Enrollment numbers for start of 2021-2022 school year
At the start of the school year, the K-12 student enrollment is 394 students with 191 in the elementary and 203 in the secondary.
In comparison, there were 404 students at the end of the 2020-21 school year and 407 at the start of the 2020-21 school year.
Part of the drop in enrollment is the result of a large senior class that graduated in the spring of 2021. The enrollment numbers
indicate that the school district is on very solid ground with a steady enrollment for the future of the district. Enrollment for each
grade level is: PK-27, K-24, 1st-24, 2nd-29, 3rd-22, 4th-34, 5th-31, 6th-30, 7th-32, 8th-25, 9th-37, 10th-45, 11th-29, 12th-34.

COVID-19 Update
Tri County Public Schools and the Public Health Solutions will host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Monday, September 27th at
10:00 AM for anyone 12 (twelve) years and older. The follow up vaccination will be Monday, October 27th when the flu vaccina-
tions are provided. For anyone under the age of 18, parents must sign the consent form for those students to receive the vaccina-
tion. The clinic is open to anyone who would like to receive the vaccination so please share the information with others who
might be interested. Public Health Solutions will need a count of the number of vaccinations they will need to have on hand so
the registration form is due back to school by the end of the day, Friday, September 17th. If you have any questions, please feel
free to contact the district office. Vaccine Consent Form, Vaccine Information and V-Safe App. (all forms are attached)

Tri County Public Schools is still following the Return to Learn plan that was developed during the summer and sent to parents in
the August newsletter. The only change is the salad bar is not available for students. The district will continue to monitor the
positive cases for students and staff members to determine the best plan for student safety and student learning. The current
plan will be adjusted to meet the needs of the district based on the infection rate and the ability to keep everyone safe.

From the Desk of the Secondary Principal…..Ryan Clark

We have had a great start to the school year! Academically, students and teachers are hitting full steam. Our activities are
busy with their beginning of the year festivities, and our athletes and coaches are geared up for their first competitions.

Part of being able to tailor appropriate instruction to all of our students is knowing where each student is, academically, at
the start of the year. To accomplish this, we assess our students using MAP Growth. During the week of August 30th, the
secondary will operate using a block schedule. Students will attend their “even” periods on Monday and Wednesday, and
their “odd” periods on Tuesday and Thursday. Class period minutes will double in time. This will provide a testing environ-
ment that will help students perform at the best of their abilities.

On September 7th, the secondary teachers will spend the day studying the assessment data from the MAP Growth assess-
ments. We will compile information about each student and each class. This information will help our teachers deliver solid
and appropriate instruction and it will help the teachers better understand each of their students and classes.

We will also have a little fun during the week. On Wednesday at 3:00, the students in the secondary will get a chance to
challenge their classmates and teachers in various yard game activities (spike ball, can jam, cornhole) while enjoying ice
cream on the south lawn. On Thursday, we will have a fall sports pep rally, in preparations for the first home competitions
 of the year.

TC GRIT Award

On Thursday, September 2nd, the secondary will announce the recipients of the first TC GRIT award at the fall pep rally. The
monthly award will be given to one high school and one junior high student, nominated by their teachers and peers, who
demonstrate growth in perseverance, determination, and stick-to-itiveness. We feel like the ability to persevere in the face
of setbacks, and to continue working towards goals is a life skill that can tremendously benefit our students. We hope that
by bringing attention and highlighting the students who continually work at getting better, continually strive to reach their
goals, and persevere through setbacks, more and more students will develop a grit mentality .

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent teacher conferences for the secondary are scheduled for Thursday, September 30th from 3:30-8:30 pm in the HS Gym.
Please look for more information about conferences in the secondary newsletter (via email) in a couple of weeks.

It was AWESOME a few weeks ago seeing all the kids enter the doors to school after the summer months. Kids came in with smil-
ing faces and were eager to start learning! I can already tell, 2021-2022 is going to be a great one!

To start the first day of school, students went directly to their classrooms to meet their new teachers. A lot of the day was spent
with fun activities to set a positive tone for the year! I did interrupt their fun by having an all school assembly. At the assembly
we talked about rules and procedures for the year. Of course, I had to sprinkle in a little bit of my annual magic tricks to keep the
kids excited. I have to say this was the best magic show ever as I finally perfected how to make a kid disappear!!!

A big thanks to all of you that attended the elementary open house on August 26th. It was a great night to meet parents and give
you all the opportunity to interact with your child’s teacher and classroom. The only bad part of the night was filling myself with
pizza. I think I ate enough for a whole week! :) Remember parents if you ever have an issue or question, never hesitate to con-
tact your teacher by phone or email. Strong teacher and parent communication is key to your child’s success!

I encourage all of you to join our local PTO (Parent Teacher Organization). The PTO meets monthly to discuss ways to help the
students of Tri County Elementary. If you would like to join, please contact Janet Gerritse the PTO president for 2021-2022.

Don’t forget to come cheer on the Trojan football team on the evening of Friday, September 3rd! Our local TEAMMATES chapter
will have their annual fundraiser dinner….pulled pork. Please come on down to Trojan Field and support the Tri County Team-
mates chapter! As always, we are also looking for mentors to meet with kids throughout the year. If you are interested in being a
mentor, please contact Dave Rosenbaum or myself.

All students grades 2-6 have completed their first round of MAP testing in the subjects of math, reading and language arts. Results
of the testing will be shared with all parents at parent teacher conferences on September 30th. We hope you all can attend confer-
ences!

We have three new staff members this year. First, Mrs. Hailey Ortiz is teaching 5/6th grade math. Hailey is married with one child
and lives in Lincoln. Wendy Sullivan was hired as an elementary para educator. Wendy has four children and they all attend Tri
County. Shayna Sowards has moved from a para educator to be the elementary administrative assistant. Shayna is married and also
has four children that attend Tri County.

Tri County enrollment is a few students lower than the start of the 2020-2021 school year. Below are the current numbers per grade

HAS THE PFIZER-BIONTECH COVID-19 VACCINE BEEN USED BEFORE?
The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine is an unapproved vaccine. In clinical trials,
approximately 23,000 individuals 12 years of age and older have received at least
1 dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE PFIZER-BIONTECH COVID-19 VACCINE?
In an ongoing clinical trial, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine has been shown to
prevent COVID-19 following 2 doses given 3 weeks apart. The duration of protection
against COVID-19 is currently unknown.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF THE PFIZER-BIONTECH COVID-19 VACCINE?
There is a remote chance that the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine could cause a
severe allergic reaction. A severe allergic reaction would usually occur within a few
minutes to one hour after getting a dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine. For
this reason, your vaccination provider may ask you to stay at the place where you
received your vaccine for monitoring after vaccination. Signs of a severe allergic
reaction can include:
    • Difficulty breathing
    • Swelling of your face and throat
    • A fast heartbeat
    • A bad rash all over your body
    • Dizziness and weakness

Myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) and pericarditis (inflammation of the lining
outside the heart) have occurred in some people who have received the Pfizer-BioNTech
COVID-19 Vaccine. In most of these people, symptoms began within a few days following
receipt of the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine. The chance of having
this occur is very low. You should seek medical attention right away if you have any of the
following symptoms after receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine:
     • Chest pain
     • Shortness of breath
     • Feelings of having a fast-beating, fluttering, or pounding heart.

Side effects that have been reported with the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine
include:
    • severe allergic reactions
    • non-severe allergic reactions such as rash, itching, hives, or swelling of the face
    • myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle)
    • pericarditis (inflammation of the lining outside the heart)
    • injection site pain
    • tiredness
    • headache
    • muscle pain
    • chills
    • joint pain
    • fever
    • injection site swelling

                                          3 Revised: 25 June 2021
• injection site redness
   • nausea
   • feeling unwell
   • swollen lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy)
   • diarrhea
   • vomiting
   • arm pain

These may not be all the possible side effects of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19
Vaccine. Serious and unexpected side effects may occur. Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19
Vaccine is still being studied in clinical trials.

date of receiving the vaccine. To learn more about this program, visit
www.hrsa.gov/cicp/ or call 1-855-266-2427.

WHAT IS AN EMERGENCY USE AUTHORIZATION (EUA)?
The United States FDA has made the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine available
under an emergency access mechanism called an EUA. The EUA is supported by a
Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) declaration that circumstances exist to
justify the emergency use of drugs and biological products during the COVID-19
pandemic.

The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine has not undergone the same type of review as
an FDA-approved or cleared product. FDA may issue an EUA when certain criteria are
met, which includes that there are no adequate, approved, available alternatives. In
addition, the FDA decision is based on the totality of scientific evidence available
showing that the product may be effective to prevent COVID-19 during the COVID-19
pandemic and that the known and potential benefits of the product outweigh the known
and potential risks of the product. All of these criteria must be met to allow for the
product to be used in the treatment of patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The EUA for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine is in effect for the duration of the
COVID-19 EUA declaration justifying emergency use of these products, unless
terminated or revoked (after which the products may no longer be used).
