Military seizes power in Myanmar, announces 1year emergency The Myanmar Military Tatmadaw has announced a one year state of emergency in the country. The Vice President Myint Swe has been made the acting President and all powers have been transferred to the Commander in Chief Min Aung Hlaing. The leaders have been detained for committing fraud in the national elections held on Nov 8. The development follows early morning detention of the State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, President Win Myint and other senior leaders from the ruling party National League for Democracy (NLD) by the military. The detention comes hours before the first meeting of the newly elected parliament was to begin. Aung San Suu Kyi took over as the head of the civilian government in 2015 after a long period of military rule in Myanmar. Indian Air Force will focus on ₹1.3 lakh crore deal for 114 fighter jets The Indian Air Force is now looking to focus on the multirole fighter aircraft project under which it is planning to acquire 114 combat aircraft expected to cost over ₹1.3 lakh crore.
The Air Force had been undertaking one fighter aircraft project at a time and now its 83 LCA Mark 1A fighters have been cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Security. The ₹50,000 crore deal is set to be signed in Bengaluru during Aero India. The IAF has already issued the Request for Information for the tender and would be soon moving a proposal for getting the Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) before the Defence Ministry for the multi-billion dollar project which would enable it to acquire 4.5 plus generation aircraft in large numbers. The Request for Information (RFI) has been responded to by several global players including fighter jet manufacturers from the US, France, Russia and Sweden. While the Americans are offering from the F-15 Strike Eagle, F-18 Super Hornet and an F-16 variant by the name of F-21, the Russians are likely to offer the MiG-35 and a Sukhoi fighter. Sweden's Saab is looking to pitch in with its Gripen fighter aircraft which it says is far more advanced than the one which was offered in 2007 to the Indian Air Force. On an average, the Coast Guard saves one precious life every second day at sea. From a modest beginning with just 7 surface platforms in 1978, ICG has grown into a formidable force with 156 ships and 62 aircraft in its inventory and is likely to achieve targeted force levels of 200 surface platforms and 80 aircraft by 2025. Smriti Irani inaugurates 8th India International Silk Fair Textiles Minister Smriti Irani inaugurated the 8th India International Silk Fair on Virtual Portal.
The fair is considered to be India’s biggest silk fair, being held under one roof on Indian Silk Export Promotion Council’s virtual platform. The five days event is being held virtually due to COVID-19 pandemic. India has a long history of silk production and is the 2nd largest producer of Silk. India is the only country in the world which produces all the four major varieties of silk - Mulberry, Eri, Tassar, and Muga. VP M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurates National Tribal Festival ‘Aadi Mahotsav’ in National Capital Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated Aadi Mahotsav, a National Tribal Festival at Dilli Haat in INA in the National Capital. It will continue till 15th of this month. The Aadi Mahotsav - A Celebration of the Spirit of Tribal Culture, Crafts, Cuisine and Commerce is a successful annual initiative that was commenced in 2017. The festival was an attempt to familiarise the people with the rich and diverse craft, culture of the tribal communities across the country, in one place. Around one thousand tribal artisans, artists and chefs from more than 20 States of the country will participate and provide a glimpse of their rich traditional culture. Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation (TRIFED), as the nodal agency under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, has been working to improve the income and livelihoods of the tribal people, while preserving their way of life and traditions. Around 89 lakh children administered polio drops on National Immunisation Day Around 89 lakh children were given polio drops under National Polio Immunisation drive across the country. Union Health Ministry said, Vaccination were conducted at seven lakh booths. India has been free of polio for a decade, with the last case of wild poliovirus reported on 13th January 2011.
Polio is a crippling and potentially fatal viral infectious disease. There is no cure, but can be prevented through immunization. India received polio-free certification by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2014. Asus to develop local Esports talent with ROG Academy in India Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG), the brand behind the popular ROG gaming phone series, has announced the launch of the Asus ROG Academy in India. The competitive Esports training initiative will be India’s first virtual academy programme for upcoming gamers who are looking to be professionals. Through the initiative, Asus ROG will identify PC gamers through a screening process, and the selected individuals will be provided the necessary equipment, coaching, and even a stipend to prepare them for competitive Esport tournaments on a national, as well as international level. As part of the initial quarterly phase, Asus ROG Academy will be looking at Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO). Varanasi receives second cruise boat under PRASAD scheme Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, received the second cruise boat under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) scheme of the Central Government. This two-tier cruise boat will run in waters of Ganga river and show the tourists the spectacular view of 84 ghats of Kashi. The cruise named UP tourism ferry reached through waterways from Goa to Varanasi. The cruise has seating capacity of hundred people on both ground and top floors and it will run from Rajghat to Assi Ghat. Under the Prasad scheme of the Central Government more than 10 crore rupees have been spent on cruise service, ticket counter and other amenities to promote the tourism at ghats of Kashi.
BCCI cancels Ranji Trophy 2020-21 for first time The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided not to conduct the Ranji Trophy in 2020-21. This will be the first time in 87 years since its inception in 1934-35, that India’s premier first-class cricket national championship will not be held in 2020-21 domestic season. Instead on Ranji Trophy, BCCI has decided to conduct the Vijay Hazare Trophy 50-over tournament and Senior Women’s One Day tournament after the completion of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament. Tamil Nadu beat Baroda by 7 wickets to lift second Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy In Cricket, Tamil Nadu lifted the coveted Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy after defeating Baroda by seven wickets in the final at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad. This was Tamil Nadu’s second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) triumph, after winning their first title way back in 2006-07. Baroda, who had won the title twice in the past (in 2011-12 and 2013-14), ended runners-up this time. It was a clinical campaign for Tamil Nadu who remained unbeaten throughout the league.
