CONTENTS BURSARY AND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMMES ..................... ….3 Financial Aid ………………………..3 Bursaries ………………………..3 Scholarships ………………………..3 Progress reports and results required by external donors and scholarship/bursary granting agencies …………….………….4 UNDERGRADUATE AWARDS ……………………….5 AWARDS OFFERED BY OUTSIDE ORGANISATION ……………………….10 The University has limited funds for assisting students to finance their university studies. We are therefore grateful to those donors who give money to the University for this purpose and to those who provide their own financial aid programmes. The University has made every effort to ensure the accuracy of the information in its handbooks. However, we reserve the right at any time, if circumstances dictate, to (i) make alterations or changes to any of the published details of the opportunities on offer; or (ii) add to or withdraw any of the opportunities on offer. Our students are given every assurance that changes to opportunities will only be made under compelling circumstances and students will be fully informed as soon as possible.
BURSARY AND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMMES NSFAS AND UCT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE As of 1 August 2016, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) opened its student-centred application model. First-time applications for financial aid, as well as funding renewal for those students who are already recipients of NSFAS funding, will be handled centrally via NSFAS. Although applicants may have applied to multiple institutions for admission to study, only one financial aid application directly to NSFAS will be required. UCT is part of this new student-centred application model and all students and learners who need financial assistance should apply to NSFAS via the latter’s on-line application system www.nsfas.org.za. We do not require a separate application to determine eligibility for funding from UCT as we will receive directly from NSFAS the information we require in order to determine your eligibility for UCT’s GAP funding programme. BURSARIES This handbook provides applicants and students with information on sponsors that are offering bursaries and or loan assistance. These must be applied for as indicated. Students should regularly consult Faculty notice boards, the Careers Services and the Student Financial Aid website for information on any sponsors who may be offering bursaries. Depending on when these become available, they may not necessarily be advertised in this booklet.
