Shelter Success Story A Noble Gentle Giant By Denise Zolg Rescue stories don’t get much better than this! After participating in several “meet and While Noble was a resident of the shelter, he received multiple daily walks and greet” sessions with our dog trainer, it was determined lots of belly rubs in the sunshine from our dedicated dog volunteers. Noble that Noble and his new adopter had a lot in common was already an easy-going dog with a sweet personality and loved his training and were seemingly the perfect match! On the day sessions with our Certified Dog Trainer, Esther Horn. He quickly learned the adoption was finalized and he was preparing to excellent leash manners and several commands including sit, stay, come, down leave the shelter for the final time, Noble immediately and “leave-it”, and developed the manners of a noble gentle dog. jumped in the front seat of his new adopter’s truck and decided he’d be riding “shot-gun” from now on! Animal Spotlight Who’s a smart, loving dog? Astrid! By Esther Horn Astrid, in Nordic, means “divinely beautiful” - that definitely rings true for this sweet, adoptable gal. Astrid came to the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter through “A Rescue Mission” (ARM) Program. This program focuses on saving dogs like Astrid from overcrowded shelters in Los Angeles County and providing them with much-needed veterinary care, training and TLC. Astrid is a smart, confident dog with a loving disposition. Quick to learn and very food & treat motivated (who isn’t?!), Astrid loves her training sessions and is an absolute superstar at K9 Nosework. Nosework is an excellent training activity that allows Astrid to use her nose to detect specific scents and determine the source. She loves the sport of K9 Nosework and the enrichment it provides her mind, body and soul. Astrid has good leash manners and enjoys walks, outdoor exercise and long games of playing fetch. In her perfect home, she prefers to be the only pet and have an owner who is home at least part of the day. Astrid would love hiking and walking alongside you for your morning exercise and keep you company the rest of the day. Astrid has received the loving care of our shelter staff, volunteers and dog trainer for the past year and is ready for her new forever home! If you are interested in adopting Astrid, please call the shelter to set up a time to meet this gorgeous, deserving girl in person at 949.492.1617. roaring for rescues PPF’s 20th Tail of Two Cities gala september 19, 2021 LAGUNA CLIFFS MARRIOTT RESORT 5:30 PM DRESS TO IMPRESS 20’S STYLE WAGGING TAILS Summer 2021 Join us for an elegant evening showcasing great food, top-notch auction items, adorable adoptables with prizes and giveaways - all while supporting a great cause! Adorable Adoptables Worthy Willow The strength and flexibility of the willow tree. Willow came to us as a “A Rescue Mission” pup at the young age of just one-year-old. This small but mighty girl has beautiful and intense eyes. She is very smart and loves to “work.” She walks on a loose leash, sits & stays with ease and has her basic commands down. She is a champ at “leave it” and “drop” and BREED: knows to go to her “place.” She will need a strong, benevolent leader to follow Lab Staffordshire through with her training. Willow loves the game of fetch but even more she Mix is becoming an ace at K-9 Nosework. She would be a great frisbee dog. This sturdy lady needs an experienced owner who is active, as Willow would love AGE: to share fun times. Willow’s ideal home would have a yard, no other animals 1.5-Years-Old and children over the age of 16 with dog experience. Gorgeous Grayce Grayce came to our shelter earlier this year with her sister Carmel, who was adopted in June. Sadly, Grayce’s longtime owner could no longer keep these two longtime pets due to moving to a memory care facility. We promised him that we’d find a great home for both of them - and keep them safe, happy and spoiled with pets and loving care until we do. Don’t be fooled by her age - Grayce loves to play! You can often find her hunting BREED: a toy mouse, chasing after a ribbon toy, or running back and Tortoiseshell Mix forth through her cat tunnel in search of all of the previously mentioned toys. She can be a bit reserved at first, but warms AGE: up quickly and loves it when visitors come spend time with her 8-Years-Old in her cat suite and give her love and attention. You might even get to hear her raspy “meow” which is her way of saying “hello!” Grayce loves to spend her day sitting at a window, watching the world go by. But she’d love it even more if that window was in a forever home. Grayce would do well in a home with other mild-mannered kitties - or maybe it’s time for her to be the queen of the household. Queen Grayce! Marvelous Murphy Murphy, a 2-year-old, neutered male dwarf mix rabbit, came to the shelter early during the pandemic shutdown and went into foster care right after being quarantined and vaccinated for RHDV2. He thrived while in foster and turned out to be an absolutely wonderful bunny! He’s a sweet young boy who thrives on attention. He’s a social butterfly and likes to join humans for breakfast in BREED: the morning. Murphy has a playful side, enjoys interacting with people, Dwarf mix petprojectfoundation.org and having fun with his rabbit-safe chew toys. He gets along with small, quiet, non-aggressive dogs, enjoys his fresh veggies, and will make AGE: an awesome family house rabbit with his clean litter box habits and 2-Years-Old outgoing personality! All of these adorable animals are looking for loving homes. If you think one of them would be a great addition to your family, please email animalservices@scdpanimalshelter.org to schedule an interaction. They’ll be waiting for you! 9
