Step Into Nature #2 Lake Quinault M Saturday, October 9, 2021 Join us for our second Step Into Nature outing to beautiful Lake Quinault in the Olympic Nation- al Forest. We will start our trips with a stop to see the World’s Largest Sitka Spruce. This is just a short walk from the main road but well worth the effort, and a wonderful chance to stretch your legs before lunch in the historic Lake Quinault Lodge. In the fall of 1937, President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited Lake Quinault Lodge during a fact-finding trip and enjoyed lunch in the later- named Roosevelt Dining Room. Nine months later, Roosevelt signed a bill creating Olympic National Park. Today the im- pressive dining room remains largely as it was back in the day, and boasts excellent Northwest cuisine paired with stunning views. After lunch you have a choice: linger in the lodge with a beverage of your choice or perhaps a short stroll along the lake or follow your guide through a 2 mile loop tour on the Kestner Homestead Trail and Maple Glade loop. This trail is mostly flat and easy walking, but the enormous maples dripping with moss will most certainly take your breath away. $89 Member/$99 General Public Includes transportation, meal and snacks. Departs LSC 9:00/OSC 9:30 am. Returns apprx. 5:30 pm. 5

Puget Sound Revels builds and cel- ebrates community through tradi- tional (and not so traditional) song, dance, and story drawn from many cultures. Although the time, place, and story arc changed annually, the theme is always the winter solstice theme of light and dark. For millennia, communities have tracked the sun to know when to plant and harvest and to know when to expect the dwindling of life and light. The need to track this cycle bound communities together and produced countless cultural traditions, many of which reassure that the solstice marks the turning point toward renewal and regenera- tion...the "promise that lies in the sleeping land." After the matinee, we’ll enjoy an early supper together before heading home. $105 Members/$115 General Public Includes transportation, lunch and admission. Departs OSC 11:00 LSC 11:30 am.
