THIS DITJIES ISSUE No 37 DECEMBER – & THAT DATJIES DECEMBER 2018 a month of goodwill by Jan Lubbe D ecember is a month of goodwill. A time to usually slow down and reflect on the year past. I believe we should think how grateful we should be for the privilege to have a house/flat/room and to be taken care of during our senior years. To enjoy the company of our neighbours and of all residents in Rynpark. To be thankful to the members of our Board and the selfless work they are doing. We thank our Executive Manager, Management staff and all other members of staff for their dedicated work and guidance to us. Let us also show our goodwill and Tel: 011 747 7000 Fax: 011 968 1185 Email: pa@rynpark.co.za Web: www.rynpark.co.za

PARK ACTIVITIES & EVENTS GARDEN CLUB By Sandra Jakobi NEXT MEETING–Christmas Party 8 Dec 18 – 11:00 venue to be announced There will be no meeting in January YOUR GARDEN IN DECEMBER– We have had very little rain and some intense heat, but our gardens are looking lovely and well cared for. In November we had an interesting talk by Margaret Darby on Natural Gardening. She gave us the recipe for her compost mix which you can dig into your garden at the end of July and end of January. Recipe: 8 parts Lucerne (rabbit food in pellets), 1 part lime, 1 part volcanic dust, 1 part bonemeal. TIPS FOR THIS MONTH • Check on climbers and train them onto trellises or neaten up the tendrils and shoots. If they are not full of buds, nip off some of the ends of the shoots to encourage a denser look and to create more flowering points for the next flowering season. • Prune jasmines, banksia roses, spiraeas and other Spring flowering shrubs, climbers etc. after they have flowered. • Prune ivy geraniums after a first flower flush. Keep on feeding regularly to encourage another flower flush. • Hydrangeas brighten up shady areas. Plant colour annuals in between with impatiens, begonias and browali. Hydrangeas love dappled shade, rich loamy soil and a great deal of water. If you want to grow them in pots, place them on the south side of the house for early morning sun and afternoon shade. • A petite and huge blooming beauty is the dwarf inca lily. These plants are magnificent for the garden and suitable to grow in containers as well, as they reach a height of only 30-35 cm. They flower profusely from Spring to Autumn. They can be found in a wide range of bright colours. They can be picked as long lasting cut flowers – just like their taller family members. This stunning row of azaleas were in full bloom in October, in RP6. In Chinese culture, the azalea is known as “thinking of home bush” (sixiang shu), and is immortalized in the poetry of Du Fu. The azalea is also one of the symbols of the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Image submitted by Marie Kruger

Die verpleegster staan nader om te troos en sê-vra , “Waaroor is al die trane, dit klink of julle goed nagelaat gaan word en sal nooit hoef te sukkel nie.” Hulle antwoord soos in ‘n koor, “goed nagelaat !!.
