Dress warmly to enjoy all that Maple Syrup Days offers! Pancake breakfast will be 50% seating capacity. Maple Syrup Days will follow any and all LaGrange County coronavirus- related mandates. As of January 2022, there are none. If you are ill for any reason, or have been with someone who is ill, please stay home and purchase your syrup later. Quilting Classes Spring Quilt Classes: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. February 19: Rough Cut Diamonds This project has a Log Cabin look. It can be done very scrappy or in one or two colors plus a back ground. Note: This pattern has a $10 fee in addition to class fee. March 26: Flower Girl This class is at the South Milford Community Center. This is a good way to use your scraps or make it in one color plus a background. We’ll show you more ways to set the blocks. April 23: Stars Over Ohio A neat project combining the Ohio star block and a combo 4 patch block, making a chain around the stars. Registration is required. Instructions are provided upon registration. To register, call the Park Office, 260-854-2225. Walks Patchwork Trails Nasby Dam Reservoir Walk 300N, east of 500E, Mongo, IN, 46771 Tuesday, April 19: 6:00 p.m. Turn north onto the 1st road east of 500E. Nasby Dam is an old mill site within Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area and harbors many birds and plants. Hopefully we’ll see lots of blooming wildflowers. The walk travels within sight of an osprey nest. This walk is offered by the LaGrange County Public Library, and has a Naturalist guide. For help with directions, contact the Pigeon River FWA Office at 260-367-2164. Trillium Walk Maple Wood Nature Center Saturday, April 23: 10:00 a.m. This walk will hopefully align with the peak show of Large flowered Trilliums. We’ll also admire other spring friends in bloom. This will be a casual stroll and a great chance to learn the names of some common wildflowers. We will also plan to pull invasive Garlic Mustard as we see it along the trail. Walk will last approximately 1 hr. Earth Day Hike Maple Wood Nature Center Friday, April 22: 6:00 p.m. This evening walk is to make up for the canceled January 1 First Day Hike. Spring woodland wildflowers should be a carpet on the forest floor. Hopefully we’ll hear and see spring frogs and Wood Ducks too. Dress warmly! Please RSVP to the Naturalist at 260-854-2225. Monthly at Maple Wood Maple Wood Fiber Guild Second Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. Open to anyone and any kind of fiber art! Knitting, crocheting, spinning, weaving, dyeing, tatting, embroidery, and more! Bring projects to work on, get inspiration from others, or learn a new hobby. Bring your own sack lunch and snacks. Donations for the Parks are appreciated. RSVP to Naturalist at 260-854-2225 *The weavers will not meet in February, but will return in March, weather dependent. Sewing Group Fourth Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. What is a UFO? If you answered an un-finished object...this is the perfect sewing group for you! Open to anyone! Bring your sewing machine. Get help and direction with a project, share ideas with others, and make new friends. Please bring a sack lunch and munchie to share. Please bring a $5.00 donation for LaGrange County Parks. Folk Jams Fourth Sundays, 1:30 - 5:00 p.m. Jams are mostly folk, country, and bluegrass music, with other styles occasionally added. Bring a snack to share if you like. February 12: Pinecone Birdfeeders (seed mix may contain peanuts) March 12: Syrup Season Color & Cut Banner April 9: En Plein Air Painting for Kids - We’ll take our paints outside to the blooming wildflowers and paint what we see (must be accompanied by an adult; paint, paper, and brushes supplied). Great Backyard Bird Count Maple Wood Nature Center Friday, February 18: 8:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 19: 9:00 a.m.- Noon Stop in anytime to help count birds that come to the feeders. It’s a great time to learn to identify regular winter feeder birds. Family Workshop: Build a Bluebird House ParGil Natural Resources Learning Center Saturday, February 19: 9:30-11:30 a.m. Bluebirds in northern Indiana begin scouting out nest sites in February! The LaGrange County Soil and Water Conservation District is offering a bluebird house building workshop. You will learn about these lovely birds and how to be a successful “bluebird landlord.” A $25 fee per family unit includes one pre-cut kit. Extra kits can be purchased at same rate.
