                                                Ammu
Indian Cooking to Nourish the Soul
                                                Asma Khan

                                                A heart-warming cookbook of
                                                comforting aromatic Indian flavours,
from Asma Khan of Darjeeling Express
                                                and Netflix fame

Food from home, cooked with heart. This book is a collection of recipes from Asma’s
childhood, her Indian family kitchen. A celebration of where she comes from, of
home-cooking, and the inextricable link between food and love. It is a chance for her
to honour her ammu (mother), and to share with you the recipes that made her and
root her to home. This book is a joyful celebration of memories of food, and its power
to heal, restore and comfort.

Asma includes her ammu's comfort food from her childhood, the recipes with which
she taught Asma to cook, celebratory food (for births, deaths, weddings and all those
special occasions in-between), slow-cooked recipes passed through the generations
of her family and, finally, her own recipes, now that Asma herself is an ammu - all
quick and easy, mixing the ingredients she has at hand in London with her favourite
spices to offer immediate comfort.

Asma Khan (@asmakhanlondon) is the chef and owner of Darjeeling Express in
London. She moved to Cambridge from Calcutta in 1991 where she studied Law
before completing a PhD in British Constitutional Law at King's College London. Now
residing in London with her husband and two boys, she comes from a royal
background – Rajput on her father’s side and Bengali on her mother’s.

Cooking was always her passion and she began her food career in 2012 as a supper
club in her home. In 2015, she opened a pop-up in a Soho pub to much acclaim, and
Darjeeling Express the restaurant opened its doors in June 2017. A year later, her
debut cookbook Asma’s Indian Kitchen was published by Pavilion, a Gourmand
World Cookbook Awards Winner. Khan is the first British chef to feature in Netflix's
Emmy nominated Chef's Table.

recipes to make cooking for yourself and others
easy, from the co-author of bestselling Ottolenghi
                                FLAVOUR.

This is everyday eating with special occasion energy.
Mezcla means mix, mixture or blend, and can be used to
describe music, art...and food! Ixta Belfrage is loved for
her inventive flavours that bring together the food
traditions and flavours she has absorbed from all over
the world. This is her first solo cookbook.

These flavoursome and fuss-free dishes are a treat for the tastebuds. Recipes will
include the easy everyday, such as fried cheese crumpets with chilli, honey and
sesame, roasted oyster mushroom skewers with crushed chickpeas, as well as
dishes to spend more time over, such as whole roast chicken with crispy curry
leaves. Mezcla will be perfect for fans of A Modern Way to Eat by Anna Jones, NYT
bestselling Nothing Fancy by Alison Roman and How to Eat by Nigella Lawson.

Ixta Belfrage (@ixta.belfrage) spent her youth dipping her fingers into mixing bowls
across Italy, Mexico and Brazil and so became an expert without a title. She began
her official culinary career at Ottolenghi's NOPI restaurant, before moving to the Test
Kitchen, where she worked for Yotam Ottolenghi for five years, contributing to his
columns in the Guardian and The New York Times. Ixta was Yotam's co-author on
the bestselling OTTOLENGHI Flavour. She lives in London, where she makes
regular guest chef appearances in some of the city's top restaurants.

                                   James Read

A playful and accessible guide to fermenting at
                                   home.

James Read, founder of Kim Kong Kimchi and is on a
mission to bring bacteria into our kitchens. Here, he
takes the ten greatest ‘living’ ferments – fermented
foods that are neither cooked nor pasteurised – and
puts them under the microscope. The result is Fizz.

From the fiery funk of kimchi to the velvet tang of kefir
(via kombucha and kvass), Read demonstrates how the microbial process works,
then shares his recipes for recreating these delights in your own kitchen without
specialist equipment. Alongside his recipes, Read investigates the extraordinary
cultural and historic backgrounds of fermented foods, exploring how the microbes
that bring them to life have developed alongside our culinary evolution.

Featuring over fifty recipes and packed to the brim with essential how-to information,
Fizz will help you create, understand and appreciate fermentation’s bubbling magic.

James Read (@kimkongkimchi) is the founder of Kim Kong Kimchi, a company that
has made tens of thousands of jars of kimchi distributed through hundreds of stores
across Europe. Kim Kong Kimchi has given James the opportunity to build his own
fermentarium, write an array of fizz-related spreadsheets and address audiences

Relaxed, flexible home cooking from Ottolenghi and
                                  his superteam.

Whether they're conjuring up new recipes, or cooking
for themselves at home, the Ottolenghi Test Kitchen
team do what we all do: they raid their kitchens. But
then, they magic whatever they find into approachable,
comforting creations with an 'Ottolenghi' twist.

For the first time, the Test Kitchen team welcome us
into their creative space. These dishes pack all the
punch and edge we expect from Ottolenghi, but offer
more flexibility to make them our own, using what we've
got to hand. There's the ultimate guide to creamy dreamy hummus, a one-pan route
to confit tandoori chickpeas and a tomato salad that rules them all.

This book is all about feeding ourselves and our families with less stress and less
fuss, but with all the 'wow' of an Ottolenghi meal. It's a notebook to scribble on and
add to, to take its ethos and absolutely make it your own. This is how to cook, the
OTK way.

Yotam's co-creators and colleagues. There's Noor Murad, crowned the queen of
Middle Eastern feasts; Ixta Belfrage, co-author of Ottolenghi FLAVOUR, Verena

When we eat, we're not only feeding ourselves, we are
also feeding millions of microbes that live in our gut.
When they are healthy, they keep the rest of our body
healthy, but most of us are not feeding them enough
plant-based wholefoods to keep them working at their best.

From the go-to gut-health expert and Sunday Times bestselling author, Dr Megan
Rossi, this book shows us the incredible health benefits of a plant-based diet, and
shares over 80 simple, crowd-pleasing recipes that everyone will enjoy.

We need to eat 30+ plant-based foods a week to keep our gut happy so it's all about
adding more foods into our diets, rather than cutting them out. Megan makes this
easy with her mouth-watering dishes, including loaded nachos, raspberry and white
chocolate muffins, a hearty lasagne and even raspberry and lemon ricotta baked
cheesecake. With meal plans to suit any lifestyle and plenty of nifty tips and tricks, it
has never been easier to eat more plants.

                                   An A-Z of Pasta
                                   Stories, Shapes, Sauces, Recipes
                                   Rachel Roddy

The definitive guide to pasta, by the award-
winning food writer and Guardian columnist
                                   Rachel Roddy.

This is the story of pasta. In it, Guardian columnist and
award-winning food writer Rachel Roddy condenses
everything she has learned about Italy's favourite food
                                   in a practical, easy-to-use and mouth-watering
collection of 100 essential pasta and pasta sauce
                                   recipes.

Along with the recipes are short essays that weave together the history, culture and
everyday life of pasta shapes from the tip to the toe of Italy. There is pasta made
with water, pasta made with egg; shapes made by hand and those rolled by a
machine; the long and the short; the rolled and the stretched; the twisted and the
stuffed; the fresh and the dried. An A-Z of Pasta tells you how to match pasta shapes
with sauces, and how to serve them. The recipes range from the familiar - pesto,
ragù and carbonara - to the unfamiliar (but delicious). This is the definitive guide to
pasta from one of the best food writers of our time.

guiding principles from The Modern House.

Over the last fifteen years, The Modern House estate
agency co-founder Matt Gibberd has handled the sale of
thousands of properties, from flats in Brutalist blocks to
family homes to listed architectural masterpieces. In
exploring all of these wonderfully singular properties,
Matt noticed the same principles emerging time and time
again. Five timeless rules for living, capable of
transforming any home into a happier and more
successful one: Space, Light, Materials, Nature and Curation.

Navigating the reader through each rule with breath-taking photography and the
inspirational stories of his clients, in A Modern Way to Live, Matt demonstrates to
home-hunter and homeowner alike how each rule can be applied in ways both large
and small, but ultimately transformative.

Matt Gibberd began his career as a writer on design and architecture, working for
five years as a Senior Editor at The World of Interiors, before co-founding The
Modern House, a pioneering design-led estate agency based in London.

Accompanying a major BBC series from the team
behind Planet Earth II and presented by David
Attenborough, a fascinating exploration of the hidden
life of plants by Sunday Times bestselling author Simon
                           Barnes.

Plants live secret, unseen lives – hidden in their magical
world and on their timescale. From the richest jungles to the
harshest deserts, from the snowiest alpine forest to the
remotest steaming swamp, Green Planet travels from one
great habitat to the next, showing us that plants are as
aggressive, competitive and dramatic as the animals on our
planet.

You will discover agents of death, who ruthlessly engulf their host plant, but also
those that form deep and complex relationships with other species, such as the
desert cacti who use nectar-loving bats to pollinate. Although plants are undoubtedly
the stars of the show, a fascinating new light will be shed on the animals that interact
with them.

Using the latest technologies and showcasing over two decades of new discoveries,
Green Planet reveals the strange and wonderful life of plants like never before – a
life full of remarkable behaviour, emotional stories and surprising heroes.

                                    You See the World
                                    James Cheshire and Oliver Uberti

An unprecedented portrait of the hidden patterns
in human society - visualised through the world
                                    of data.

Humans create data with nearly everything we do.
This world of information is invisible, but it shapes
society in profound ways. In Atlas of the Invisible,
                                    award-winning geographer-designer team James
Cheshire and Oliver Uberti redefine what an atlas
                                    can be.

Transforming enormous data sets into rich maps and cutting-edge vizualisations,
they uncover truths about our past, reflect who we are today, and highlight what we
face in the years ahead. With their joyfully inquisitive approach, Cheshire and Uberti
explore happiness and anxiety levels around the globe; they trace the undersea
cables and cell towers that connect us; they examine hidden scars of geopolitics;
and illustrate how a warming planet affects everything from hurricanes to the hajj.
Years in the making, Atlas of the Invisible invites readers to marvel at the promise
and peril of data, and to revel in the secrets and contours of a newly visible world.

James Cheshire and Oliver Uberti's complementary skills enable them to produce
graphics and book pages that few others can match. As a professor at University
College London, Cheshire applies his cartographic and programming skills to the
staggering amount of data that scientists are now collecting. In 2017, he was
awarded the Royal Geographical Society's Cuthbert Peek Award. Uberti has more
than a decade of experience visualizing and writing about wildlife research - from
2003 to 2012, he worked in the design department of National Geographic, most
recently as Senior Design Editor.

too.

                                                    A Sketchbook Guide
                                                    Matthew Rice

A guide to the wonders of Venice,
conveyed by means of an artist's
                                                    sketchbook.

Matthew Rice is a longtime observer
and illustrator of cities, buildings and all
those who inhabit them, with an
uncanny ability to express the energy of a place through a few lines of ink and
splashes of paint. For years, Venice has been a source of deep creative inspiration
for him; and now, in Venice: A Sketchbook Guide, he captures the highlights of this
most beguiling of Italian cities.

Unsurprisingly, given his abiding passion for architecture, Matthew provides a wealth
of information about the 'stones' of Venice, including an illustrated guide to the main
building styles of the city - Byzantine, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Modern -
and exemplars of its balconies, bridges and campaniles. Further sections explore the
city's sestieri - its six residential quarters - as well as its history, paintings, festivals,
wildlife and, not least, its cicchetti and aperitivi.

Following the same landscape format as Matthew's real-life sketchbooks, Venice: A
Sketchbook Guide will combine enchanting watercolour illustrations with an
informed, personal and witty text, and promises to delight all visitors to Venice,
armchair or actual.

Matthew Rice is the author of Rice's Architectural Primer, which has been warmly
embraced by architectural students and enthusiasts alike. A celebrated illustrator, he
is perhaps best known for his longstanding collaboration with the potter Emma
Bridgewater. He lives and works in a medieval gatehouse near Oxford.

                                              Nests
                                              Susan Ogilvy

A unique celebration of the architectural
ingenuity of birds, by an acclaimed
                                              illustrator.

Susan Ogilvy started painting bird nests
almost by accident. One day, while tidying
up her garden, she found a chaffinch nest -
a strange, sodden lump on the grass under
a fir tree. She carried it inside and over the
next few hours, as the water drained out of
it, the sodden lump blossomed into a mossy
jewel. She was amazed, and dropped
everything to make a painting of the nest at exact life size.

This was the start of an obsession; Ogilvy has since painted more than fifty bird
nests from life, each time marvelling at its ingenious construction. Every species of
bird has its own vernacular, but sources its materials - most commonly twigs, roots,
grasses, reeds, leaves, moss, lichen, hair, feathers and cobwebs, less usually,
mattress stuffing and string - according to local availability.

This wondrous book is all the more special for its rarity. Few modern books exist
specifically on the subject of bird nests; the most recent among the author's
reference works was published in 1932. Exquisitely designed and packaged, Nests
will be an essential addition to the libraries of all nature lovers.

Susan Ogilvy's work has been shown at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, the
Smithsonian Institute, Washington, and the Kew Garden Gallery, London, amongst
other places; it is included in several public and private collections, including Dr
Shirley Sherwood's world-renowned collection of contemporary botanical paintings.
She was awarded an RHS Gold Medal in 1997, and lives in rural Somerset.

GRAPHIC NOVELS
Graphic Novels

                                The Legend of Luther Arkwright
                                Bryan Talbot

A new book in Bryan Talbot's award-winning science
fiction graphic novels series, starring the legendary
                                character Luther Arkwright.

The Legend of Luther Arkwright is the third graphic novel
in the award-winning science fiction series. Set 50 years
in the future, this continues the story of our hero Luther
Arkwright whose unique talent allows him to move
between the parallel universes by force of will. He is
aided as always by Rose Wylde, a telepath whose many
incarnations communicate with each other across the
parallels. Both are agents of the parallel universe Zero-
Zero which is essential to maintaining world peace.

The first volume in the series, The Adventures of Luther Arkwright, a strong
candidate for the very first British graphic novel, was serialised in various comics and
magazines from 1978 and first published in book form in 1982. The second volume,
Heart of Empire, set 23 years later, was serialised from 1999 and collected in 2001.
As with the first two volumes, currently published together in a hardback integral
edition by Dark Horse Books, The Legend of Luther Arkwright is a stand-alone story.

The English language editions of the first two books have been in continuous print
since first being published, with editions in at least ten countries. In 2005 The
Adventures of Luther Arkwright was produced as a three-hour audio drama, starring
David Tennant as Arkwright. In addition to this, a Luther Arkwright role-playing game
was published in 2015.

Bryan Talbot was born in 1952. He has worked on underground comics, science
fiction and superhero stories such as Judge Dredd and Batman: Legends of the Dark
Knight. His books include Alice in Sunderland, Dotter of Her Father’s Eyes (with
Mary Talbot), the first graphic novel to win the Costa biography award, and the
Grandville series.
