FEBRUARY 2021 UNIVERSITY GRADUATE CHOOSES NZTC TO FULFILL ECE DREAM With a teaching qualification from NZTC, Chinese student Qimeng Zhang has the opportunity to become a fully qualified educator. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Auckland, Chinese student Qimeng Zhang chose to enrol in the Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education) with New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) to pursue an interest in ECE. “Growing up as an only child, it was always my wish to have younger siblings to spend time with. I was inspired to study ECE so I could share my love and passion for kids through teaching, which I think is a highly regarded profession in society.” NZTC has a high reputation amongst the early childhood sector and is a popular choice for international students. FEBRUARY 2021 SUMMER SERIES – COROMANDEL PENINSULA Throughout the summer months, we are taking a closer look at some of New Zealand’s top holiday spots for our international students to explore. This month we are looking at the Coromandel Peninsula which offers some of the most beautiful natural attractions in the country. At a glance Located on the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island, the Coromandel Peninsula is a top tourist destination - particularly during summer. There are endless options for fun and relaxation, with an abundance of unspoiled beaches, green forestry walks and exciting water activities. Photo credit – Richard Maher Cathedral Cove A beach accessible only on foot or by boat or kayak, Cathedral Cove in Hahei is the place to visit for crystal clear waters and powdery white sand – not to mention its iconic photo- worthy rock archway. Fans of the popular film franchise The Chronicles of Narnia will be interested to know that a scene from the second film was shot at this stunning location. Photo credit – Richard Maher Karangahake Gorge Nestled between the Coromandel and Kaimai ranges at the southern end of the Coromandel Peninsula, the Karangahake Gorge is made up of the winding Ohinemuri River framed by lush native bush. Rich in history, the area was a popular mining spot in the late 1800s, and now features numerous walk and cycle tracks. Just a 10 minute drive from Hahei, Hot Water Beach is perfect for a relaxing soak while enjoying the surrounding scenic landscape.
