Cancellation Members who apply for a place at Conference and then have to withdraw will have 75% of the fee refunded up to and including 4 weeks prior and 50% up to and including 2 weeks prior to the date. Thereafter, IAPS regrets that NO REFUND can be made. Members are advised to take out insurance to cover the cost of cancellation. We recommend that you book your seminar places early to avoid disappointment. You can register for your preferred seminar sessions as part of your online application for the Annual Conference. Please note that entrance to each seminar session will be restricted to those delegates who have registered in advance. Session A: The challenge of testing and examinations Kate Allen, Chief Administrator, ISEB To look at the challenges associated with testing and examinations in the modern preparatory school; for schools, for teachers and for their pupils. Session B (Seminar Session 1): Legal update: equality and Brexit! Simon Henthorn, Head of Education and Liz Timmins, Senior Associate, Doyle Clayton Solicitors This session will focus on the topical employment law issues affecting independent schools. It will cover equality issues impacting both on staff and pupils, such as sexual harassment and disability discrimination. There will also be an immigration law update on Brexit and how this will affect your staff and pupils. Or Inspections (Seminar Session 2): Linda Donowho, Reporting Inspector The seminar will focus mainly on Quality Inspections. It will highlight ways of evidencing outcomes in achievement and personal development and will discuss the use of data during the inspection with regards to attainment and progress. It will also focus on the ‘protected characteristics’ in relation to equality. Session C: Fitting your oxygen mask: staff and pupil wellbeing in school Chris Jeffery, Headmaster, Bootham Senior School This seminar will explore the importance of developing a wellbeing culture in our schools and especially why addressing staff wellbeing (that often seems increasingly fragile) is so crucial to its success. We will explore changes in staff workload, the challenge of ‘Millennials’ in the work place, the 5 (or is it 8?) pillars of good mental health, and some examples of packages available to schools to help. #IAPSConf18 IAPS Annual Conference 2018 Tomorrow’s World; Global Citizens Seminar Sessions Session D: Inspiring the global citizens and transformational leaders of tomorrow’s world Justin Blake, Head of Social Responsibility and SMSC, Windlesham House This session will focus on a life-transforming education and inspiring initiatives that develop the very best in young people. We will explore a values-driven, purpose-led school culture that develops active citizens, future leaders and champions of change. We can enable every generation to experience life-changing learning that prepares young people to thrive and live their best lives in service of the common good. Together we can influence tomorrow’s world. Session E: Creating safer organisations: practical implications of research about abuse in professional settings Marcus Erooga, Independent Safeguarding Consultant Incorporating a brief overview of current events, particularly the Savile aftermath, this presentation uses Marcus’ research with people convicted of sexual offences against children in the context of employment or volunteering. Incorporating messages from the literature, it outlines key findings about their behaviour and organisational issues related to their recruitment, employment and work setting. Messages from these offenders on how risk can be minimised in workplace settings will be addressed, as will key measures that organisations and co- workers can take. Session F: Working in partnership: from small steps to grand conclusions Tom Arbuthnott, Director of Outreach and Partnership, Eton College Partnership with the state sector does not have to be about sponsoring an academy. There are lots of smaller scale models out there, from music to sport, from chess to debating, from science to languages.
