Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan TRAINING “MEDIA AND TOURISM: NEW APPROACHES FOR DEVELOPMENT” PROGRAMME 23–24 June 2021 Nukus, Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan
INTRODUCTION The UNESCO Tashkent Office in close cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Republic of Uzbekistan will organize training on “Media and Tourism: New Approaches for Development” from 23 to 24 June 2021 in Nukus, Karakalpakstan. The training is organized within the Joint Programme “Addressing the urgent human insecurities in the Aral Sea region through promoting sustainable rural development”. The training is aimed at enhancing business skills and creating income-generating opportunities in a sustainable way in the field of travel through marketing, tourism awareness, including social media and its channels, etc. The training is very practical and will deal with ways to enhance the tourism offer of Karakalpakstan and to get the message of the benefits of increasing and improving tourism out to a world-wide audience. During the training, the facilitators, as practical people, will talk about marketing when there is no marketing budget, accessing social media and actively pursuing new markets such as the younger independent traveller as well as improving and benefiting from existing relationships with the international tourism industry. The facilitators will be looking for new markets and new products. Training’s sessions will not consist of endless lectures but will be two way with questions from facilitators so they may understand the participant’s views, ideas and concerns while giving them the benefit of their extensive experience. After the initial sessions, the participants will be breaking into groups to create and follow up these sessions in a very practical way in order to leave practical benefits to the tourism industry leading to an increase in tourism numbers and yield to assist in the development of the whole region. As follow-up, the training will be continued by the online incubator for creation of media content on tourism in Karakalpakstan, its potential, including cultural and natural heritage (30 June – 6 August 2021). The UNDP-UNESCO Joint Programme “Addressing the urgent human insecurities in the Aral Sea region through promoting sustainable rural development” is funded by UN Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region in Uzbekistan (MPHSTF). The aim of the project is to address the environmental, social and economic insecurities in the most vulnerable communities of the Aral Sea region through comprehensive solutions in addressing the environmental issues promoting access to basic services, improving the living standards and developing the sustainable tourism in Karakalpakstan. Moreover, the project’s objective is to enhance the social wellbeing of rural population, including women and youth, through expanding income generation opportunities and promoting inclusive sustainable growth of the tourism sector in Karakalpakstan through supporting and strengthening the development of community-based and eco-tourism in the Aral Sea region.
