Approaching an employer Consider booking a CV check with a CN Advisor through Careers Connect
Top tips on speculative approach Speculative applications: Be flexible Careers fairs - get a business card or name (connect with them on Linked In after!) Fairs/spec aps: Don’t just take no for answer – if they cant help, can they recommend else? Try and get a name or their advice! Develop your professional network – is all about who you know! (Linked In Uob alumni/mentoring schemes) Spec apps: chase up – be politely pushy chasing for progress!
Top tips continued… Speculative apps – Do your research - know that company and their work - spotted a gap for a project, how can you help them? Use similar opportunities as guides – seen a grad role or something your not eligible for or recent expired opportunity – there will be a names contact, cheekily ask if they can offer YOU something! Be open to different areas/departments Spec aps/formal schemes – get your application/CV checked by Careers Network Don’t let finance be a barrier (for UK and overseas) – bursaries Be positive and enthusiastic/thankful for that persons time
