Introduction
We live in a context historical, cultural, social and ecclesial very rich of events, so many
times. conflicting one with each others. On one side there are good news that unfortunately
don’t make so much noise and perhaps not affect our memory, our heart, but we know that
there are presents. On the other side many sad and dark news prevail, giving the impression
that there is no more hope of peace, justice, truth for our World. In the current context of
war, terrorism, violence, corruption, it emerges a powerful light of hope: we are in the heart
of the Holy Year of Mercy that Pope Francis has launched to feel the nearness of God, and his
compassion, his merciful love rich in forgiveness, in this dark time in our history. “A Holy Year
to change the world”, as the editorial staff of RAI News has defined. And that’s the Pope
purpose, make visible to all the world the light of the face of Christ, because He is our
salvation, He is our peace. In this Holy Year of Mercy our XI International Vides Meeting
entitled: “Love your neighbor as yourself” takes place; this theme touches the heart of the
VIDES volunteer and it’s, without doubt, a beautiful sign of hope for the youth world and
beyond.
In this period, the activities of VIDES International, in addition to the ordinary management of
the various sectors, were concentrated in the preparation of this important event for all of us.
Noteworthy also the participation of various VIDES groups and Vides International office in the
establishment of the “International network FMA. Together for education and solidarity”. In
particular, we appreciated the effort, on behalf of FMA Institute,linking the various NGOs for
a strengthening of their work in favor of the education of children, youth and women in
situations of poverty and vulnerability.
This report cannot contains the complete data of the various sectors in which we work and all
the voluntary activities of VIDES groups because many activities are still ongoing, being the
middle of the calendar year. Anyway we are glad to present and share what we are doing to
encourage each other and enrich us with the evidence and good practice: listen and
communicate lead always to be open to new ways , raise creativity and lead to increase the
membership of our VIDES network.

1. Animation of Association
Statutory meetings
Presidential Council and Board of Directors Meeting have been conducted regularly. As
mentioned, in addition to the ordinary management of VIDES Office, the reflection has mainly
centered in the preparation of the General Assembly members that is Elective, as every four
years, and on the preparation of the XI International Conference.
Relationship with the delegate
The interactive dialogue and the spirit of sharing is one of the most distinctive treat of the
relationship between the VIDES Delegates. Each Delegate is engaged in the proposal to
expand the voluntary and involve other young people in this experience of service in joy.
As every year, there have been some changes among the sisters who give their contribution as
Delegates: we sincerely thank you everyone for what each could do and welcome the new
Delegates VIDES: Sr. Catherine Sweeney Delegate Ireland VIDES, Sr. Elizabeth Campoy
Delegate North VIDES Mexico, Sr. Mercedes Rivas Delegate VIDES Nicaragua, Sr. Ana Emilee
Delegate VIDES Panama, Sr. Angeles Delegate Grassi VIDES Uruguay, Sr. Metka Kastelic
Delegate VIDES Brazil Sao Paolo, Sr. Eva Doris Delegate Vides El Salvador.
Special Celebrations
We celebrated the 20th Anniversary of VIDES Philippines. We rejoice with all the volunteers
and sisters of the Philippines for this important anniversary. During the last 20 years, we have
been witnesses of the growth, maturity, professionalism and creativity of the volunteers of
this Country. The VIDES Philippines Group is carrying out many activities reaching the poorest
districts of Manila and other cities and the rural and indigenous areas. We wish long life to
VIDES Philippines!
Visits
VIDES Korea
Further the participation at the 66th DPI / NGO Conference of the United Nations in Korea,
the VIDES International Delegate Sr. Leonor Salazar with Elisabetta Murgia and Sr. Maria Grazia
Caputo, have met young volunteers and delegates sisters from different local groups VIDES
Korea. During a wonderful afternoon of sharing and exchange, the meeting of mutual
understanding has become an opportunity to appreciate the various initiatives that young
Koreans carry on .We would like to underline their responsibility, creativity in its solidarity
and their joy of life. After just 10 years VIDES Korea counts 8 local groups and about 200
active members. The Youth witness that in VIDES have found a space that allows them to be
themselves by developing all their skills and discovering the meaning of their full lives.

VIDES Philippines
During a monitoring visit to the Province of the Philippines, Sr. Leonor Salazar and Elisabetta
Murgia, Head of International VIDES Project Management, have met several Youth
Representatives of local VIDES Groups gathered for a Seminar of Study and Reflection On
Sustainable Development Goals in 2030 Agenda of the United Nations. The Interventions by
the Executive Board Members of VIDES Philippines were inspiring for Youth who have been
able to question themselves about their Role so that these objectives become reality in their
environments.
The meeting with the staff of VIDES Philippines was meaningful, everyone have expressed the
joy of belonging to the great family of VIDES. Resilience and joy are some of the
characteristics of the population that leads to be tenacious and persevering in what they have
proposed. VIDES Philippines carries a wide variety of projects in favor of children and women
in the different marginal areas of Manila, rural and indigenous areas.
We have known closely the project “busina mobile” that allows to many girls and boys to have
the opportunity to study preventing early school leaving. Thanks to this "mobile school" will
launch awareness campaigns for the promotion and defense of the rights of child, cleaning
and hygiene campaigns; also the micro-credit project for women of these marginalized areas
was significant. Another important project of development concerns the accompaniment of
families for a wise economic management with the distribution of the goats and pigs.
Significant as well was the initiative of the mangrove plantation trees (2,000) planted with
the help of VIDES Korea, which give the Mindoro area a natural defense to prevent flooding as
well as encourage the growth of biodiversity.
Relevant meetings
International network FMA. Together for education and solidarity
VIDES International and FVGS non-profit organization and its representatives took part in 2016
February 19 to 20, the Constitution of the "International network FMA. Together for education
and solidarity ". This network, promoted by the FMA Institute, in order to connect the various
FMA NGOs for a strengthening of their work in favor of children, youth and women education
especially in situations of poverty and vulnerability. The President of VIDES International is
the coordinator of this network which is composed by 4 VIDES groups (VIDES Italy, Spain
Valencia - Aragon VIDES, VIDES Madreselva and VIDES Spain Sur) in addition to Vides
International1.
As members of this network Vides International and FVGS attended the event “Solidarity Fair”
in Paris May 19 to 22 which was a chance to express solidarity and raise awareness and
citizenship in various activities in favor of girls, boys and women in situation of poverty2.

Pastoral Youth field
As member of Youth Pastoral sphere, the International Delegate attended several meetings of
reflection, comparison, sharing and organizing various activities planned for the six-year
period 2014 - 2020. Along with the counselors we have questioned the reality of youth, trends
in society regarding the education of children and youth and the youth situation. In particular,
we felt the need to take action for youth empowerment in international forums, especially in
the Human Rights Council at the United Nations in Geneva. There is a need to promote the
Institute and VIDES, education in and for Human Rights with the aim of helping young people
to empower and promote their human rights so that every person is aware of rights and have
the tools necessary to defend their dignity.
Sr. Leonor attended the meetings with the neo-provincials (18.01 and 13.07 in 2016) to let
them know how to decline concretely the priorities selected by the FMA GC XXIII. One of the
most significant activities for Youth Pastoral field is the presentation of Programming to
various FMA Interprovincial Conferences with a gathering of inspectors, coordinators of Youth
Pastoral and Social Communication. That’s why, Sr. Leonor attended at Cochabamba, Bolivia
from April 29th to May 3rd,the Meeting of the Interspectorate Conference CINAB
(Interinspectorate Andean and Bolivarian Nations Conference: Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia,
Ecuador and Peru), a rich encounter fraternity of knowledge of good practices of different
FMA communities, exchange and discussion on young people and children needs. The
participants, in this occasion, were questioned about the quality of education that is
proposed as a response to their deepest needs3.
Partecipation at International Forum - United Nations
VIDES received by ECOSOC (United Nations Economic and Social Council) the approval of the
3rd Quadrennial Report that allow us to continue, in United Nations forum, the advocacy and
lobbying activities of human right promotion, in particular right to education and youth
empowerment.

Human Rights Council in Geneva
In this period VIDES International through the Human Rights Office, has presented with IIMA
(Istituto Internazionale Maria Ausiliatrice) and other NGOs of Catholic inspiration and not, 7
oral and written statements. The statements, presented during the Session XXXI and XXXII of
the Human Rights Council regarding item 3, item 8 and 6 on the implementation of
recommendations made to the state examined (Universal Periodic Review). The main topics
were: Right to peace, Right to solidarity, Right to development, battle against children
violence in the context of the Special Rapporteur Report during his visits to Georgia and Ivory
Coast, for the youth empowerment by the human rights perspective.
The youth empowerment statement has approved by a resolution adopted by the Human
Rights Council at the end of the Session XXXII presented by El Salvador and cosponsored by
154 countries. The approval is a source of great satisfaction for Human Rights Office which is
always the frontline to draw the attention of States Member on youth empowerment. The
resolution decides to convene to be held next September 2016, during the Human Right
Council, a panel discussion on the issue of youth. It opens the way for a commitment for
states for youth participation policies, access to work and access to quality education at
university and professional levels.
The International Delegate has also attended in Geneva two training courses on the defense
mechanisms of Human Rights for coordinators of youth pastoral organized by IIMA and VIDES .
The course for coordinators in Italian language was held during the March Session of the
Human Rights Council. The last course was held in Spanish language for coordinators of Spain
and Latin America during the June session. Sisters and laic participants expressed their
gratitude for this opportunity to broaden their vision on the reality of the world learning to
use the tools for human rights defense and promotion4.
66th Conference of the DPI / NGO UN
VIDES International (Sr. Leonor Salazar and Elisabetta Murgia) and IIMA (Sr. Maria Grazia
Caputo) attended the 66th United Nations (UN) Department of Public Information (DPI)
Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Conference in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea. The title
of the conference, for the first time hosted by Asia, was: “Education for Global Citizenship:
Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals Together”.
The theme is particularly relevant for IIMA and VIDES. The Conference, in an atmosphere of
respect and listening, has discussed on the most relevant aspects of quality education respon-
ding to scientific and technological challenges of the globalized world. There was some
discussion on the importance of ethics, education to interculturality and universal values,
peace education. The Final Declaration has summarized the main concepts for a quality edu-
cation that can make an effective contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development
Goals in 2030 Agenda, considering the respect for human rights, the dignity and the Good
Common as a foundation5.

Associative life
The “joy of living” is one of the characteristics of the VIDES groups in the world. Just looking
to social networks, where there’s a VIDES group it discovers the face of young, happy to serve
those who are in poverty.
We have 61 member groups (some groups are reorganizing for internal reasons to the
respective provinces, they have asked to be still enrolled at VIDES). There are 51 active
member groups. The Local groups are about 210 and there are 5,000 active volunteers.
Despite the crisis situation in which we live there are plenty of youth who care about
solidarity, they are tired of a world that cannot give answers to their questions, they’re trying
to actively contribute to a change in society: "we not only dream a different world, but we
make it happens, " says a VIDES group slogan. There are many witnesses of young people who
describes how the volunteering experience has given their life a new horizon, to continue a
growth path, discovering that it’s better to illuminate a light that complain about the
darkness, trying to walk and synergy network to make their own contribution.
Voluntary
We realize from the news we receive that “there is a forest that grows in silence” without
noise, but growing and multiplying: youth living in difficult situations, are seeking, without
fear, the common good with intelligence and heart. All VIDES groups are working in favor of
the most vulnerable groups of society.
The volunteer camps are multiplying: there are volunteers for migrants, refugees (especially
Syrians and from others conflict zones) and ethnic minorities (Roma, Gypsies, and indigenous
populations). Others are very active in marginalized areas; there are also school camps,
education to and for Human Rights, initiatives and campaigns for children and women rights.
They work with passion for the right to education, from formal to informal and non-formal
education: after school (targeted to prevent early school leaving, to promote access to an
inclusive children quality education) in sport, theater, language study, vocational schools.
Many of them are realizing fundraising campaigns, parties, dinners, stands, exhibitions and
solidarity markets. Others, however, carry out projects and micro-projects development that
support the commitments of the FMA in the mission field and beyond. Many others are
engaged in the preparation of volunteers for an international mission.
All groups seeking to provide appropriate training for young volunteers in both local and
international fields. The training addresses topical issues, Salesian spirituality, the preventive
system, human rights, and the Church's social doctrine. Many of them are committed to
making known the sustainable development goals UN in 2030 Agenda working for youth
empowerment and awareness of their role in building a society of justice and peace.

Support at distance
The love is by its nature creative and it generates life. The support at distance in VIDES
presents in itself an opportunity to grow in humanity. It happens to us to discover to be
capable of generating hope beyond borders. We receive many witnesses from supporters,
supported and from FMA community. For example we received from Viet Nam the request to
help a girl affected by a thyroid cancer: the prompt communication to supporters allowed
intervening in time with more than positive results. We recognize that there are so many
needs in the different countries where the support at distance is active, but every time we
discover that the generosity and mercy are beyond all boundaries, creating true bridges of
solidarity and peace.
Projects and micro-projects
“I would encourage everyone to think of human society not as a space where strangers
compete and try to prevail, but rather as a house or a family where the door is always open
and people try to accept one each other6. "The Pope Francis words reflect the aim of the
VIDES projects and micro-projects, where we try to network with other organizations so that
many children, youth and women have access to quality education to enable them to assure
their role in their countries.
As already said it’s impossible to account all projects implemented by VIDES groups in the
world but we‘ll limited to describe only what Vides International has doing.
VIDES International has received the approval of seven cooperation projects; one of these was
developed in partnership with the Project Office of the Institute (the construction of an
air-raid bunker for the FMA school in Nazareth). European Union has also approved the project
presented in Erasmus + sector. We have presented other 5 projects that are still pending and
there are 6 projects under construction. The projects concern building schools (India Shillong,
Nazareth in Israel), professional courses (Myanmar, Colombia), a deep campaign of human
rights education in India, the support of the medical dispensary at Waw in the South Sudan.
This work fill us up of hope and joy because it’s possible see a chain of love with one’s own
eyes.
Communication and dissemination
Communication is very important to build bridges, facilitate meeting and raise solidarity and
inclusion, enriching the Vides family. The use of social networks, sms, chat, email,
newsletters, bulletins etc. Is continuous between VIDES groups and allows us to feel
neighbors, to discover new way to act the good, encouraging us to learn from each other.
The television program called “Spazio Libero” By RAI (Italian TV) has dedicated an episode on
volunteer of VIDES International and another episode on Support at distance of FVGS and the
development projects and micro-projects. We believe that witnesses’ words and gestures
generate desires for good, infecting the others of this “good viruses” called VIDES, as a
volunteer said.

Administration
Accountability and transparency in resource management are features common to all VIDES
groups. This important matter allows us to achieve the Association’s goals. There are so many
challenges in this area since governments and administrations have cut the funds for
international cooperation that it’s increasingly difficult to get financing for development
projects. The International VIDES budget in 2015 reflects this difficult situation: the year
ended unfortunately with a significant deficit. But we are continuing the research of Finance
Corporation and new fundraising actions.
Concluding remarks
The witnesses of the volunteers, supporters, FMA communities in contact with VIDES are very
encouraging because they allow us to grow with the certainty that love is the most powerful
force that moves the world. Confidence in the youth, in their enthusiasm and creativity,
confidence in what we can do as humanity grows despite bad news that come from many parts
of the world. The VIDES volunteers are indeed bearers of hope and joy; they make happy
many people with whom they interact.
It seems to mention well in this regard what a young VIDES volunteer in Angola said: "There is
no doubt that serving others is a great adventure that conduct us very far and not in territorial
sense ... this adventure brings us towards ourselves, seeing ourselves reflected in others and
others reflected in you. At the end, when you understand that God is in the center and
supports us in a mutual embrace we realize that we are no different, all of us really have light
and our research sometimes see outside and we believe to meet it, but thankfully God invites
us to look within, calling us with its many voices, sometimes cries, whispers and silences and
He shows that this light is the own humanity.

International Network FMA
Roma (Italia). Il 19 e 20 febbraio 2016, presso la Casa ispettoriale FMA di via Marghera a Roma,
si è svolto l'incontro tra le Associazioni FMA operanti in solidarietà e cooperazione, che hanno
dato vita alla Rete Internazionale FMA"Together for Education and Solidarity".
Per contribuire con più efficacia allo sviluppo integrale di ogni membro della famiglia umana,
attraverso l'educazione dei giovani, la crescita di uno spirito di solidarietà verso i più poveri
e i disagiati, la formazione di giovani generazioni di cittadini, è indispensabile oggi sviluppare
una globalizzazione della solidarietà, come ci invita a fare Papa Francesco. Il rispetto della
vita e della dignità umana, sono infatti cardine e paradigma di qualsiasi attività pastorale
della Chiesa. Animate da questa necessità, nove associazioni dell'Istituto FMA operanti nella
solidarietà e cooperazione, su invito dell'Economa Generale suor Vilma Tallone, si sono
ritrovate il 19 e 20 Febbraio presso la Casa FMA di via Marghera a Roma, per riflettere insieme
sulle possibili modalità di operare e collaborare insieme per consolidare le loro attività e
sviluppare una comune"fantasia della carità".
L'incontro ha coinvolto suor Emilia Sacristan, Fundacion Madreselva; suor Leonor Salazar,
Fondazione Volontariato Giovani Solidarietà (FVGS) e Associazione VIDES Internazionale; suor
Cristina Camia, Associazione Missione Giovani FMA; suor Birgit , Missionsprokur Don Bosco
SCHWESTERN; suor Gabriella Patino, Delegata Ex Allieve; suor Giovanna Montagnoli,
Associazione VIDES – (Italia); suor Chiquinquirà Cuadrado, Associazione VIDESSUR; suor Chelo
Chuan, VIDES SPAGNA.
L'intenso scambio di informazioni sulle attività realizzate da tutte le associazioni presenti,
hanno confermato l'utilità dell'incontro e la necessità di un coordinamento che faciliti e
rafforzi la collaborazione tra le associazioni e tra queste e l'Istituto FMA per il raggiungimento
delle comuni finalità a favore dei giovani e delle donne. Insieme siamo comunità e casa che
evangelizza. Insieme possiamo essere voce che si fa sentire e mani che operano con più
efficacia. I lavori si sono conclusi con la proposta di creare una rete operativa tra le
associazioni che intendono aderire per collaborare insieme.
12Non una nuova Associazione. Non una nuova struttura. Un servizio comune, che lascia la piena
autonomia decisionale ed operativa a tutti, ma che aiuti e faciliti la collaborazione e la
comunicazione tra le associazioni aderenti, tra queste e l'Istituto, tra queste e le istituzioni.
Su proposta dell'Istituto, dopo l'approvazione da parte della Madre generale, Madre Yvonne
Reungoat, della proposta elaborata, è nato l'International Network FMA – Together for
Education and Solidarity – al quale le associazioni che hanno partecipato all'incontro, così
come le altre associazioni riconosciute dall'Istituto FMA, possono oggi confermare la loro
adesione.
A coordinare questo servizio, l'Istituto ha nominato il Sig. Guido Barbera (@mail
guido.barbera@cgfma.org) che da quarant'anni opera nel coordinamento di associazioni del
settore della solidarietà e della cooperazione.
L'International Network FMA si presenterà come gruppo di associazioni FMA al Salone della
Solidarietà a Parigi dal 19 al 21 maggio, dove presenterà alcune delle attività che vengono
realizzate dalle FMA a favore dei giovani e delle donne nelle condizioni più svantaggiate, a
partire dalle ragazze e ragazzi di strada.

International Network FMA al
Salone della Solidarietà a Parigi
Parigi (Francia). Il 19 maggio 2016, l’International Network FMA (Together for Education and
Solidarity), debutta alla prima giornata del Salone della Solidarietà a Parigi. L’International
Network FMA è costituito da otto associazioni dell’Istituto FMA operanti nella solidarietà e
cooperazione: Associazione Missione Giovani FMA, Fondazione Volontariato Giovani
Solidarietà FVGS, Fundacion Madreselva, Missionsprokur Don Bosco SCHWESTERN, VIDES
Internazionale, VIDES Italia, VIDESSUR, VIDES SPAGNA.
Insieme per l’educazione e la solidarietà è la proposta portata negli incontri avuti con molti
dei 230 rappresentanti di associazioni Europee e africane per contribuire con più efficacia allo
sviluppo integrale di ogni membro della famiglia umana, attraverso l’educazione dei giovani,
la crescita di uno spirito di solidarietà verso i più poveri e i disagiati, la formazione di giovani
generazioni di cittadini, secondo il carisma dell’Amore preventivo delle FMA.
Dopo la presentazione del Network e delle sue associazioni impegnate nella costruzione di un
cammino comune di cooperazione a sostegno delle attività FMA in vari incontri collettivi e
bilaterali, l’International Network FMA ha presentato, all’interno di questa prima giornata del
6° Salone, dedicata agli operatori della solidarietà, l’evento: Giovani e donne per lo sviluppo
e per un Europa aperta al mondo. Cristina Perez della Fondazione Madreselva (Spagna) e suor
Sarah Garcia delle Filippine hanno condiviso le loro esperienze ed il loro impegno di
volontaria e di suora FMA, in rappresentanza delle migliaia di volontari e di tutte le FMA che
quotidianamente sono in prima fila a fianco dei bambini, dei giovani, delle donne.
14“La crisi finanziaria ed economica che sta attraversando l'Europa è diventata crisi politica, di
ideali, di valori e di principi fondamentali, ha sottolineato il coordinatore dell’International
Network FMA, Guido Barbera, nel coordinare l’incontro. Egli ha evidenziato il protagonismo
dei giovani e delle suore FMA di fronte alle crisi europee e mondiali per garantire la tutela dei
diritti umani fondamentali e dei beni comuni attraverso il volontariato e la cooperazione. Un
altro mondo è possibile se al posto degli interessi materiali, politici ed economici,
anteponiamo il bene comune e ci lasciamo guidare dal valore dell’Amore preventivo. Non
protagonismo, ma presenza concreta basate sulle relazioni umane, i diritti, l’educazione, i
beni comuni”.
Basta al prevalere dell’economia e degli interessi, sulla vita e sulla pace. Il saluto di suor
Sarah in chiusura della prima giornata del Salone, ha aiutato tutti a riflettere sul nostro ruolo
e sul valore della solidarietà. Una bimba che con la sua mamma ha portato delle caramelle
per distribuirle ai bambini poveri si è messa a fare capricci perché ne voleva una anche lei. Di
fronte al rifiuto della mamma, si è messa in un angolo a piangere disperata. Una povera
bimba, presa la sua caramella, è andata da lei e gliel’ha donata. La bimba ha smesso di
piangere e le ha fatto un sorriso, ma il sorriso della bambina povera è molto più grande! Il
sorriso della solidarietà, dei volontari e delle suore è sempre smagliante lungo tutte le strade
dei 96 Paesi dove operano. È il sorriso dell’Amore.

Missione educomunicativa ed
evangelizzatrice
Cochabamba (Bolivia). Le Ispettrici e le Coordinatrici ispettoriali per la Pastorale giovanile e
per la Comunicazione sociale dei diversi Paesi delle Nazioni Bolivariane, si sono ritrovate
insieme nell'Ispettoria "Nostra Signora della Pace" a Cochabamba in Bolivia, dal 29 aprile al 3
maggio 2016 per l'incontro di formazione della Conferenza Interispettoriale delle Nazioni
Bolivariane (CINAB), sul tema "La missione educativa delle FMA, luodo di incontro per una vita
piena".
È stata un'opportunità straordinaria per realizzare gli orintamenti del Capitolo generale XXIII
e per camminare iniseme verso un'animazione convergente che incida nelle ispettorie e
tocchi il cuore dei giovani di oggi.
L'apertura dell'incontro ha avuto come protagonisti i giovani che hanno presentato una danza
della tradizione popolare, motivando i partecipanti a mettersi in atteggiamento di ricerca.
I giovani sono la ragione della missione educativa e il luogo sacro dell'incontro con Dio.
È presente e accompagna l'incontro suor Silvia Boullosa, consigliera visitatrice e referente
della CINAB. Nel suo saluto ricorda che le realtà sono diverse e complesse e sono una sfida per
gli educatori e i consacrati. Invita poi a vivere con speranza e gioia la corresponsabilità e la
condivisione nell'animazione della missione educativa.
Suor Edith Franco, Presidente della CINAB e Ispettrice dell'Ispettoria boliviana, da il
benvenuto e incoraggia a condividere tra noi e con il Signore che è presente e accompagna
con la Sua Parola. 16Suor Runita Borja, Consigliera per l'Ambito della PG e suor Maria Helena Moreira, Consigliera
per l'Ambito della Comunicazione presentano gli obiettivi condivisi dell'incontro:
• Promuovere e rafforzare la corresponsabilità nell'animazione della missione educativa;
• Riflettere insieme sull'identità e il ruolo delle Coordinatrici di PG e di CS per promuovere
un'azione interambiti;
• Rafforzare il coordinamento per la comunione per un'animazione in sinergia tra le
Coordinatrici di PG e di CS.
Esse sottolineano che ogni FMA è un'educatrice che si forma per la missione educativa, e a sua
volta, la stessa missione forma e trasforma. D'altra parte, l'icona e il testo biblico che fa da
guida in questi giorni è il passo dei discepoli di Emmaus (Lc 24,13-35), vissuto in tre fasi.

Sono stati giorni in cui ci siamo lasciate interpellare da alcune domande: come animare? Che
cosa si aspetta da noi la comunità ispettoriale? Perché si fa fatica a raggiungere il cuore dei
giovani? Come diventare veramente educomunicatrici salesiane, portatrici della bella notizia
del Vangelo, attraverso parole e azioni?
Suor Leonor Salazar, delegata Vides, ha moderato la presentazione delle tematiche e il lavoro
in gruppo ispettoriali e interispettoriali.
I temi di dell'incontro sono stati: il volto degli Ambiti di PG e CS, la missione educomunicativa
ed evangelizzatrice, l'intenzionalità educomunicativa e carismatica, l'animazione, la
formazione e la gestione, la produzione (processi e scelte operative), l'invito ad "uscire".
Ogni FMA è un'educatrice ovunque il Signore la chiama a lavorare; la missione educativa è il
luogo dell'incontro quotidiano con Dio, i giovani, i laici i collaboratori, i genitori, le nostre
sorelle. Come Coordinatrici di PG e CS, siamo chiamate a ravvivare la passione del cuore
oratoriano, per garantire la formazione del nucleo animatore che testimonia la vita cristiana
e carismatica in ogni ambiente educativo, facilitare così la realizzazione di ecosistemi
educomunicativi nell'ottica del Sistema Preventivo.

Corso di Diritti Umani per coordinatrici
di Pastorale Giovanile
(lingua italiana a marzo e lingua spagnola a giugno)
27 giugno 2016: una data significativa…A Ginevra durante la 32° sessione del Consiglio dei
Diritti Umani viene presentata e approvata per consenso una risoluzione su ‘Giovani e Diritti
Umani’. E’ la prima volta che i giovani entrano di diritto, riconosciuti, nelle Nazioni Unite a
Ginevra.
La risoluzione è presentata da El Salvador in nome di 153 Stati. Il contenuto era stato
preparato dall’Ufficio dei Diritti Umani dell’Istituto, sollecitato a collaborare grazie
all’esperienza accumulata in questi anni con i side events e gli interventi a livello scritto e
orale.
Il testo fa riferimento al fatto che oggi i giovani debbono confrontarsi con difficoltà specifiche
che hanno bisogno di un’azione concertata degli stati, del sistema delle Nazioni Unite e
tenendo presente che le scelte politiche vengono fatte per aiutare i giovani a superare le
difficoltà che incidono sul loro benessere. Inoltre viene sottolineato il ruolo che possono
giocare per la promozione della pace, per uno sviluppo sostenibile e l’importanza della loro
partecipazione attiva per contribuire al raggiungimento di un bene comune.
Viene approvato senza voto (per consenso) e prevede per settembre nella 33ma sessione del
Consiglio ci sia una riunione-dibattito su “Giovani e Diritti Umani” con l’obiettivo di
evidenziare le difficoltà incontrate dai giovani nell’esercizio dei loro diritti, di individuare le
buone prassi e quali insegnamenti se ne possono trarre. L’obiettivo è di arrivare a definire le
misure politiche per dare ai giovani i mezzi per poter esercitare i loro diritti. 18Il Capitolo Generale XXIII ci ha invitate ad essere “con i giovani missionarie di speranza e di
gioia” qualificando il nostro servizio verso le periferie giovanili attraverso l’educazione.
I giovani oggi, nella grande maggioranza, sono i nostri poveri: il non accesso al lavoro, a studi
qualificati, l’incertezza con cui si confrontano, la provvisorietà delle situazioni che si vivono
li stanno rendendo sempre più facile preda di proposte ingannevoli e falsi ideali che
sconfinano nella disperazione o nel terrorismo.
Farli sentire parte attiva nella costruzione di un bene comune, credere nelle loro energie
attraverso le proposte di volontariato e confidare nel loro apporto come protagonisti è quanto
l’Istituto attraverso le scuole, i corsi professionali, i centri giovanili, il VIDES hanno fatto in
questi anni.
Facendo riferimento a tutto il lavoro che come Istituto si sta realizzando per promuovere il
protagonismo dei giovani (l’empowerment) l’Ufficio dei Diritti Umani in questi anni ha
cercato di far conoscere l’importanza di saper intervenire con prevenzione nella questione
giovanile.
L’aver presentato le buone prassi attraverso la testimonianza diretta delle suore, dei
volontari provenienti da vari paesi, l’essere intervenute in varie riunioni su questo tema ha
reso credibile la nostra proposta, e l’invito a collaborare per la stesura di un testo che ha
fatto il suo ingresso alle Nazioni Unite.
Si è potuto così realizzare quanto auspicato nel Capitolo generale XX di essere presenti lì dove
si decidono le politiche giovanili.

Partecipazione del VIDES Internazionale
e IIMA alla 66a Conferenza del DPI/NGO
delle Nazioni Unite
VIDES Internazionale e IIMA hanno partecipato alla 66esima Conferenza del Dipartimento
delle Nazioni Unite per l’informazione pubblica- Organizzazioni non governative (DPI-NGO)
che si è tenuta a a Gyeongju, nella Repubblica di Corea. Il tema della conferenza, per la
prima volta tenuta in Asia, è stato:“L’Educazione alla Cittadinanza Globale: Raggiungere
insieme gli Obiettivi per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile”.
Data la centralità dell’educazione per l’operato del VIDES e di IIMA la partecipazione alle tre
giornate (dal 30 maggio al 1 giugno) è stata particolarmente significativa e di arricchimento
per le due realtà dell’Istituto FMA.
La Conferenza ha rappresentato un’opportunità unica di coinvolgimento della società civile
sul ruolo centrale dell’educazione quale fondamento dello sviluppo sostenibile e chiave per il
raggiungimento dei nuovi obiettivi di sviluppo sostenibile dell’agenda ONU 2030.
Il riconoscimento della società civile quale attore chiave è arrivato sin da subito dal
Segretario Generale Ban Ki-moon che, alla presenza di oltre duemila persone, ha aperto
ufficialmente la conferenza, affermando: “Abbiamo bisogno dei governi, del settore privato
e della società civile”. “Senza la [loro] partecipazione, nessuna iniziativa, per quanto
ambiziosa, potrà mai essere pienamente realizzata.” Il Segretario ha poi sottolineato
l’importanza dell’Obiettivo di Sviluppo Sostenibile n.4 “Educazione di qualità” , ribadendo
come “l’educazione possa trasformare le società più povere in società ricche e sviluppate
[…]”. Questo è possibile solo se “si eliminano le disuguaglianze nell’accesso all’educazione”.
20Le giornate intense e ricche hanno previsto sessioni plenarie in apertura e chiusura, tavole
rotonde interattive, seminari organizzati dai partecipanti, mostre ed eventi collaterali. In
questa cornice, le ONG hanno partecipato con un ruolo di primo piano, alla guida di
laboratori, mostre ed eventi ispirati ai temi della Conferenza.
Le discussioni principali tra i partecipanti alla Conferenza, ONG; esperti, rappresentanti di
vari governi e agenzie ONU si sono sviluppate attorno al tema dell’educazione nelle sue
molteplici declinazioni: formale; non-formale e informale, con un’attenzione particolare alle
scienze e la tecnologia (STEAM Education). Diverse le discussioni sulle attività di advocacy e
di pubblica informazione quali strumenti effettivi per denunciare e contrastare le
disuguaglianze sociali e le terribili violazioni dei diritti umani e per rendere i governi
responsabili davanti a simili situazioni. Particolare attenzione è stata data alla garanzia
dell’accesso all’educazione per i gruppi emarginati e vulnerabili, come le popolazioni
indigene. Trasversali a tutti i dibattiti le tematiche della parità di genere, dei cambiamenti
climatici e della tutela dell’ambiente.
L’evento si è concluso con l’adozione di un Piano d’Azione (scarica il PDFdisponibile in lingua
inglese) per le ONG e il mondo accademico a sostegno dell’educazione alla cittadinanza
globale per la realizzazione degli Obiettivi per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile.
Il Piano d’Azione contiene un insieme di misure concrete per l’implementazione dell’Agenda
2030. Con l’adozione del documento si vuole affermare la crucialità dell’educazione alla
cittadinanza globale per affrontare le sfide globali del nostro tempo. Il Piano promuove
l’educazione intesa come strumento per promuovere lo sviluppo integrale della persona
“emotivamente, eticamente, intellettualmente, fisicamente, socialmente e spiritualmente”.
Un’educazione capace di promuovere la comprensione reciproca di “ruoli, diritti e
responsabilità per il bene comune, il servizio all’umanità e l’avanzamento di una cultura di
pace, non violenza, libertà, giustizia ed eguaglianza”. Al centro del documento anche il
concetto dell’inclusione universale che si esprime chiaramente nella volontà di non
menzionare nel testo nessun gruppo o identità particolare per assicurare “una piena
inclusione ed eguale trattamento per tuttele persone – specialmente quelle in situazioni di
vulnerabilità e marginalizzazione”. Si passa poi a definire il concetto di cittadinanza globale
che deve promuovere i concetti di “tradizione” e innovazione” in modo che si possano
preservare le unicità di ogni cultura e allo stesso tempo promuovere l’universalità dei diritti
umani e della cittadinanza globale.
Infine il Piano d’Azione richiama fortemente gli Stati Membri delle Nazioni unite a “dare la
priorità all’educazione nelle politiche e nella pratica”. Con grande gioia VIDES e IIMA hanno
constatato un forte coinvolgimento dei giovani sia nell’organizzazione che nella produzione
dei documenti finali della conferenza. Come riconoscimento del loro ruolo cruciale nelle
decisioni che condizionano i processi educativi, per la prima volta dalla storia della
Conferenza è stata redatta una Dichiarazione dei Giovani (Youth Declaration). VIDES e IIMA si
congratulano con il DPI per aver scelto il tema dell’educazione alla cittadinanza globale
perché credono sia un concreto passo in avanti nel cammino della pace.
