New KCI Flying Your Way By Landon Pribyl You are ecstatic about your wonderful vacation that you are about to embark on. You have a flight to New York and then all the way to London. As you pull up to the airport, it astounds you. The incredible complex is sleek and modern, but welcoming. The hope of a new airport is in sight for the wonderful community of Kansas City. The future is very near for air travel in KC. Our current airport here in Kansas City was designed in 1960 and opened in 1972, making it one of the most outdated airports in the country. Our community has needed an airport renovation for a while, but now it may be a reality. Proposed in February of 2018, the airport, estimated to cost approximately $1.6 billion, is on track to be up and running in 2022, making it the most expensive project in the history of KC. The design of the new airport will be comprised of one large terminal, as opposed to the 3 terminals of the current, outdated KCI. While getting something new is always good, we must weigh the cost versus the benefits, and in Kansas City’s case, the benefits greatly outweigh than the daunting cost of the airport. Building a new airport will affect Kansas City in many great ways. With many large companies that have major facilities here in town leaving in the coming years, such as Harley Davidson, Procter and Gamble, and maybe even Sprint, KC’s economy will need a major boost. The new airport is expected to create 17,300 new jobs, according to Frank Lenk, the economist who provides annual outlooks
for the city’s government. These added jobs will give our economy a boost, subsequently making people happier and wealthier. There are many problems with our current airport, such as its 3-terminal horseshoe design, which doesn’t allow for traditional security checkpoints, causing major crowding when people are trying to get on a flight. These inadequate security checkpoints could also jeopardize the safety of our airport. There are many other problems with our current airport design, such as no restaurants or shops past security, not allowing people to be able to eat while waiting for their flight. The airport is also extremely cramped, as the area near the gates is only 36 feet wide, causing major congestion and backup when a flight disembarks. The hope of a new airport has become a reality, and many problems are going to be solved in the coming years. Our economy is expected to skyrocket once the new KCI is constructed, making Kansas City an even better place to live. Even though the new airport comes with a whopping price tag, it will be worth it in the long run for our wonderful community. Sources:“Kansas City’s Airport: A Dud Or A Gem, Depending On Who You Ask” by Jeremy Hobson on October 26, 2017 “Terminal Development” by Kansas City Aviation Department on November 7th, 2017 Are AirPods the Best Type of Headphones? By: Megan Ullrich 7th AirPods are the new trend taking headphones to a new level. But are AirPods really the best. Are they worth all the hype?
There's bluetooth beats, Apple headphones, headphones with cords, small earphones, and even big earphones. But can all those headphones top AirPods? Can people get cost effective AirPods? Is there a cheaper, better type of headphones? AirPods aren't the best headphones. AirPods aren't the best headphones because Airpods have many problems. According to Paula P, “When I first got these they were amazing, but the sound on one gradually became lower and lower to where I could barely hear music anymore. I went to the apple store and got replacements, once again they were great and gradually became bad.” Paula's problem was the headphones sound becoming harder to hear even after checking setting and volume. She also says later that she had only had the AirPods for 1 year. AirPods aren't a good long term headphone. AirPods don’t seem reasonable to get because there are more cost effective headphones. According to www.bestproducts.com “Lite completely wireless earbuds by Anker are your best option if you don't like to ever deal with wires...the earbuds deliver up to 3.5 hours of playback between charges. The bundled carrying case has a built-in battery pack, too, which can deliver another nine hours of wireless tunes.” This quote shows that these headphones are equally as good as AirPods. The headphones are better because they’re $79.99, where as AirPods are $159. The Sound Core Liberty headphone are the better choice instead of getting AirPods.
Although many people believe AirPods give the most comfort, they really don't.. According to www.bestproducts.com “ In-depth reviews by CNET, Digital Trends, and PC Magazine praised the BackBeat GO 600 headphones for offering good sound and comfortable fit at an attractive price point.” The headphones are rated most comfortable and are only $54.73. Many AirPods have been uncomfortable compared to BackBeat GO 600 headphones. AirPods aren’t the best headphones because they’re bad after a year or two. Also there are better options for headphones like BackBeat GO 600 headphones and The Sound Core Liberty headphones. Both headphones are cheaper as well. In conclusion, AirPods are inefficient and expensive compared to other headphones. Luckily that’s not the case this year! A brand new football league started over parent teacher conferences called The Alliance of American Football League or the AAF. The AAF is built on letting the
football season live a little bit longer, and giving players who could not get a chance in the NFL a second chance. But what is the appeal into this new league, and will fans give consider this new league as the spring of football? A lot of smaller, and former NFL television markets now get the chance to have a professional football team of their own market. The cities of AAF teams have a history of football though. The teams are the Arizona Hotshots, Atlanta Legends, Birmingham Iron, Memphis Express, Orlando Apollos, Salt Lake Stallions, San Antonio Commanders, and the San Diego Fleet. The small markets brought in a respectable rating of 2.1 on the first two games on Saturday, which is good for any new tv show let alone sporting event. On Sunday the ratings heavily declined pulling in a 0.4 rating during the final two games of the league's inaugural weekend. The ratings are expected to soar higher and higher over the season. The new league has given a second chance to players that didn't strive in the NFL. The appeal of this new league is to give these players a second shot. The scouts of NFL scout these players and see if they potentially want to sign that player to a contract for their team. That is why the players are apart of this new league because they feel like they have a shot. Former Kansas City Chiefs players Akeem Hunt, Earl Okine, Rashod Ross, and Keith Reaser, are all fighting for a chance to play football on the biggest stage one more time. After it is all said and done the AAF is a great way to give former NFL and college football players a shot at playing on the national stage one final time. Plus, the ratings show that the AAF is here to stay because fans love football. That is a little bit of new information about this new football league. Sources

By: Matthew Miller Having zits can be frustrating, popping them can be disgusting. But do you find pleasure in popping your own pimples? What about popping other people's pimples? Pimple popping has become a global sensation. People have even made a living off of popping and curing peoples pimple problems. But what makes popping pimples so satisfying? There's all types of pimples, such as whiteheads, blackheads, cysts, etc.. But, how did pimple popping become so popular? The definition of satisfying is “giving fulfillment or the pleasure associated with this.” There are many different satisfying things like crunching leaves, peeling plastic off of a new phone, or pressure washing. Pimple popping is one of the satisfying things people watch. Many like watching the goo squeeze out of the red and inflamed areas. These videos have been made for years and they will keep being made as long as people watch them. A recently reality show has been made specifically for this subject. Sandra Lee is the doctor that the show follows and is also a professional when it comes to this topic. She has treated hundreds of people over the years with severe cases of acne of many kinds. Bella Smith, an eighth grader that attends Mission Trail calls herself a popoholic. A popoholic is someone that is obsessed with pimple
popping videos. I asked her a couple of questions and why she is so driven towards these videos. She said, “They are satisfying, they calm me, and they help me go to sleep.” My follow up question was, “How long have you been watching these types of videos?” She responded with, “I've been watching these videos for a little over two years now. I watch them on youtube and I've seen her TV show many times.” My final question was, “Do you like popping your own pimples or even your friends pimples?” Bella said, “I don't like popping my own pimples because I feel like I will mess up my skin or make it worse. I don't like when my skin is irritated either and I feel as if that's the main cause of irritation.” Tyler Rosenbohm, another eighth grader that attends Mission Trail also has a couple of things to say about these so called “satisfying” videos. “I think they are disgusting, watching the puss inside the pimple come out is gross.” he said. I asked, “Have you ever voluntarily watched a pimple popping video?” His response was, “Never, I've only seen pimple popping videos when my friend was watching them in class.” In conclusion, many people like the odd sensation of pimple popping and other despise it. As long as people keep watching these videos, they will be around for many years to come. Maybe, something else will come along and overshadow pimple popping just as much as it
overshadows everything else. Pimple popping can be satisfying or disgusting, it all depends on who’s watching. If Money Weren’t An Issue By: Tyler Rosenbohm If money was not an issue for schools, there could be more chances for students to get involved in school clubs. Clubs could be very important for student interaction, which leads to happier students with more friends also, to develop people skills. People skills will let you interact with others effectively and efficiently. A few examples of people skills are; communication, attitude and work ethic. All of these can help out later in your life. Clubs are very beneficial and especially fun! Clubs boost academic performance, and every study based on the impact of clubs say that academic grades, study habits, and school based behavior improve with clubs. Although, clubs only help if students participate in that chosen club. Clubs also offer a positive environment in which kids can grow while their parents are working unavailable to get home while their kids get home. Clubs can also keep kids active, and assist them in overcoming the stress involved within school. I asked Bella Smith an 8th grader at Mission Trail a series of questions about her opinion on clubs. My first question was, “What do you think about clubs?” she replied with, “I think clubs are fun.” My follow up question was, “Do you think the price is the problem with more interesting clubs?” She stated, “Yeah, I think the school board and district don't have
enough money for interesting clubs in their budget.” The final question I asked was, “If there wasn’t a price limit what club would you sign up for?” Her answer was, “I think ceramics would be a fun club to sign up for.” Next I asked Landon Pribyl a 7th grader at Mission Trail a couple questions about his opinion on clubs. My first question was, “Are you involved in clubs?” He said, “Yes, I participate in Rest and Relaxation Club. My second question was, “Do you enjoy your time in clubs, If so what do you enjoy the most?” He said, “Yes, I like my club because I get to relax.” My third and final question was, “If you could choose any club to be a part of what would it be and why?” He answered with “Go to a foreign country club because he thinks it would be interesting to go to a foreign country with your school friends.” This shows that clubs are very beneficial and help students everywhere. It also shows, that clubs would be more interesting if money wasn’t a problem. Concluding, with a wider selection that appeals to more students, so more students can get involved would be very beneficial. What’s the Scoop on the New Olathe Schools? By Addison Smith Summit Trail Summit Trail opened last year, in 2018. It is the districts 10th middle school and it was built with the same floor plan as Mission Trail. The first year, over 500 students were planned to enroll there. Many students did enroll, as they thought, and the first year has gone well. Differences As much as Summit looks like Mission Trail, there are a few differences. First, it has learning stairs. It is currently the only district middle school with the learning stairs. All the Summit Trail leaders went to all the three elementary schools, as well as Mission Trail, and Prairie Trail. All the students going to Summit, were asked what colors they would want to have their school colors be. Then they would choose the mascot, which became “ The Summit Trail Sabercats.” with the colors Silver and Black. Interesting Facts They also have some different looks to there school. When I was there, they had some interesting pods. Instead of there being a classroom in the middle, there is a nice place to study, with flexible chairs. Many students from Mission Trail went to Summit. I have multiple friends who transferred over. For Summit, instead of having teams names like Expedition, Tacoma, and Enclave,
they do colors. There are two teams for each grade, all called the Black team and Silver team. Dance and Cheer Teams They had all the girls going to Summit try out for Cheerleading last year. My friend from 6th grade, tried out for Cheerleading and made it. Now, she is on her first year of Cheerleading. Here at Mission Trail, we have 22 people on our dance team, while Summit has 7 girls on their “Summit Trail Dazzlers” dance team. West Olathe West High School opened in the fall of 2017. It is the 5th high school in the district to be designed for a futuristic learning environment for the students. With 375,000 square feet, their 3 story school focuses and technology, open learning spaces, and collaboration along students. A centrally open learning commons, provides a place for student gathering, and much more. The school is designed with 4 wings. In each wing is where students will attend classes. Olathe West hosts two 21st century programs. They are developed by the Olathe School District, to give students the ability to develop many skills and interests. The two programs Olathe West hosts are Public Safety, and Green Tech. Sports Teams and Activities
Olathe West has many sports teams, and activities. All of their sports teams include, Baseball, Basketball for boys, Basketball for girls, Bowling, Cross Country, Football, Golf for boys, Golf for girls, Gymnastics, Soccer for boys, Soccer for girls, Softball, Swimming and Diving, Tennis, Track and Field, Volleyball, and Wrestling. The Activities are Band, Cheer, Dance team, and Orchestra. Some interesting activities I found were Owl Maker Club, Horror Movie club, and Hispanic Leadership club. Olathe West by the numbers Olathe West is a unique school in many ways! There were 1320 students expected to enroll for classes in 2018-19. There are exactly 789 seats in the auditorium, including retractable seating. There is 200 square feet rooftop greenhouse, and 60 planting boxes on the growing wall next to the library. There are four mini-libraries overlooking the main first-floor library. Also a one-ninth mile track around the top of the gymnasium. Interesting Facts about Olathe West I found some very interesting facts about Olathe West. There newspaper is called, “ The Ow Owl Post”, where they write about events such as Plays, Basketball Games, and much more. They have one of the last 10 pieces of The World Trade Center, displayed at the entrance to the public safety academy. https://www.olatheschools.org/Page/2394 https://www.olatheschools.org/west
Top 5 Most Popular Video Games On The Switch By: Drake Alexander Morgan Looking for a new game, how about on the Nintendo Switch? The Switch is the newest gaming device that is released in March 3, 2017. The Switch is a gaming console that you can switch out the controllers and can be seen on the T.V. The Switch is growing in games, with over 80 games to choose from, which game should you buy? #1. Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, an interactive free world game. Free world game means that you can do whatever you please, within reason. This game allows you to make decisions and solve difficult puzzles. Also a study shows that if a player just goes for Gannon (end boss) then it will take them around 6 hours. Mainly popular among adults this game with 108.91 million copies sold. #2, Super Mario Odyssey, a fun puzzle game. In this Odyssey game you can possess any monster you come across, like a T-Rex! Also you use the creatures you possess to solve puzzles. You travel around the globe and beyond to save the beloved Princess Peach from the King of Koopas, Bowser. Also in this game you get a cool hat that wants to save it’s sister
from Bowser. This game is a puzzle game that has sold a little over 10 million copies. #3 Splatoon 2, a game of conquering and paint. In this game you conquer maps with paint, and you can choose your paint color. It is different from Splatoon 1, because there is more story line, and because it is new there are more updates so there is a less chance of getting bored. A fun game of color, with around 3 million copies sold. #4, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a game of speed and winning. Mario Kart 8 deluxe has more races than Mario Kart 8 and better graphics. Brobusky (The publisher of Thetoptens) says this as “hands down, the best racing game.” Mario Kart 8 deluxe is a fun multiplayer game with more that 13.7 million copies sold and 4.9 stars. #5 , Super Smash Bros Ultimate, a game of smashing. This fun game of beating up each other and getting more in game items. The game starts with 8 characters, Kirby, Link, Pikachu, Fox, Mario, Samus, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi. It is an adventure to get the other 66 characters, 74 in total. Also that’s not all, you can collect spirits, to make you stronger and win. There are 1,297 spirits in the game that can be unlocked by adventure or spirit board. The adventure portion of Super Smash Bros Ultimate is about a creature/spirit that has consumed the world in light and you have to save the world from his (or her) clutches. The spirit board is a hard method of get spirits but you have more choices of spirits to choose from and you get game money, that you then spend on in game items. You can also create your own little Mii fighters. Troy Pitts says “Super Smash Bros is not about competition, it’s about fun.” A fun game with more than 3 million copies sold World wide, the fastest selling Nintendo game, including a 4 star review. Based on evidence, puzzle games are the most popular. So if you're into strategy games then I would consider Legend of Zelda, or Super Mario. if you want a battle game then Super Smash Bros Ultimate, or Splatoon 2. This decision is entirely up to you so, you be you.

Some people use this as an opportunity to improve relationships with friends or their crushes. The school dance will be the best event this year at Mission Trail and here's why. The theme for the dance is Dancing Through the Decades. The dance will be decorated with all kinds of decor from 1910-2020. That means that some of the people that are going, may take the theme into account. Some of the activities are snacks, movies, music, candy, drinks, and more. The school dance can also be a fun experience as your growing up. Sometimes, people will just dress up regardless of the theme and dress up in whatever they want that is suitable. In previous years’ people have dressed the way they wanted, not regarding the theme for the dance. Some people I know are taking the dance seriously and wearing actual dress, while others are just finding something from the decades and wearing it. Not to mention most people had on regular clothes.
Not everyone wants to go out and dance at this event. Some people are just not going because they will feel embarrassed if they have to go out and dance. However, a dance is one in a lifetime opportunity and once its gone, it’s gone so don’t miss out on the fun. See you at the dance. Should movie remakes happen? By Will Walker Have you ever seen a great movie then watched the remake and were disappointed? A new movie remake seems to be announced every week. People often get very excited when their favorite movies get remade, but should they? If Hollywood just keeps remaking everything there won't be anything new for movie goers to see. There have been a lot of movie remakes that haven't come close to their predecessor. Recently, Disney has been remaking many of their own classic movies. Some examples are Cinderella, Jungle book, and Beauty and the Beast. According to rotten tomatoes, the
original Jungle Book is very similar to the new remake. But in my honest opinion, I think the remake is slightly better. Disney has remade a lot of movies but, hey can't recreate what was made half a century ago. There have been some great horror movie remakes. Remaking horror movies is great and newer technology making them more realistic, and scarier. A recent horror movie remake IT (2016) is considered a much better improvement compared to the 1990 version. Remaking horror movies is a great way to scare a whole new generation especially if the old version is outdated. Movies have been remade as long as they have been around. Remakes allow movie creators to make a better and more entertaining experience, but if the only thing coming out in theaters are remakes, there's no creativity and a lack of trying new things. I think if the original is 50 years old and dated, a remake is needed but if the original is still good, they don't need a remake. Movies are a very popular form of art and we all want to see good movies and remakes can allow us to enjoy the classics again. Sources: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/
Juul for School is Not Cool! By Taj Riar Almost one-fifth of high school students have seen a Juul being used in school. Juul is an electronic cigarette, it is easy to hide, it looks like a flash drive. Juul comes in a lot of flavors like cool cucumber, mango and more. Pods are cartridges filled with e-liquid. Flavors attracts youth because they think the flavors are super fun and harmless but in reality it's possible to get mild nausea, facial hair growth, hair loss in the scalp, dry tongue and lung cancer. There is more nicotine in a Juul pod than in a pack of cigarettes. One Juul pod can take 200 puffs before needing to get a new one. People under the age of 18 are not allowed to purchase tobacco products including Juuls. Students are getting Juuls through stores, online sites and older friends. Some may say “How are students getting Juuls from stores not old enough but some managers don't ask for an ID and there are a lot of people in high school that look older that what they are.” I asked a couple of students their thoughts on vaping. I asked Landon Pribyl and he said, “It is bad and overrated because people think it's cool but is getting cancer cool? Dumb.” I also asked Wyatt Mcdonald he said, “It's not safe and kids do it to look cool.” Another person I asked was Tyler Rosenbohm and he something super interesting “The chemical eats lungs until lungs say no then they eat your body until your entire body is a pile of bad lungs.” Overall vaping is for older people that want to risk their lives. If you are a student and see a vape being used tell an adult you trust or if you are addicted call (888)-459-5511 addiction hotline. Don't juul and stay cool. https://addictionresource.com/addiction-and-rehab-otlines/ https://truthinitiative.org/news/6-important-facts- about- https://timedotcom.files.wordpress.com/2018/03/juul-vape.jpeg
