It is a symposium for transportation managers, planners, engineers, and elected officials involved with urban areas of less than 250,000 people and rural areas. Participants are from regional planning agencies, metropolitan planning organizations, area devel- opment agencies, as well as federal, state, and local transportation agencies, and transportation consul- tants. Our theme continues to be Tools of the Trade. You will have the opportunity to learn about econom- ical and practical techniques for transportation planning in small- and medium-sized communities. Moderator: Bill Frawley, TTI Developing a long-range transportation plan is both an art and a science. Although there are rules and decades of previous plans to draw upon, regional needs, goals and resources are constantly changing and evolving. Long-range transportation planning is not static as this workshop will show. Based off the game play of the ever-popular TV game show, Family Feud, four teams selected from the audience will square off and test their knowledge of the intricacies of LRTPs. The production team will engage the players and audience in a lively, spirited discussion as the content of the Feud is revealed. [Bill] Worley Dr. William S. [Bill] Worley has been living with Kansas City History and Midwestern History for over 40 years. His involvement grew out of doctoral studies at the University of Kansas that commenced in 1976 and resulted in an M.A. in History [1979] and a Ph.D. in History [1986]. His doctoral topic was the role of J. C. Nichols in developing Kansas City from 1905 to his death in 1950. Among his published work is J. C. Nichols and the Shaping of Kansas City, 1990; Legacy of the Santa Fe Trail with artist Gil Rumsey, 1996; The Plaza: First and Always, 1997; and Kansas City: Rise of a Regional Metropolis, 2002. His involvement with Chautauqua characters dates from a 1993 Call for Scholars by the Kansas Humanities Council. He has since performed on the Chautauqua stages of the Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Colorado New Hampshire and Northern Mariana Islands Humanities Councils. He performed in the pilot production [as Tom Pendergast] for the Kansas City Public Library’s Regional Emmy-award winning Public Television series “Meet the Past.” He has since performed as Walt Disney, James Naismith and J. C. Nichols in this series as well. His long-time involvement in the Oklahoma Chautauqua involved topics as diverse as Route 66, the Oklahoma Centennial, and American Entertainment. Worley lives with his wife of 50 years in a 100+ year-old house in midtown Kansas City, Missouri, and is Professor of History at the Blue River campus of the Metropolitan Community Colleges of Kansas City. 16th National Tools of the Trade Conference #TOTT2018 9
