EVENTS From the great transfor- mation to the eco-social transition 4th EMES-Polanyi International Seminar The challenge of the early XXI century is to formulate a new conception of transformation paving the way towards a society based on solidarity and epistemological justice. Bringing different fields of research the purpose of the 4th EMES-Polanyi International Seminar is to break through disciplinary boundaries and consider multiple epistemo- logical perspectives on how economies are and can be (re-)embedded in their societal and political context, and to critically deliberate societal uncertainties that cast a shadow over democracies as well as emerging practices aimed at strengthening them. From March 19 to March 21 | 9am - 6pm | FMSH - EHESS The signs of luxury Luxury in the age of globalisation Chair, Marc Abélès This day-long seminar provides a comparative reflection on the systems of signs that characterize luxury, and on the strategies deployed by actors within the sector. The speakers will focus on contemporary signs of luxury, emphasizing the importance given to the affirmation of singularity that exalts the category of exclusiveness. The new language of luxury, in which ethics is a central theme, will also provide an angle for analysis. Thursday 01/16 | 10am - 5pm | FMSH A3-35 5

EVENTS Ecological and social accounting Ecology, work, Employment Chair, D. Méda and F. Jany-Catrice While national accounting has been the subject of much debate, corporate accounting has also come under scrutiny in recent times. Alternative accounting methods have been proposed, including by accounting experts, and some have been discussed within the FAIR network as part of this event. Such methods aim to account more accurately for the environment and for work, by valuating and/or amortising them. During this study day, proposals for the overhaul of corporate accounting will be explored. Wednesday 02/12 | 10am - 5pm | FMSH Forum “Migration crisis”? What crisis? II Exil and migrations Chair, Alexis Nuselovici (NOUSS) This workshop aims at examining the notion of “crisis” within the field of migration through an interdisciplinary dialogue. Through a common etymology, “crisis” and “criticism” share a same semantical value, that of an opportunity offered to new understandings and changes. In contrast, the current discursive use of “crisis” seems to stress historical ineluctability and political inflexibility. How to explain this reversal? This study day extends the reflection of a first day which took place in October 2019. It is organized by A. Nuselovici (NOUSS) and N. Sahraoui. Wednesday 18/03 | 9:30am - 6pm | FMSH BS1-28 9
