction with the farmer and using a design matrix. 3. The Sensor and Console are installed per manufacturer’s specifications. 4. The system is tested. 5. The farmer(s) is trained on the maintenance and use of the system. Power Source • The Sensor is powered directly with solar panels during the day and charges the super capacitor for night operation. Lithium batteries provide backup power on cloudy days. • The Console is powered by an AC adaptor with three C-size batteries for backup power during power outages. It may also be run full-time using three C-size batteries. Data Transmission • Data from the Sensor is wirelessly transmitted to the Console every 2.5 seconds. • The Console can be connected directly to a computer via an Ethernet cable or wirelessly via WiFi or Bluetooth. Sites without computers can utilize a Data Logger that connects directly to the Console and acts as an external hard drive. Note, the Data Logger uses power from the Console. • Sites with internet access can upload the data to the WeatherLink Cloud (subscription required: $8.95/mo) to be securely shared offsite. • Sites without internet will have to download data to hard storage to then be transmitted directly to CFC. System Maintenance A. Sensor • Routine cleaning, monitoring for damage and basic systems check. B. Console • Routine checks for data reception from Sensor and transmission to data storage. C. Data Collection • Routine checks for data storage based on data collection intervals. • Routine checks for system updates. • Data transmission to CFC based on site specific conditions as outlined in Data Transmission above.
