Dear Friends,
The science of obesity is rapidly evolving with bariatric surgery emerging as one of the
most effective therapy. With increasing prevalence of obesity and diabetes in the Indian
society, the demand of bariatric surgeons is set to grow manifold. In this scenario, it is
imperative that more minimal access surgeons step in to meet the increasing demand.
While there is no dearth of enthusiasm and skills amongst our colleagues, there is a need
for structured courses to train a general surgeon to become a safe bariatric surgeon. So,
in OSSICON 2019, to be held in the City of Joy, Kolkata, we wish to do just that.
We wish to create a conference with emphasis on surgical techniques that can be mas-
tered by any minimal access surgeon. We wish to train nutritionists, anesthetists and
endoscopists who will be useful to the surgeon to create a team and a bariatric center of
their own. And that’s why we are naming the theme of this conference as “KISS” - Keep
it Simple and Safe”. So, if you want to learn the tips and tricks of how to make bariatric
surgery safe and simple in your hands, here is how.
