FILTERS SAM HAYES, FILTER ENGINEER AT FERNOX EXPLAINS MORE ABOUT COMPLIANCE WITH BS 7593:2019 AND LOOKS AT THE FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN SELECTING A FILTER... Seal the deal with Fernox M aking sure that an in-line system filter is used to protect a central heating system has become best practice for professional installers – and this has now been reinforced by BS 7593:2019. Under BS 7593:2019, it is important to make sure that a system filter is permanently installed. This is a crucial step in order to prevent the build-up of harmful sludge and debris within the central heating system and to protect the boiler’s vital components. A key point of difference in maintaining the efficiency of a filter is whether the filter has been designed as a sealed unit, or with a removable lid. All lidded filters require an ‘O’ ring to sit between the lid and the main body of the filter to maintain a tight seal to keep the unit watertight. Replacement ‘O’ rings over the lifetime of the system are not only an ongoing cost but they also increase the time taken to service the filter, whereas a sealed unit, like the TF1 Sigma or TF1 Omega Filter, does not require any replacement parts or opening of the filter to service. The filter is simply cleaned via a drain valve in less than two minutes. The TF1 Sigma Filter is the first sealed composite polymer filter on the market and it broadens further installer choice by offering slip socket with valves versions to fit 22mm and 28mm TF1 Sigma Filter. pipework.
